Group Assignment 2: Business Process & Entity-Relationship Modeling

Due date: by 11:59 pm on October 3

REQUIREMENTS
In this assignment, your group is required to do business process modeling and entity-relationship modeling based
on your report submitted for the Group Assignment 1. Your group should prepare and submit a document which
includes (1) Business Process Flowchart (with business activities) and (2) Entity-Relationship Diagrams
(with business rules). Please see “BUSINESS PROCESS MODELING” and “ENTITY RELATIONSHIP
MODELING” below for details.

Please upload your final document (Word or PDF) to the “Group Assignment 2” at Blackboard course page. You
are recommended to use Lucidchart to draw diagrams (but, not required). You may use other software
applications for diagrams (e.g., MS Visio, MS PowerPoint, etc.) if you want.

Note that, throughout group assignments, it is important that you work together as a group.

BUSINESS PROCESS MODELING

In Group Assignment 1, your group suggested one or more potential ways (or strategies) for your firm to be (or
to keep the place as) a business leader in the industry. Your firm’s CEO really liked your group’s ideas and decided
to hire your group as external consultants. Now, based on one of the strategies (that you suggested), your group
is asked to model business process and provide a business process flowchart.

Please do the followings:

1. Choose one strategy among those your group suggested (in Group Assignment 1).
2. Based on the chosen strategy, identify step-by-step business activities. This step may include identifying
not only activities but also inputs, resources, outputs, and customers.
3. Based on the business activities identified from the previous step, provide a business process flowchart.

Make sure that you include (a) the strategy chosen, (b) the business activities identified, and (c) the business
process flowchart in your group’s submission.

ENTITY RELATIONSHIP MODELING

Your firm’s CEO plans to completely redesign the firm’s database for the new strategy chosen by your group.
She asked your group to provide a blueprint for database design (i.e., entity-relationship diagrams). Now, based
on the business process flowchart (which you derived from business process modeling earlier), your group should
perform entity-relationship modeling.

Please do the followings:

1. Based on your business process flowchart, think about 3 different business events that may occur.
2. For each of 3 business events, identify business rules.
3. For each of 3 business events, provide an entity-relationship diagram based on the identified business
rules from the previous step. Remember that you also need to provide a data dictionary for each entity
you identified in the diagram.

Make sure that you include (a) three business events, (b) the business rules for each business event, and (c) the
entity-relationship diagram (with a data dictionary for each entity) for each business event in your group’s
submission. Note that each entity-relationship diagram may include 2~4 entities (depending on your business
rules).
