adventures after the events of the Trojan War”

Modern Day Turkey. Odysseus'
Journey begins here. Odysseus and
other Achaeans battled here for 10
years, until Odysseus built the Trojan
Horse and helped win the war.
Odysseus does not give a sacrifice to
Poseidon, the god of the waters, which
starts him off on a bad note.

“Ismarus”
Odysseus and his men first landed
at the city of Cicones. They
attacked and sacked the city,
which angered the god Zeus. Zeus
caused another storm that blew
Odysseus even farther off course
and into a realm of monsters,
witches and the dead. God who
intervene of Odysseus’ life
Zeus King of gods and men, who mediates the disputes of the
gods on Mount Olympus. Zeus is occasionally depicted as weighing
men’s fates in his scales. He sometimes helps Odysseus or permits
Athena to do the same.
“Lotus Eaters”
Odysseus and his men arrived on
a mysterious island. He sends
some men to explore, but they
don’t return. Later, he finds out
they ate the lotus plants and
forgot about returning home and
became lazy. Odysseus had to
drag them on the ship and tie
them up to make sure they kept
on moving.
“Island Of Cyclopes”
Odysseus and his men dock on
the island of the cyclopes. The
Cyclopes who lived there was
named Polyphemus and was the
son of Poseidon. Here the
Polyphemus eats some of
Odysseus' men and comes to
blows with Odysseus himself.

“Aeolia”
They stopped at Aeolia, A floating island home
of Aeolus, king of the winds. Aeolus treated
Odysseus hospitably and gave him a bag of
winds. The bag had all of the west winds
bundled up and was not to be opened until they
get back to Ithaca. Odysseus’ men were curious
of what was in the bag and they thought it was
gold that Odysseus was keeping to himself.
Odysseus' men opened it before they reached
Ithaca and made the journey back home even longer and
harder.

“Telepylos”
After the wind storm was over Odysseus’
ships landed on Telepylos, the land of the
Laestrygonians. The Laestrygonians were
cannibals and when three men go onto the
land, the Laestrygonian king ate them all.
Odysseus and the Greeks run for the
ships, but, the Laestrygonians had already
smashed 11 of the ships and began to feed
on some of the men. Odysseus orders the
rest of the men to his ship, and they row
away from Telepylos as fast as possible.
“Aeaea”
Once the men left Telepylos,they
sailed to Aeaea, an island inhabited
by the mystical Circe. On this
island Circe plays a trick on
Odysseus' men by turning them
into pigs and keeping them there
for a year. Hermes help them to
free them from spell of Circe.

souls to Hades, and patron of travelers, merchants, and thieves.
“The Underworld”
Odysseus and his crew sailed to the end of the
world to gain access to the
underworld. Tiresias, the prophet, revealed to
Odysseus the route to Ithaca. Odysseus also
visited with some of his dead comrades from
the Trojan War, including the heroes Achilles
and Ajax. He also meet his mother to guide
him on his way

“Island of Sirens”
Leaving the underworld, the first danger that Odysseus faced was the Sirens.
Sirens were mythical bird-like creatures whose beautiful voices lured men to their
deaths. Their island was littered with the bones of old ships and their crews.
Odysseus had each of his crew members put wax in their ears to block any noise,
but he wanted to hear the song of the Sirens. The crew tied him to the main mast.

“Ogygia”
Odysseus ends up at Ogygia where the goddess
Calypso lives. He stays there for seven years. Athena
eventually steps in and asks Zeus if he could let
Odysseus go. Zeus has Hermes go to Calypso and
tells her that she must allow him to leave and return
home to Ithaca. She tells Odysseus that he can go and
he then sets sail for Ithaca.
“Ithaca”
Oddyseus finally
makes it home. he
realized that there
were many suitors
squatting in his
city trying to
marry his wife
while he was
away. Disguised as
a beggar, Odysseus kills all the suitors while Penelope, his wife,
was proved to be faithful while Odysseus was away. The return
home was a tough and arduous journey for Odysseus but the
poem ends with him happily back in him homeland with his
beautiful wife and family.
