Which Has More A Significant Influence On Human Development, Nature or Nurture? Relate This Question To The Movie Bohemian Rhapsody'
Relate
this question to the movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
The movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is a biographical film about the British rock band
Queen. It follows the life of their extraordinary lead singer, Freddie Mercury joining the band in
1970 to their Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985.
Freddie Mercury, the powerhouse singer, adored by millions, was the most charismatic
and influential front man of all time, died on November 24 in 1991. His death, raising awareness
of the AIDS epidemic that was sweeping the world. Mercury, was the animated front man of
Queen, a band that revolutionized the music world with songs like Crazy Little Thing Called
Love, We Will Rock You, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody To Love, and for his mock operatic
masterpiece, Bohemian Rhapsody.
Queen made its spot on the music history with Mercury as their legendary lead singer
who gave his dedication to the crafts until the very end. This is why it came as such a shock
when Mercury revealed to the public, 24 hours before his death, that he was suffering from
complications of AIDS, namely inflamed lungs, a condition known as Bronchopneumonia.
Singer-songwriter, Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in
Zanzibar, Tanzania to Parsi parents from India. He is regarded as one of the greatest singers in
the history of popular music, and was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave
vocal range. He studied piano in boarding school in India and befriended numerous musicians at
London’s Ealing College of Art, including future band mates, drummer Roger Taylor, and
guitarist Brian May. In 1969, Mercury joined a group called Ibex as their lead singer. He played
with a few other bands before joining forces with Taylor and May. They met up with bassist
John Deacon in 1971, and the quartet – which Mercury dubbed Queen – played their first gig
together that June.
Offstage, Mercury was open about his bisexuality, but he kept his relationships private.
He also lived a lavish lifestyle. He loved champagne and liked to collect art, once spending more
than $400,000 on a set of hand-painted china. Always one for a party, Mercury threw himself
elaborate celebrations; for one particular birthday he flew a group of friends to the island of
Ibiza. The occasion was marked by fireworks and flamenco dancing. By 1989, Mercury retreated
from public life. He did not promote or tour for Queen’s next album, Innuendo (1991), and
rumors about possible health problems began to circulate.
From the numerous articles I’ve read and the movie regarding Freddie Mercury’s
biography, I can say that the more significant influence on human development is more from the
environmental experiences or nurture. Freddie, for me, was influenced by his environment
especially concerning his sexuality. While he was exploring what he wanted about his life, he
met a lot of people with different diversities which has made him discover his true self – his
identity. He met different kinds of people which made his beliefs and perspective – on different
matters – contrasting from others. Because of the aforementioned, I can say that nurture has a
more significant influence on human development than nature.
