Subject: Letter of Explanation

To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Keresa Haughton and I am 18 years old. I graduated from The Queen’s School
June 2019, and I received eight subjects in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate
(CSEC) examination. I went on to attend the sixth form program at The Queen’s School, and
during my first year I received three unit 1 subjects in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency
Examinations (CAPE). I have four unit 2 CAPE subjects pending as this is my last year of
sixth form.

At present, I have enrolled in the General Studies Diploma program at Yukon University and
I received my Letter of Acceptance. The goal is to start this program in September 2021.
Originally, I enrolled in the Northern Science Diploma program (see attached), but my final
certificate for my CAPE studies has been sent to me as yet, hence I couldn’t get my academic
credentials evaluated in time to meet the prerequisites for this program. Therefore, in an
effort to have enough time to get my student visa processed in time for me to start in the Fall
2021 semester, I decided to change my program from Northern Science to General Studies.
After my first year at Yukon University I plan to transfer from the General Studies back to
Northern Science. Upon completing my studies at Yukon University, I plan to move on to
another institution where I will finish my bachelors in Clinical Psychology. Further to that,
since my understanding is that the processing time for this type of application could take up
27 weeks, if there isn’t enough time to process my application for the August 30, 2021 start
date, please still consider my application because I am willing to start my in January 2022 as
well.

I have chosen Canada to further my studies because it is globally recognized for their
education system. Also, from my research and from what my family who lives there has told
me, it is culturally diverse which appeals to me. It would be a privilege to be exposed to other
cultures and to be able to study in a country where diversity and multiculturalism is embraced
and welcomed.

My grand aunt, Donna Marie Haughton, will be providing the financial support throughout
my studies.

Upon finishing my studies, I would be eager to return to my country to share my knowledge

and skills in this field. I am confident that there will be numerous opportunities in my field.
Also I would have a platform to showcase my honed skills.

I am hoping that the given information will be sufficient for the requirements of the Canadian

Embassy in Jamaica in order to get my study permit approved. It is also my goal to finish the
course and act accordingly to the student visa conditions. I am looking forward to a
favourable response with regards to my application.

Yours truly,

Keresa Haughton
