environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning
and contribute to the learning of others.

Levels of Technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
X Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) : The video format will allow ALL of my students to excel in this project. It
engages my students by requiring them to take the information they read and apply it to their content for the
video. You can manipulate the video to include text, as well as sound and photos, giving every student a
chance to find something they're interested in. I hope that this project will be published so that the videos
offer support to their classmates on the subject that they chose, and act as a possible study guide for
upcoming tests. The video will be accessible to the entire class so that we can learn from other’s videos.

Lesson idea implementation: I will introduce the standard first, and then the project. The project should not
take long, it does not need to exceed five minutes in length. Classtime will be allotted for research on their
topic of choice, as well as creating their videos. Student learning will be assessed by how well they address
their topic, as well as the appealing nature of their creation. I expect the videos to adequately explain their
topic by using details from the text, as well as involving titles, page numbers, and special effects.

The videos will be published so that as a class we can watch the videos and learn of characters, settings, and
events through their projects instead of a lecture setting. I believe this will differentiate their learning by using
multimedia in conjunction with explaining to their own peers in their own words their topic, instead of reading
out of a book, or a lecture from the teacher. As the students are creating and publishing their original work, it

is already at a higher learning level. I will conclude the lesson by allowing them to watch their peers’ work, and
answering any questions that are still floating around. I will offer feedback (both positive and negative) for the
students by filling out a grading sheet.

Importance of technology: Using a multimedia tool is critical to this particular project because it allows them
to learn how to create a vodcast pertaining to education, as well as teaching a concept to other students. They
could not do this as effectively if only allowed to use podcasts, Google Docs, or a poster board. This project
could not be completed in the way that I hope (them utilizing both audio, visuals, and video) if we did not use
iMovies. The only other tool I require for this project is the book, as they need it for reference. However, they
may use the Internet for examples of their topics, or other students vodcasts for a guideline.

Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Internet safety and student privacy pertaining to the project will be
discussed before the project so that students are aware on how to keep themselves safe. There will be
restrictions and limits on where they can go set by the school. I will also list sites that they can access, and will
be walking around to ensure this is followed. I can also have their screens pulled up on my computer so that I
am aware of the sites that they are on. Students will either use their initials or an acceptable pseudonym when
posting their iMovie as well. I will refresh myself on school policies regarding internet safety and student
privacy to ensure I am adhering to the district’s policies in addition to common safety rules and internet
conduct.

Reflective Practice: I believe this lesson will impact student learning by engaging them in higher level thinking
by creating their own multimedia project, as well as getting them comfortable with creating such projects. My
video is to introduce to students the activity since we will be starting it the next class period. I’d like for them
to go ahead and pick their topic and start thinking about it. The lesson is already extended to the furthest
level. Since this is a multimedia project, it incorporates many aspects unlike other technology tools that only
allow visuals, text, or audio. iMovies involves all of these aspects, so I think this tool is sufficient enough for
this lesson.
