ACTIVITY 1
Human beings possess the ability to project our thoughts forward to speculate
about what will happen in our future. We can contemplate our own mortality and
reflect on existence beyond our own lives. Doing so can plunge as into despair or
elevate as to heights of exultation. In times of desperation, can arts serve as a
talisman, an object believed to have power to bring luck or offer protection,

consolation to those who are suffering and solace to those who have survived
the unavoidable, such as sickness and death. We also use art to pay homage to

hopes. We may ponder our own mortality and ponder life outside of our own

itself. However, the most useful primary sources are usually considered to be
those that were created closest to the time period you’re researching. While
secondary sources are those which are written ‘about’ events in the past. They
usually interpret those events through the lens of the time period in which they
are written. Secondary sources address the primary source, but were created
later by someone who did not experience it first-hand or participate in the events
or conditions you’re researching. Scholars writing about historical events, people,
objects, or ideas produce secondary sources because they help explain new or
different positions and ideas about primary sources. These secondary sources
generally scholarly books, including textbooks, articles, encyclopedias, and
anthologies.

When do we say an arts is representational or non-representational? Bring some

art clippings and show to the class the difference of two.

Representational art or figurative art represents objects or events in the real
world, usually looking easily recognizable. Just like a painting of a butterfly looks
o
very much like a butterfly, it's quite obvious what the artist is depicting.
