Introduction to TOEFL Prep. Course

 TOEFL Preparation course is the final stage of preparation for


students who plan to take the TOEFL test. As an
internationally recognized English language test, TOEFL
provides a platform of success for those willing to study in the
most prestigious universities around the world. Since it is a
complicated test, students need to familiarize themselves with
the format of the test as well as acquire language skills.
 The ELCLCs’ TOEFL preparation course is intended to
familiarize students with the format of the test and provide
support regarding language skills required to pass the test with
the desired score.

Eligibility to TOELF Prep. Course

 Students join this class after taking a placement test. The minimum
placement test score is 40 out of 70.

 All students should be students of the university where ELCLCs is


located.

 TOEFL Preparation Course is a 60-hour professional training course.

 This course is taught using text books, practicing software, extra


materials.

Course Syllabus
What makes us different from others?

TOEFL Instructors at ELCLCs are all accredited


instructors. They all have TOEFL-iBT score of 80+.

The materials in this course are all up-to-date, and has


been designed systematically based on a standard course
syllabus. Each session is for one and half hour.

The standard computer lab equipped with internet and


individual computer, projector, and other technological tools
really facilitate learning.

 Students are assessed by practicing the software. Software we use


score students. In addition, we also have a link with organizations
such as KAEC, HEAC and others to introduce students for practice
tests.

 We educate our students theoretically by expressing that the TOEFL


test is a registered trademark of Educational Testing Service (ETS)
and is administered worldwide.

TOEFL Preparation Program
We offer in English Learning Unit (ELU) a 60–hour program which focus on the
development of test-taking skills and strategies through:

 Listening practice.
 Reading and Vocabulary practice.
 Speaking practice
 Structure practice
 Writing practice

What else is our Bonus?
At the end of each TOEFL preparation class, students are
requested to go to KEAC, HECK and other TOEFL test
centers to take a sample test.

After giving the sample test, two of the students who get
the highest scores are nominated to take the actual TOEFL
test. This is a BONUS!!!

Certification

A certificate is granted to those who pass the both levels of


the course.
71% of total points will qualify the student for a certificate.
3 days absence in a row will automatically drop from
certificate list.
Certificates will be presented to students by dignitaries during
a ceremony.
Purpose of TOEFL

TOEFL ensures the ability of non-native speakers of English


to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and
heard in college and university settings.

Who uses the TOEFL test?
 Students who want to study further: For non-native speakers who
hold degrees or diplomas from post-secondary institutions in
English speaking countries.

 Academic institutions: To determine academic readiness and make


admissions decisions for international applicants.

 Individuals who are applying for professional licensure or


certification.

 Many government, licensing and certification agencies, as well as


exchange and scholarship programs also use TOEFL scores as a
decision-making tool.

The test is administered under secure conditions and is
highly reliable; hence, scores can be used confidently to
make high-stakes decisions
The TOEFL test has different versions that are used in
different countries. But all versions are equally valid and
reliable and are developed and administered based on the
stringent ETS Standards for Quality and Fairness.

The TOEFL test is available in two ways:

1. International Testing Program


TOEFL CBT (computer-based or iBT)
TOEFL P&P (paper based)

2. Institutional Testing Program

TOEFL Score

 The raw score for each section is converted by statistical means to a


number on what is called the TOEFL test scale.
 The total paper-based TOEFL test score is reported on a scale that
ranges from 310 to 677.
 The total iBT TOEFL test score is reported on a scale that ranges from
0 - 120.
 What constitutes an acceptable TOEFL score depends entirely on the
requirements of each institution.
 There is no specific passing or failing score.
