Video Lesson Plan
Technology Standard Addressed: Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a
variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.
Guiding question or statement: Students will use a variety of digital media and tools to create their own
educational movie that clearly communicates their knowledge about asking questions to reveal key details of
a text.
Set a goal that you want to achieve with this plan for learning with the use of multi-media tools? Will you
use your video as a sample of what students will design or will you use the video for meaningful learning
about a topic? Be sure to mention what tool you/your students will use: Students will watch my video
explaining the different types of questions that can be asked about a story or text to reveal key details, and
then they will read a short story on their own and create their own educational video, using iMovie, to
provide examples of questions they asked about the plot of their story.
☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☒ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Importance of technology:
Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to this project because it is how they will show their knowledge
about asking and answering questions, and it gives them the chance to apply this knowledge to a short story
that they choose. Creating a video about the different questions allows students to play with technology and
be creative to make an engaging and fun video. They can add different images, videos, and music to make it
to their liking, and this allows them a chance to express themselves. Students can also use the Internet to find
information and pictures, camera devices to take their own pictures, and their iPads to help create this video.
Technology enhances student learning by allowing students to be creative and play with video-editing to
show their knowledge rather than just taking a test or writing a paper.
Reflective Practice:
The activities in this lesson will impact student learning by giving students a fun and creative way to show
their thinking that is more than just a test or worksheet. Since they will be able to use technology, students
will stay engaged better and get a more authentic learning experience. By creating a product (video) and
having to apply knowledge to a new story, students are demonstrating higher order thinking skills. To extend
this lesson, I could put students into groups to share their videos and share any fun tools or tricks that they
learned on iMovie. They could also share their questions which would allow more practice for all.
