    PROCEDURE TEXT

    A. Definition of Procedure Text

    There are three definition about procedure text : (1)Texts that explain how something works or
    how to use instruction/operation manuals e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape
    recorder, the photocopier, and the fax. (2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g.
    recipes, rules for games, science experiments, and road safety rules. (3) Texts that deal with
    human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed.

    B. Generic Structure of Procedure Text


    1. Goal : telling the reader/listener what will be done. It can be a topic of how to do
    something. For example, the procedure of washing hands properly or how
    to was hands properly.
    2. Material used : telling the reader/listener what the material will be used. For example the
    material
    used in washing hands properly are water, soap, and towel
    3. Steps : telling the reader/listener the steps of doing something. For example the
    steps of washing hands properly.

    C. Purpose of Procedure Text

    a. To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of actions


    or steps.
    b. To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something

    D. Language Feature of Procedure Text:


    a. Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the last)
    b. Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : Wet your hands, Rub your hands, etc.
    c. Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for example,
    for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
    d. Using action verbs, e.g : wet, wash, rub, dry, etc.
    e. Using Simple Present Tense

    How to Wash Hands Properly
    Materials
    In washing hands you need the materials such as water, soap and towel.
    Steps
    There are some steps of washing hand properly:
    First, wet your hands with the water. Second, apply enough soap to cover all hand surfaces.
    Third, rub your hands palm to palm in circular motions. Rotate clockwise and anticlockwise.
    Fourth, rub back of each hand with palm of other hand with finger interlaced. Fifth, rub palm to
    palm with finger interlaced. Sixth, rub with back of fingers to opposing palms with finger
    interlocked. Seventh, rub each thumb clasped in opposite hand using the rational movement.
    Eighth, rub the tip of finger in opposite palm in a circular motion. Ninth, rub each wrist with
    opposite hand. Tenth, rinse hands with water. Eleventh, use the elbow to turn off tap. The last,
    dry thoroughly with a single-use towel.
