Preface
i
This instruction manual contains a description of the operations to be performed
in order to use the Marposs E9 gauge.
The system is described in its maximum configuration and in its possible variants,
so only the sections of the book that refer to the specific application must be
consulted.
It is advisable to follow the operating procedures indicated in this book, in order to
avoid damaging the gauging system.
The information contained in this manual are aimed to the following type of operator:
Machine operator, whose task is to check the correct operation of the system by
means of signaling toward the machine logic. If necessary, he can also make
interventions on the system is order to adapt it to the programming and to optimize
the times of interventions on the system and therefore its production.
Warning
All servicing or special maintenance operations must be carried
out by authorized personnel

1. Use of amplifier
1. Use of amplifier
1.1 General description
The application of the MARPOSS E9 gauging system on grinders offers a highly
reliable solution to the problem of improving the performance of this type of machine
tool.
This chapter contains a general description of the basic parts that form a gauge for
grinders:
• Measuring head.
During the grinding cycle the contacts of the measuring head touch the workpiece.
The mechanical movements of the workpiece that is being ground, transmitted by the
fingers, are converted into electric signals by the transducers and sent to the
electronic amplifier.
• Electronic amplifier.
The electronic amplifier processes the information it receives from the measuring
head, and displays, on the meter fitted on its front panel, the difference between the
actual measurement value and the final value that must be obtained.
The electronic amplifier can have several configurations, depending on the individual
applications. For instance:
• With controls, for automatic cycles;
• Without controls, for read-only cycles;
• With analog output;
• Etc.

In applications with memory (oscillating head or workpieces with interrupted
surfaces), the underlighting of this LED indicates that the measurement is
stored during the moments in which the contact does not touch the surface
that is being ground.

3. Zero-setting of measuring head
This chapter contains a description of the operations that must be performed on the
electronic amplifier and on the measuring head, in order to zero-set the gauging
system.
The procedure consists of two stages:
1. The machine tool and electronic amplifier are prepared for the zero-setting.
• Put the selector switch 6 in position (Manual mode)
• Put the zero-setting potentiometer 13 at the center of its range.
• Load the master workpiece in the machine.
2. The gauging system is zero-set by acting on the measuring head and on the
electronic amplifier (see paragraph 3.1, “Mechanical zero-setting of measuring
head” on page 19).
It is advisable to carry out these operations with the utmost care, in order to obtain
the accuracy and repeatability that the gauging system can ensure.
