3.4.1 & 3.4.2


A full-time and part-time student must register course(s) according to the credit
hour load as prescribed in the table below; except otherwise stated in the
programme structure:

A student may register for less than the minimum or more than the maximum credit
hours with the approval of the Dean/ Director/Head of the respective Faculty.

A student in the final semester of study may register up to a maximum of twenty
(20) credit hours required to complete the programme of study.

b) Exemption will require a student to replace the course with another course in order to fulfill
the total credit hours required to complete from the respective programme;
c) Student who have pass MPW courses at the certificate/foundation level is not allowed to re-
take the course at the Diploma level;
d) Students who have passed MPW courses at certificate/foundation/diploma are allowed to
re-take the courses at the Bachelor’s degree level. Otherwise student may take other
replacement courses offered;
e) MPU courses are optional to the international students but students are highly encouraged
to take the courses. Alternatively international students may replace the MPU courses with
other courses, as advised by the Faculty or School;
f) Subject to an exemption fee as prescribed in the Student Financial Handbook.

GENERAL RULES FOR EXEMPTIONS (DIPLOMA)

Course that can be exempted:
MPU2213 - Bahasa Kebangsaan A

Rules:
Student must obtain Credit Replacement course :
(C- & above) for Bahasa Melayu MPU2223 - Skills Enhancement
during SPM

Student is required to take


MPU2213 Bahasa Kebangsaan A instead of Skills Enhancement
if the student not eligible for exemption.

GENERAL RULES FOR EXEMPTIONS (BACHELOR)

PROGRAM LEVEL: BACHELOR

MPU3213 - Bahasa Kebangsaan A

Replacement course :
Rules:
MPU3233 – Design Thinking
Student must obtain Credit
(C- & above) for Bahasa Melayu
Student is required to take during SPM or pass the course
MPU3213 Bahasa Kebangsaan A during Diploma/ Certicate/
instead of Study Skills, if the Foundation level
student not eligible for exemption.

ENGLISH POLICY

The English language entry requirement, for Malaysian Students:

Bachelor Programmes
▪ Malaysian students who enroll in UNITAR Bachelor programmes must fulfil the
following English proficiency requirements:
▪ Students who have a distinction in English Language at the SPM/SPMV level
or Band 4, 5 and 6 in MUET, are not required to take additional English
Courses.
▪ Students with a credit in English Language at the SPM/SPMV level are
required to sit for English Preparatory 2 only.
▪ Students without a credit in English Language at the SPM/SPMV level are
required to sit for English Preparatory 1 and upon completion, they will
proceed to English Preparatory 2.
▪ Students who have sat and passed their English Courses previously from a
different institution are automatically exempted from sitting for English
Preparatory 1 and English Preparatory 2. They may proceed to their
academic programme structure.
▪ For Bachelor of Accounting, a minimum of Band 2 in Malaysian University
English Test (MUET) is compulsory.

• Students entering a degree programme will be placed according to


whichever higher of qualification (SPM/SPMV/MUET) shown in the table above.
• The courses will have a SATISFACTORY/ UNSATISFACTORY system respectively
which will be endorsed and captured in student’s Academic Transcript.
• Students must pass the course in order to graduate.
• This ruling is applicable to students enrolled from April 2019.
