DEDICATION

I dedicate this Work Immersion Portfolio to my loving parents who remained

supportive despite the ups and downs all throughout my journey both as a person and as

student. I want to thank them for being my crutch every time I feel like I cannot move

forward to reach my goal. I also want to thank them for always pushing me to my limits.

In that way, I know when I need to work harder to have a better outcome of my work.

Encouraging me to learn and to work on my own is also something that I am thankful of to

my parents. Because of that, I know how hard reality is and how it feels every time I

succeed.

I also dedicate this Work Immersion Portfolio to my dear teachers who molded us

into what we are today. Thank you maam and sir for fighting with throughout our journey.

We know that we will not be able to reach where we are today with your guidance and

lessons that you shared with us. We will forever be thankful because of that. Thank you to

our second mothers and fathers in the senior high school.

And most importantly, I dedicate all of this to the Almighty God who gave me all

the strength, intelligence, confidence, and all other abilities so that I can pursue my dream

of becoming a professional teacher. Thankyou Lord for everything especially for giving

me the people who helped me and became my mentor in my journey.

LETTER TO THE READERS

Dear Readers,

I graduated under the General Academic Strand at Trece Martires City Senior High

School. My school trained me in accordance to my needs as a 21st century learner, provided

me the knowledge related to my chosen strand, and prepared me for the college life. All

my learnings from my teachers were applied during the work immersion.

This portfolio is a compilation of my learning experiences in my training in Trece

Martires City Senior High School. Eighty hours (80) was spent for the immersion. I

observed the daily operations of the institution and was given the opportunity to be exposed

in various activities. Also, I was tasked to assist my trainer and prepare reports required.

During my work immersion experiences, I did my best and adhered to the rules and

regulations of the institution. I followed all the instructions and patiently accomplished all

the tasks assigned to me, I can say that these experiences are for keeps. I will treasure the

moments I shared with the people of Bureau Fire Protection, because they accepted,

trained and made me a member of their organization.

TRECE MARTIRES CITY SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

A. HISTORY AND BACKGROUND OF THE BFP

The BFP traces its roots from the defunct Constabulary Fire Protection Bureau,

then later PC-INP Office of Fire Protection Service. The agency was founded on

January 29, 1991, pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act 6975, which established

the Department of Interior and Local Government. The enactment of Republic Act

6975, otherwise known as the Department of Interior and Local Government Act of

1990 which took effect on January 1, 1991 paved the way for the establishment of the

Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail

Management and Penology (BJMP) as separate entities. Specifically, the Fire Bureau’s

charter was created under Chapter IV (Section 53 to 59) and carried-out through the

provisions of Rule VII (Sections 49 to 58) of the Implementing Rules and Regulations

of the said law. The organization was then placed under the direct supervision of the

DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order. The succeeding approval of the

Appropriation Act of 1991 has also caused the inaugural operation of the Bureau of

Fire Protection on August 2, 1991 as a distinct agency of the government, with its initial

preparation of Operation Plans and Budget (OPB) undertaken by the staff of the Office

of the National Chief Fire Marshal at Camp Crame, Quezon City headed by then

F/Brigadier General Ernesto Madriaga, INP (1990-1992) that took over from the long

reign of F/Major Primo D Cordeta (Ret.) the first Chief Fire Marshal (1978-1989). Gen.

Madriagaserved as the BFP first Acting Fire Chief/Director from 1991 to 1992. BFP is

responsible for ensuring public safety through prevention and/or suppression of all
