Lesson 1: A.1.1

1. Should there be a proper study of morality? Why or why not?

It is important for us to study morality. Through morality, its values gives
meaning and purpose to our lives. If our lives are planned and aligned to respective moral
principles such as courage, honesty, compassion, forgiveness and modesty then we can
form a harmonious relationship with everyone. We were going to be able to direct
behavior that are beneficial and fulfilling. Morality isn’t just about defining or classifying
on what is right and wrong but rather on focusing to widen such horizon of understanding
and respecting individual perspectives and opinions. Due to some factors such as
location, ethnicity, and society we were diverse into different classification of traditions,
beliefs and opinions. Through the proper study of morality we can apply different
understanding that are beneficial in absorbing and accepting such differences. Above all,
it pursues and focuses to proper decision making process. Through this we can avoid
chaos wherein people will fully understand the significance of a certain beliefs. Without a
systematic study of morality, the amount of evilness is subsequent to the amount of
goodness. Killing may see to be normal, taboos will be normal and etc. A society without
morality will be as same as society without peace and goodness.

2. Are all acts be subjected to ethical analysis? Why?

Ethics serves as a guide to a moral daily living and helps us judge whether our
behavior can be justified. It refers to society’s sense of the right way of living our daily
lives. It does this by establishing certain rules, principles, and values on which we can
base our conduct. Analyzing our act towards other people plays a vital role in creating a
more harmonious relationship with everyone. In analyzing whether our acts are good or
bad, this involves the systematic process of ethical analysis. It is a systematic approach in
figuring out the right moral decisions in a particular situation. By analyzing the situation
logically, in accordance to a certain ethical code. Knowing or identifying whether our
acts are good or bad can bring a significant benefits to certain situations including self-
improvement and good social interaction/relationship.

3. Have you already encountered a situation where you need to decide or choose
between to equal options?
Life is indeed unpredictable. Commonly we usually face some scenarios that will
test the goodness in us. Sometimes life take us into two roads that will diverged us into
something we couldn’t travel both. In life decisions, no matter how good its effect on us
there will always be that situation or choice that will stand out. A choice that will deliver
us into something worth rejoicing enough. In the past 20 years of my life, I have
encountered a lot of moral dilemma in my life. The things I faced and the struggles I
overcome made me into who I am today. It isn’t easy, for everytime you will pick a
certain choice you must consider different factors that may be affected with your
decision. It may be your family, relatives, friends and even yourself. I have this challenge
that I faced 3 years ago that certainly changed my perspective in trusting a particular

person. It was one of my toughest battle that will save me from the nightmares I am
facing during that time. I was stacked between the disappointment I might give to my
family and the things other people might say or the choice of prioritizing my mental
health. Throughout the journey I am blessed enough to have atleast a significant person
that helped me get through it. In the end, I chose myself and didn’t bother on what others
might say. I can always get back on track when it comes to my academic journey. But I
cannot contain to be successful in school but a loser and unhealthy when it comes to my
mental health.

4. Are all moral behavior the same among all cultures? How about among different
generations?
We are all diverse into different culture, society, traditions, beliefs and way of
living, that’s why it is also considered that we will all be different when it comes to our
moral behavior. There are many circumstances that we have a certain belief or bunch of
practices that we considered common or acceptable in our own perspective, but has high
possibility that this might be cancelled or considered unacceptable in some other group of
people. Some examples are the different practices between these two religions: Islam and
Christianity. As a follower of God, we have certain practices that may be unacceptable
with Muslims. Some practices of the Muslim people includes that men are acceptable to
marry twice or more, as long as they can provide and sustain the needs of his wives and
children. While in our religion it is in the commandment of God that we are only destined
to be married with one significant person for we value the sacrament of union. There are
some factors that affects this kind of perspective. Different generation is one of them.
Commonly, most of our culture and beliefs as of today are being practiced since then. It
has been done as a sign of respect to the beliefs of our ancestors. But as time passed by
we cannot avoid to face multiculturalism due to fast phase of the world’s innovation and
the idea of mixing of different beliefs due to colonization. There are some acts that was
practiced before but not anymore in today’s time. It is a matter of socialization and
adapting some cultures into our own culture.
