RESPECT ELDERS

1. Spend time with them (and listen intently).

Many seniors get lonely, whether they’re retired and no longer have their work social schedule, or they’re lost their spouse and some friends.
Regardless, they still need a rich social circle for happiness as many can get isolated over time; which can lead to health decline. It’s important to take
time to visit elderly loved ones to not only spend precious time with them and learn from them; but also give them purpose, as relationships are key to
healthy aging. When in the presence of an elder, make sure to listen as the senior’s words come from a place with many decades of experience. The
conversation can be beneficial to both of you.

2. Be polite.

Being polite to an elder is a demonstration of respect. Older Americans grew up during a time when manners and respect were part of everyday
etiquette. If they are talking, listen to them. Don’t interrupt them or address them by their first name, unless given permission. Being respectful may not
only brighten their day, but also yours, as you may learn a thing or two (or just feel good about brightening someone’s day!).

3. Ask for advice.

Sadly, ageism exists, even though elders are some of the most wise people in society. It’s a shame to think that an elder, with a lifetime of experience,
would be overlooked for their advice. Seniors have a lot to contribute to society through their life experiences, so seeking counsel from an elder is time
well spent. You will both appreciate the sentiment.

4. Eat together.

Eating together is one of the greatest social customs for mankind. While nourishing your bodies, you also get to catch up and have fun. Whether you
venture to a favorite restaurant, pack a picnic, or visit your senior loved ones home, try to eat together on a regular basis.

5. Discuss family heritage, history and traditions.

There’s an undeniable strength in family stories. In fact, putting together an oral family history can not only bring family members together and
strengthen the ties between generations, but they can also educate about family genetics, personalities, and more. Family history translates into
stronger family bonds and life successes. In fact, recent studies have shown that children who have more knowledge of their family history also tend to
show greater emotional resilience, facing stress and challenges more effectively as they have a stronger sense of where they come from and who they
are.

A survey conducted by Harris Poll and commissioned by A Place for Mom revealed the following topics were what U.S. adults wanted to know about
their family members, specifically their moms:
•Career highlights (e.g., significant work achievements, favorite job)
•Family history (e.g., genealogy, origins of the family)
•Life advice (e.g., view on aging, words of wisdom to share with children and grandchildren)
•Medical history (e.g. health issues common with family members, life-threatening disease diagnosis)
•Personal history (e.g., childhood memories, dating history)

Almost like a puzzle, heritage is many pieces that form a masterpiece to comprise an individual and their journey. Taking the time to visit aging loved
ones during the holidays to no to not only reconnect, but also gather pieces of their heritage puzzle, can provide important info to pass on for posterity.
After all, information about families is lost in three generations if not written down.

6. Call them.

If you live too far from your elderly loved one to see them on a regular basis, pick up the phone and call them. In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget the
amount of meaning an elder will experience if we take time out of our day to say ‘hello’ and chat. Phone calls are a personal way of saying you care.

7. Tell them how much you appreciate and respect them.

Even if you demonstrate that you respect your elders through your actions, it’s important to actually tell them how much you appreciate and respect
them. Compliments and giving people purpose, especially older Americans, is a very positive message. If there is a senior who has positively impacted
you, make sure to share this with them; it will probably bring a smile to their face.

8. Visit senior living communities.

The world moves at a fast pace and people sometimes forget what’s truly important. Seniors are sometimes forgotten, but are still very much alive. By
visiting senior living communities, you communicate to seniors that you care. You give them purpose and conversation through social interaction. Visiting
a senior living community, whether your loved one lives there or not, is an excellent way to reach out to the older community and show them you care.

9. Volunteer at a senior center.

When we give, we feel better. Pay it forward is a good mantra to follow. It’s the infinitely touching moments in our lives that make it all worthwhile, and
often times these moments are the ones spent volunteering for seniors and giving to those in need. A little goes a long way in a nursing home or senior
living community. Discover how the holidays are an excellent opportunity for volunteering in a senior living community as there are often activities and
opportunities to help with festive gatherings and celebrations.
Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for their flowers,
foliage, or overall appearance; useful plants, such as root vegetables, leaf vegetables, fruits, and herbs, are grown for consumption, for use as dyes, or
for medicinal or cosmetic use. Gardening is considered by many people to be a relaxing activity.

