After creating a chart to visibly represent the differences noted in the article, it becomes apparent that
the two do not necessarily complement each other. The value-based character formation program
focuses on the growth and development of the students, but through the way of the education system
and the skills they learn while in school. In the virtue-based character formation program, there is a
different belief/ approach to the development of the students. The concept which this program focuses
on is recognizing God and his role in the growth of the students and their character development. One
program embraces God, while the other does not include him in its plans and foundation for the
students. As a Catholic Educator, there are challenges that we face in the attempt of instilling virtues
into our students. Virtues are elements of a Catholic individual which teach us about God and how we
work to develop/integrate his teachings into our lives through our qualities and attributes. We need to
demonstrate to students the idea of being a virtuous person and growing through our application of
God’s love to our lives both inside and outside of the classroom. In working with the students and
helping them develop their attributes/ qualities in a way which benefit them and their ability to share
God’s teachings with others, we teach them how to flourish in their environment and teach them skills
necessary for being successful in future relations or career fields.
