Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
BrainPop is a great tool that meets the UDL framework! Under BrainPop Spanish, students can watch the
same video with the same content. Quizzes and activities are also translated. If BrainPop does not offer
translations in the students’ language, they can select CC to get subtitles and stop the video to read them, they
can closely observe the graphics, and they can also print out the transcript and use a translator to find key details.
For gifted students, after they’ve shown mastery in this concept, can create a movie in which they make up their
own examples.

Lesson idea implementation:
The commutative property is key to mastering addition. When students understand this concept, they can
minimize the time they spend memorizing math facts. Additionally, knowing this concept helps them when
adding using the algorithm, during number talks, and is a good introductory lesson to multiplication. While
watching the video, students can take brief notes. While the video is playing, I can stop and re-state key facts
for students who need that additional support. Next, we will discuss the important parts of the video and review
some examples. Finally, students can practice on their desks with EXPO markers. Once I’m sure they’ve
mastered this concept, they can take do the activities on BrainPop and end with the quiz.

Reflective Practice:
Extending this project can be done through creating visual models that represent the concept and displaying
them out in the hall. Also, students can be challenged to utilize this property is situations where this property
would be time efficient. For example, 42+30.