Gardening ranges in scale from fruit orchards, to long boulevard plantings with one or more different types of shrubs, trees, and herbaceous plants, to
residential yards including lawns and foundation plantings, to plants in large or small containers grown inside or outside. Gardening may be very
specialized, with only one type of plant grown, or involve a large number of different plants in mixed plantings. It involves an active participation in the
growing of plants, and tends to be labor-intensive, which differentiates it from farming or forestry.

RADIO

Advantage: cheap
Radio advertising is relatively cheap compared to print or television advertising, says marketing consultant Mike Brassil. Production costs are lower, you
can rent a cabin sound for a couple of hours to make an announcement passable through the radio. You also have to pay less for advertising time to
reach the same number of people as you would with a TV or print ad.

Advantage: the destination

The wide range of offers, radio allows you to target your message to specific groups. Some stations are after the widest possible audience, but many
point to niche markets, such as adolescents, sports fans, news junkies, political conservatives, university students, educated people, or fans of any kind
of music. Advertising a smaller station could cost more individual listener, but have a much greater chance of reaching a demographic target.

Advantage: portability
The consultant of advertising media Gail Jordan says that radio is the only mass medium that people use while driving, clean the house or mow the
lawn. TV advertising requires people to sit in front of their TV, print ads and web require focused attention on the page or screen. But you can listen to
the radio while doing other things.

Disadvantage: lack of permanence

If an ad in a newspaper or magazine catches your eye, you can crop and save, or at least take a picture of it. With the advent of the DVR, including
television advertising you can rewind and watch again if it attracts the viewer’s interest. But radio ads are ephemeral: you hear them, and then it is gone.
If you have lost a phone number or any other details mentioned in the notice, you’ll have to wait to be advertised again.

Disadvantage: half of the advert

If your ad appears immediately after a hit song, good for you. But what if comes amid an expanded block ads – ads that direct listeners to change the
station after a couple of minutes? The stations that advertise 30 or 45 minutes of nonstop music offset by long chains of trade, a barrage of messages
that listeners do not listen to changing a station.

Disadvantage: distraction
This is the other side of portability. People can listen to the radio while driving, and in doing so will not be able to act immediately to listen to
advertisements. Nobody is going to stop on the highway, for example, to enter a number. Meanwhile, those who listen to the radio while working can be
so focused on their tasks than ever logged.

10 RULES TO CHOOSE COUNSELLOR

1.Make sure he or she is BACP or UKRC/UKCP Registered.

2.Make sure there is a complaints’ procedure.
3.Ask for an initial two-way assessment session.
4.If you feel very uncomfortable with a counsellor, trust this instinct.
5.But bear in mind that counselling is very rarely easy.
6.Sort out payment methods at the outset (even Relate charges).
7.Establish a contract – how long will you see this counsellor for?
8.Talk to the counsellor – you can say anything by right.
9.But be thoughtful and quiet if you want.
10.Expect changes not miracles. You cannot buy a new personality; but you can change behaviour and start to use feelings that have been repressed or
asleep. Confronting your personal demons is a serious and potentially hazardous undertaking. It is serious because you often have to work hard by
feeling worse before you can get any better. It is dangerous because anyone can call themselves a therapist including those in cults, churches or
companies pedlling instant salvation. The one thing I have learned from therapy is that if it works it takes time. If it could be done by signing on for a
weekend workshop there wouldn’t be any problems left. But if you follow my ten safety rules, you could gain new confidence and freedom.

STUDY GROUP

Advantages of Study Groups:

A. If you are a procrastinator about studying, you will at least spend time studying with the group. Even then, having a sense of obligation to the group
may motivate you to prepare better on your own.
B. You will learn actively by talking about course information and participating in learning activities.
C. Explaining to someone else is a great way to deepen your own understanding. Tutoring a weaker student reinforces your knowledge.
D. Other students will give you additional ideas about the information and are likely to broaden the range of predicted test questions. Even the answers
to questions will vary somewhat and give you additional thoughts for your own answers.
E. The routine "work" in preparing study materials can be shared. The tasks of making study aids and essay outlines can be divided and shared. For
example, vocabulary "flashcards" can be written out on two sides of standard size paper, 8 to a side. Then the sheets can be duplicated on a copier, one
for each member of the group, and cut apart

Disadvantages of Study Groups:

A. Unless everyone is serious, group study sessions can often turn into social events where very little study occurs.
B. Studying with people who have negative attitudes will work against you. The "None of us understands this and we can't all fail" attitude is common but
deadly.
C. If another group member does not prepare for the group sessions by studying alone, your time may not be effectively used in group meetings. If you
are studying with someone who has not read the material carefully or attended class regularly, you will waste time reviewing basic definitions and facts
that you already know, instead of focusing on more challenging topics.
D. If the group contains students of widely ranging ability, you may not benefit much. If the others are on a level far beyond your own, you'll soon be left
in the dust and be more discouraged than ever. On the other hand, if the other students are too far beneath your level, you may enjoy being the "Brain"
of the bunch but miss the point of the group--the challenge of other minds do spur you on.
E. You may grow to depend upon the group and not feel you can "make it" on your own. Be sure to spend sufficient time studying alone. The group
study time cannot accomplish all your study needs.

