The key takeaways are about defining, identifying, and naming polygons as well as their parts and types.

The learning objectives are to define polygons, identify and label the parts and types of polygon, and name polygons.

The seven parts of a polygon are: side, adjacent sides, vertex/vertices, adjacent vertices, diagonals, interior angles, and exterior angles.

Teacher's Activities

A. Activity
Good morning, class.
Let us all stand for the prayer. Please lead the prayer, Athena.
Please take your seat.
Before we start with our formal discussion, let us have an activity.
"NAME and FIND that POLYGON"
Each of you must find and name a polygon from the chart posted on the board, for
example ∆ abc.
Did you understand class?
So now let we start our activity.
Very good, class.
From the given picture, What is all about, Dianna? (It is all about naming a
polygons)
Brilliant!
That is all about naming a polygons.

So now class our lesson for the day is all about Polygons. So, what is POLYGON?
Each of the figure shown on the board is called polygon.

B. Analysis
What is Polygon, Zeus? (Polygon is a closed figure composed of sides and angles).
Excellent!
Polygon is a closed plane figure composed of sides and angles. It is derived from the
two words "poly" meaning many and "gonia" meaning angles.
Polygons are named according to the number of its sides with the letters that
correspond its vertices.
For example, we can say triangle ABC, quadrilateral ABCD, or pentagon ABCDE.
NAMING POLYGONS

3 tri 9 nona 15 pentadeca

4 tetra 10 deca 16 hexadeca

5 penta 11 undeca/hendeca 17 heptadeca

6 hexa/sexa 12 dodeca 18 octadeca

7 hepta 13 treskaideca 19 enneadeca

8 octa 14 tetradeca

Ten Digit One Digit

20 Icosi 1 hena
30 triaconta 2 di
40 tentraconta 3 tri
50 pentaconta 4 tetra
60 hexaconta 5 penta
70 heptaconta 6 hexa
80 octaconta 7 hepta
90 nonaconta/ enneaconta 8 octa
9 ennea/ nona

Example:
56- pentaconta hexagon
44- tetraconta tetragon

Class you got it?

If you got it, we proceed to our next topic. Our next topic is all about the parts of
polygon.

PARTS OF POLYGON
Polygons have a seven parts, the first one is Side.
1. Side

What is side, Apollo? (Side is a straight line with two endpoints.)

In the pop-up you see in your front where are the side of it, Ares? (the side it
that polygon are the segments ab, bc, cd, and da.

Very good, the next part is the adjacent sides.

2. Adjacent sides
What is adjacent sides, Thea? (adjacent sides are the sides preceeding to the
first side.)
In this polygon what are the adjacent side of segment ab, Hermes? (the adjacent
sides of the segment ab are the segment bc and ac.)

3. Vertex/ vertices
What is the vertex, Io? (Vertex is a point where two lines meet to form an
angle.)
Very good, Io. Now can you determine what are the vertices of this polygon?
(point a, b, c, d, and e.)

4. Adjacent vertices
So what is the adjacent vertices, Cronus? (Adjacent vertices are the
corresponding vertices from other vertices.)
Very Good, Cronus. Can you identify where in this polygon are the adjacent
vertices? (from that polygon the adjacent vertices of vertex a are the vertices b
and f.
5. Diagonals
The fifth parts of the polygon is the diagonals, So, what is diagonals, Hera?
(Diagonals is a segments joining any two vertices which are not endpoints of the
same side of a polygons.)
Diagonals is from the greek words "dia' meaning through and "gonia" meaning
angle.

6. Interior angles
The sixth part is the interior angle.
What is Interior angle, Poseidon? (Interior angle is the inner of the two angles
formed where two sides of a polygon come together.)
Very good!
7. Exterior angles
How about our last part the Exterior angle, Hades? (Exterior angle is the angle
between a side of a polygon and an extended adjacent side.)
Excellents, Now Titan can point- out in this polygon where is the interior angles
and exterior angles?

TYPES OF POLYGON
Our next topic is all about the Types of Polygon, we have six types of polygon.
1. Equiangular Polygon
What is Equiangular Polygon and me an example of it Iris? (Equiangular Polygon is a
polygon with an equal angle, for example Square and Rectangle.)
Very good,
Equiangular Polygon are polygon with equal angles, example of it is square and
rectangle they are both have 90° angles.

2. Equilateral Polygon
How about Equilateral Polygon, Sophia? (Equilateral Polygons are polygons with
equal sides, for example Equilateral Triangle and a Square.)
Brilliant, now class please see on this image the example of an equilateral polygon.
3. Regular Polygon
Regular Polygon is from the latin word "regula" which means a rule, consistent,
orderly or symmetrical.
This is an example of Regular Polygon.

4. Irregular Polygon
Irregular Polygon is the opposite of Regular polygon, see on this image the example
of irregular polygon.

5. Convex Polygon
What is Convex Polygon, Cassiopeia? (Convex polygon is a polygon having a diagonals
inside of it.)
Very will said Cassiopeia, So class did you observe the diagonals?

6. Concave Polygon
How about Concave Polygon, Hector? (Concave Polygon is a polygon having a
diagonals outside of it.)
Very Good!

C. Abstraction
Brilliant!
From the given pop-u image, What is all about class?
Very good, That is all about the types, parts and naming a polygon.
Very good, Are there any question? Clarification?
It is clear?
Very good class,
Let us now have our quiz. Kindly look on the pop-up that I present and list down what
parts or types of polygon is it.
Get one-fourth (1/4) of paper and answer it.

D. Application
1-10. Name the parts and types of Polygon.

11-15. Name that polygon.

11. 95 sides= 14. 69 sides=

12. 83 sides= 15. 15 sides=
13. 76 sides=

Answers:

1. Concave Polygon 9. Interior Angle

2. Irregular Polygon 10. Diagonals
3. Adjacent Sides 11. Enneaconta pentagon
4. Convex Polygon 12. Octaconta treskaigon
5. Equilateral Polygon 13. Heptaconta hexagon
6. Equiangular Polygon 14. Hexaconta nonagon
7. Sides/ Segment 15. Pentadecagon
8. Vertices

Congratulation class,You got high score. Keep it up!

IV. Assignment

A. Name the polygons with the following sides.

a. 100 sides
b. 1000 sides
c. 1,000,000 sides
d. O side
e. 1 side
B. Read about the triangle and its type.
