MODULE 1

A. Direction: Revise the following statements so that they would follow the 7Cs of
business
letter writing.
1. It has come to my knowledge that you have an urgent need for a proposal.
>> I want to inform you that you have an urgent meeting at 9:00 AM tomorrow.

2. The implementation of the procedures caused the introduction of confusion


amongst
the members of the sales team.
>> The members of the sales team were confused by the implementation of the
procedures.

3.This is to request for your good office to give me a copy of your bank statements.
>> May I request a copy of your bank statements from your good office?

4. I acknowledge the receipt of your email and I beg to thank you.


>> Thank you for sending me the receipt of your email.

5. I would like to express my interest in taking a vacation from May 1-7, 2022.
>> I hope you will grant my request to take a vacation from May 1 to May 7, 2022.

6. There are fifteen agents who will be attending the Sales Conference which will be
held on December 18, 2022.
>> Fifteen agents from our company will be attending the Sales Conference on
December 18, 2022.

B. Direction: Differentiate the words/phrases given below. Determine how they


should be used in business writing.

Advice - noun that means an opinion or suggestion meant to help someone


Example: I have no idea what brand of shoes to buy. I need to ask you for your
advice.

Advise- A verb that means to offer suggestions meant to help or inform someone.
Example: The health secretary advised the public to stay at home as much as
possible.

Compared with- used to compare similar things.


Example: You are prettier compared with your sister.
Compared to- used to compare dissimilar things.
Example: I would compare your gorgeous face to a painting in museum.

Fill in- supply something that is missing.


Example: Please fill in your name and mobile number.

Fill out- to complete a form or survey with requested information.


Example: Please fill out the form with all the information needed

Fill up- to make something full.


Example: My brother filled up the drum with hot water

Follow-up- can either noun or adjective, means to describe an event or action


thereafter a prior event or action
Example: The registrar asked the student to come back for a follow-up requirement.

Follow up- A verb that means to pursue an issue through a subsequent action.
Example: The event is tomorrow afternoon but you still haven’t planned. I need you
to follow up on that as soon as possible.

With regards to- to indicate the subject that is being talked or written about.
Example: They have been circularized with regards to the new design.

With regard to- is a preposition that signals a reference to the subject of a sentence.
Example: I am writing with regard to your recent order.

Advance- to make progress


Example: Tickets must be purchased two weeks in advance.

Advanced- far on in time or course a man advanced in years.


Example: The century is advanced, but every individual begins afresh.

Please- take only one's own wishes into consideration in deciding how to act or
proceed.
Example: I hope you will please write to me from all the cities you visit.

Kindly- A kindly person or action is a kind one.


Example: Kindly do as you are ordered.

Irregardless- is a word sometimes used in place of regardless or irrespective.


Example: Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.

Regardless- without paying attention to the present situation; despite the prevailing
circumstances.
Example: I'll do that regardless of the consequences.
Continual- happening repeatedly, usually in an annoying or not convenient way.
Example: Continual calm reassurance should be given.

Continuous- marked by uninterrupted extension in space, time, or sequence.


Example: She was in continuous employment until the age of sixty-five.

Scenario: You want to attend a training session of your choice from the list given by

department. Refer to the training schedule below.
Purpose: You will write to ask for a copy of the training schedule and register in one
of the
programs.