What Is Time Management?

“Time management” refers to the way that you organize and plan how long you spend on specific activities.

It may seem counter-intuitive to dedicate precious time to learning about time management, instead of using it to get on with your work, but the benefits
are enormous:
•Greater productivity and efficiency.
•A better professional reputation.
•Less stress.
•Increased opportunities for advancement.
•Greater opportunities to achieve important life and career goals.

Failing to manage your time effectively can have some very undesirable consequences:
•Missed deadlines.
•Inefficient work flow.
•Poor work quality.
•A poor professional reputation and a stalled career.
•Higher stress levels.

Spending a little time learning about time-management techniques will have huge benefits now – and throughout your career.

SPORT DAYS

The Annual Sports day in our school was held last Monday. It was held in the school playground. A pandal was set up for the guests, including the chief
guest to sit in the shade.

The whole school ground was tastefully decorated with flags, bunting and balloons.

Mrs. Sudesh Kurnari, the Hon’ble Minister of Sports, was the chief guest. She arrived at 10 a.m. sharp, the scheduled time. She was received at the gate
by the school reception committee comprising the Principal, the Vice-Principal, the Secretary, Managing Committee, some senior teachers and the
student representatives besides the director, physical education. She was garlanded and snaps were taken.

First started the march past. The sports flame was lighted by Mr Pradeep Kumar, the best athlete of the school. The events started immediately
thereafter.

First started the athletic races. These included a hundred metre race, a two hundred metre race, a five hundred metre race and finally a two thousand
metre race. I took part in the two hundred metre race and won the second prize.

My friend, Sucheta took part in the cycle race and won the first prize. Several students took part in the sack race, hurdle race, discus throw, shot putt,
hammer throw, long jump, etc. The teachers acted as judges.

In the end, the Director Physical Education read out the achievements of the school in the field of sports during the year. Then the Principal and the
President Managing Committee made short speeches.

The chief guest gave away the prizes. In her speeches, she appreciated the achievements of the school in the field of sports during the year.

She wished that all the students should take part in sports.

RIVER IS IMPORTANT

Water

Rivers carry water and nutrients to areas all around the earth. They play a very important part in the water cycle, acting as drainage channels for surface
water. Rivers drain nearly 75% of the earth's land surface.

Habitats

Rivers provide excellent habitat and food for many of the earth's organisms.

Many rare plants and trees grow by rivers. Ducks, voles, otters and beavers make their homes on the river banks. Reeds and other plants like bulrushes
grow along the river banks.

Other animals use the river for food and drink. Birds such as kingfishers eat small fish from the river. In Africa, animals such as antelopes, lions and
elephants go to rivers for water to drink. Other animals such as bears catch fish from rivers.

River deltas have many different species of wildlife. Insects, mammals and birds use the delta for their homes and for food.
Transport

Rivers provide travel routes for exploration, commerce and recreation.

Farming

River valleys and plains provide fertile soils. Farmers in dry regions irrigate their cropland using water carried by irrigation ditches from nearby rivers.

Energy

Rivers are an important energy source. During the early industrial era, mills, shops, and factories were built near fast-flowing rivers where water could be
used to power machines. Today steep rivers are still used to power hydroelectric plants and their water turbines.

Benefits of regular physical activity

If you are regularly physically active, you may:

•reduce your risk of a heart attack
• manage your weight better
• have a lower blood cholesterol level
• lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers
•have lower blood pressure
• have stronger bones, muscles and joints and lower the risk of osteoporosis
• lower your risk of falls
•recover better from period of hospitalisation or bed rest
•feel better – with more energy, a better mood, feel more relaxed and sleep better.

Why education is so important?

Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us
build opinions and have points of view on things in life. People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include
storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research.

Every human being needs oxygen to survive in the world. Education is as important as this because education gives people the knowledge and skills
they require. Education is important to people of all ages and it has no limit. Children require education in order for them to learn how to speak and to
write.
