Nutritional Needs of Adolescence
• Due to rapid growth and development at
adolescence stage, you have greater need
for certain nutrients.
• As appetite is also likely to increase, it is
important that food choices are made
carefully.
• Good dietary guidance has three important
elements: pyramid, plate, and real food.

• The food guide pyramid emphasized the
importance of eating a balanced, varied
diet depicting five main food groups: Slide 12

• It shows examples of what to eat and the right


proportion and recommended serving per day of
each food group.
– In order to stay healthy, eat variety of
nutritious foods everyday.
– For you to grow and develop to the fullest
and improve you nutritional status, it is
important to follow healthy eating
guidelines.
Activity #2
• In a whole sheet of bond paper, draw and
label your pinggang pinoy appropriate for
yourself following the food guide pyramid.
Assignment:
• Visit your meal tracker sheets in week 1
and 2. Find out if your meals are following
the food guide pyramid. Make necessary
corrections.
Health is wealth
– Grains- gives energy because it contains
carbohydrates. (6-8 servings)
– Fruits- excellent sources of Vit. C which heals
cuts and keep skin healthy and fiber which
helps in digestion.
– Vegetables- sources of fiber and vit. A
– Dairy products- calcium which builds strong
teeth and bones.
– Other Proteins (meat, fish, beans, nuts, and
eggs)- iron and protein which gives you strong
