LESSON PLAN IN ICT

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 Recognize the importance and functions of straight through cable.
 Enumerate the procedure in creating straight through cable.
 Create straight through cable using T568B standard.
 Work safely and properly.

II. Subject matter:

Topic: Computer Networking (Creating Straight – through cable)

Tools/material/equipment:

 Crimping Tool
 LAN Tester
 Wire Stripper
 UTP/LAN Cable
 RJ45
 Laptop
 Projector

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Students Activity

Preparation

“Good morning class!” “Goodmorning too maam!”

“Please settle down now, and pick up pieces of (Students will arranged their chair and
scattered paper on the floor.” pick up pieces of paper)

“Okay class, Let’s all stand for the prayer….”

(The teacher will lead the prayer)

(The Teacher will check the attendance of the class)

Motivation

“So class how was your day?” “Great maam!”

“Great!”

“So before we proceed to our lesson, let’s play a “Yes maam!”

game. I know that you are already familiar with the
game 4 pic in 1 word, right?”

“Okay! Very good! So, I will show you some pictures “Yes maam!”
and you will tell me if what it is.”

(4 pic in 1 word game)

Lesson Proper
a. Discussion

“Class, what did you noticed about our activity a “It’s all about computer network
while ago?” maam!”

“Very good! So, we are going to tackle about

computer networking.”

“So before that, let’s define first some terms as we

will encounter them throughout our discussion.”

Ethernet cable –
(Student will read the definition)
Computer network –

Crimping –

Hub –
Local Area Network (LAN) –

Pin –

Ethernet/LAN Cabling –

“Alright class, Ethernet/LAN cabling is the process

of creating cables used to connect a network. Now,
there are two types of Ethernet/LAN cables. These
are:”

Types of LAN Cables:

1. Straight –through cable

2. Crossover cable

“Straight through cable is very much like to cross

over cable. Cross over cable is commonly used to
connect same devices directly, while straight through
cable used to connect unlike devices.”

“Can you give some example of connecting devices “Maam we used straight through cable
that use straight through cable?” in connecting printer to computer”

“Very good! What else?” “PC to Hub maam!”

“Very good class! So straight through cable is

primarily used in connecting two unlike devices”.

“Take a look at these pictures class; these are sample

connections that used straight – through cable.”
PC TO HUB

SWITCH TO PC

SWITCH TO ROUTER
“Now that you already know what is straight through
cable and its purpose, then let’s proceed on the
procedure in creating straight through cable.”

“It is a common practice in the industry that the

T568B color code is used for straight through cables.
So we will be using the T658B in creating a straight
through cable.”

“Alright! We already identified what color code will

be used for our straight through cable. Now, I will
demonstrate to you how to make a straight through
cable. But before that, let me remind you of the
following safety precautions.”
Safety Precautions:
 Avoid horse playing
 Use the proper tool
 Always be on task
 Be vigilant

“So am I clear class?” “Yes Maam!”

b. Application

(The teacher will group the class into two. Each (Provided with the necessary tool and
group will be given procedure in creating a straight materials. Students will perform actual
through cable. ) procedure in creating straight through
cable)
(The teacher will demonstrate how to make a straight
through cable.) 1. Strip off suitable length of the
cable sheath.
2. Sort wires by insulation.
3. Align the colored wires
Directions: according to the specific order.
(Students will create straight through cable using 4. Trim all the wires to the same
568Bcolor coding arrangement by following the steps length.
in creating straight through cable.) 5. Insert the wires into RJ45 plug
6. Maintain wire order, left to right
with RJ45 tab facing downward.
7. Crimp the RJ45 plug with the
crimping tool.
8. Verify the order of the wires in
correct making good contact
with the metal contacts in the
RJ45 plug.
9. Repeat all the steps in creating
the other end of the cable.

C. Generalization
Always take into consideration that before using the
cable in connecting actual devices. It is suggested that
you must use a LAN tester first to check the
functionality of the cable.
IV. Evaluation
Student’s performance will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.
(The teacher will explain how the performances will be assessed through scoring
rubrics.)

CRITERIA PERCENTAGE RATING

Safety procedures 15%
Adherence to the 30%
procedures
Workmanship 15%
Quality of the product 40%
TOTAL: 100%

V. Assignment
1. Read about Cross-over cabling
2. Identify the functions of Cross – over cabling
