    Lesson: Why is Music Important?


    Step 1. Know your Learner
    General Characteristics:
    Number of students: 20
    Age of Students: 5-6
    Gender: Male and Female
    Cultural or language backgrounds:
    Diverse

    Current Skills:
    What are the students skills and knowledge base about
    the topic?
    They know some songs and melodies, but on a basic level
    As a group how are the learners similar and different?
    They are similar because they are on the same skill levels,
    and they are the same age.
    They are different because they are all different types of
    learners, and some of them have more experience than
    others.

    Learning Styles:
    Visual: 8
    Auditory: 7
    Kinesthetic: 5

    Step 2. Articulate Objectives:


    The 4 Objective Elements:
    The students will be able to recognize musical elements in
    their daily lives and why they are important
    The students will discover the importance of music used day
    to day
    2. Target Performance:
    K.9.1 Identify situations in daily life where music is
    experienced.
    Identify melodies they hear often
    Explain the importance of music in day to day life
    Understand why music is used

    3. Measurement conditions
    Can they sing or hum songs?

    Can they remember melodies?


    Do they understand that music is a universal language?

    4. Criterion of success
    90% recognize and remember songs used in day to day
    activities

    Objective Statement:
    The students will be able to recognize and understand the importance
    of music used in daily life, as a form of communication.

    Step 5: Identify and Select Support Technologies.


    1. What technologies and related materials are needed for
    the lesson?
    Music Player, Computer, Board for writing answers and
    suggestions
    2. Which technologies are required for each part of the
    lesson?
    You Tube or a music player will be used to listen to
    fragments of important melodies

    Step 6. Evaluate and Revise the Design.

    1. How will you know whether the design is effective?


    Because the student will recall melodies and understand why
    they are used in daily life. They will also be able to sing or
    hum them back to the instructor.
    2. What assessment instruments are needed to measure
    effectiveness?
    The instructor will have each child hum a melody and discuss
    what it is meant to tell the listener.
    3. What is the revision process once you have the results
    from your evaluation?
    Review, discuss, Repeat

    Modifications for CLD Students- Will pair CLD students into


    groups with TAG students and general students. Pairing the
    students diversely will allow the TAG students to remain
    interested, and allow the CLD students to study and learn
    from not only the TAG students, but also the general
    education students.
    Modifications for TAG Students- Will arrange students into
    teams with specific leaders, will select the TAG students to
    lead the students to victory in Naming that Tune at the end
    of the lesson.
