I.IELTS SPEAKING PART 1 OVERVIEW
Dialogue: Introduction and interview: The examiner will introduce him/herself
and check your identification, start the recording, then ask you questions about some
familiar topics.
General topics: background, hobbies, interests, routines, lifestyle and habits.
Tell facts, opinions, attitudes, reasons
Part 1 lasts for 4-5 minutes. The examiner will ask you some familiar questions
about your hometown, family, hobbies, acquaintances, etc. You are supposed to
answer the questions briefly and accurately, along with specific examples. Part 1 aims
to test the candidate's ability to discuss familiar topics and use simple English
grammar.

a. Begin with lead-in phrases:
Ok then, Alright, Well, you know, Actually, Right, Well, first of all
b. Then use 1st pointing phrases
The first thing I should mention is that…/ The point I’d like to begin with is that…

I suppose I should begin by highlighting the fact that…

V. TYPE 2 AND 3: LIKING/ DISLIKING QUESTIONS

- Clearly answer whether you like/ dislike doing st/st (and the degree of like/dislike).
- Explain the reasons.
2. What to say instead of “like”

Use be + verb-ed when talking about the person who is experiencing the emotion:

Use be + verb-ing when talking about the thing that is causing the emotion:
