admitted to slowing down older iPhones to compensate for degraded batteries.

Sure, you could always pony up for a new battery (or buy a new phone altogether). But if
you’d rather save your cash, there are plenty of ways to get some extra juice out of your
current device. Try these 15 tips and tricks to extend your battery life.

1. SWITCH ON BATTERY SAVER MODE.

This might seem obvious, but most people don’t think about using battery saver mode until
their phone is already about to die. Apple’s “Low Power Mode” switches on automatically
when you hit 20 percent, but you can head into Settings > Battery to switch it on whenever
you want or add it to your Control Center for easier access. Most Android phones offer a
similar feature that can be toggled on at any time, which should help your device conserve
some power and keep you going all day.
2. CHARGE SMART.

When you do have to recharge your phone, there are some precautions you should take to
make sure you don’t degrade the battery any more than necessary. First, only use fast
charging when you’re in a rush. While this feature can quickly top off your battery, it also
wears down the battery faster than regular charging. If you have time to spare, it's better to
use a regular old charger. Second, don’t charge your phone overnight—it only takes a few
hours to get a full charge, and the rest of the time spent plugged in will only hurt your
battery life in the long run.

3. TURN OFF BLUETOOTH AND WI-FI WHEN NOT IN USE ...

If Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled, but you’re not connected to anything, your phone will
waste battery trying to find a new connection. Instead, the next time you’re out of the
house, try switching off Wi-Fi to keep your battery going a little longer. The same goes for
Bluetooth. Whenever you’re not connected to a wireless speaker or headphones, just toggle
it off. You can control Bluetooth and Wi-Fi from the quick settings menu on most phones,
so extra battery life is just a swipe away.

4. ... BUT USE WI-FI WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE.

On the other hand, if Wi-Fi is available, you should be using it. Not only does Wi-Fi save
data, it uses less battery life than a cellular connection. Don’t forget to switch on Wi-Fi at

5. TURN ON AIRPLANE MODE.

If your battery is starting to run low you might want to consider switching on Airplane
Mode, which will turn off a bunch of features that use up power. That includes Bluetooth
and Wi-Fi, but if you need either of those, you can always turn them back on manually
without leaving Airplane Mode.

6. LOWER THE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS.

When it comes to using up smartphone battery life, one of the worst culprits is the display:
Whenever it’s on, you’re losing precious power. One way to get around that is to lower
your screen brightness from the quick settings menu. Most phones adjust the brightness
automatically depending on the current lighting, so you may have to do this every time you
switch on the screen. Still, it’s worth it if you get even a few minutes of extra phone time as
a result.
7. DELETE THE FACEBOOK APP AND USE YOUR BROWSER INSTEAD.

Facebook’s app is one of the biggest battery hogs around, but there’s an easy way to get rid
of the app without missing out on your aunt’s latest status update. You can access Facebook
from your smartphone’s browser for a nearly identical experience. (You can even get
notifications.) For quick access, try bookmarking Facebook.com and setting it as a home
screen icon to replace the app.

8. TURN OFF LOCATION TRACKING FOR APPS THAT DON’T NEED IT.

Some apps (like Google Maps) really do need to know where you are to function, but
others (like Facebook) probably don’t. Besides the issue of privacy, turning off location
services for apps that don’t need it can help extend your battery life, since your phone
won’t be working overtime to track where you are. On an iPhone, just go to Settings >
Privacy > Location Services to see which apps are tracking you and toggle off the ones that
shouldn’t be. Android offers a similar feature, just head to Settings > Security & Location >
Location.

9. TURN OFF BACKGROUND REFRESH.

Background app refresh is another potential battery waster to consider, though it’s not the
worst offender. This feature lets apps update in the background so they’re ready to go when
you need them. That might sound bad but it only happens at ideal times, like when you’re
already on Wi-Fi. Still, if you want to disable it just head to Settings > General >
Background App Refresh to switch it off. Pulling this off is a little trickier on Android
depending on your phone model, but you should be able to find the option by heading to
Settings > Data Usage and then poking around.

10. TURN OFF AIRDROP.

This one is for iPhones only. Apple’s AirDrop feature is a useful tool for quickly sharing
pictures and files with the people around you, but it can be a battery waster too. To turn off
AirDrop, just swipe open Apple’s Control Center and tap on it to the feature off. You can
also find it in Settings > General > AirDrop.

11. TURN OFF SPOTLIGHT.

Another iPhone-only trick for saving battery life is to turn off Spotlight, Apple’s intelligent
built-in search. Spotlight tracks your activity to show you the best possible results when
you search for something on your phone. That’s useful, but it’s also a battery waster. Turn
it off by heading to Settings > General > Spotlight Search. From there, you can uncheck
items from a list of activities Spotlight tracks (Apps, Contacts, Music, etc.), or just remove
them all.
12. TURN OFF “HEY SIRI” AND “OK GOOGLE” HOTWORDS.

Being able to activate your phone’s AI assistant with a voice command is great, but it
comes at a price. If your iPhone or Android device is always listening, that means it’s
always wasting battery power. To turn off Hey Siri, head to Settings > Siri & Search and
then toggle off “Listen for ‘Hey Siri.’” On Android, open the Google app and tap the menu
icon in the top left corner. Then select Settings > Voice > “Ok Google” detection. You
should see a toggle labeled “‘Say Ok Google’ any time.” Switch it off and you’re done.

13. TURN OFF VISUAL EFFECTS, LIVE WIDGETS, AND LIVE WALLPAPER.

Widgets and moving wallpaper are great for sprucing up your smartphone, but they also
waste a bunch of battery life. If you’re worried about making it through the day without
running out of juice, switch to a simple still background image and delete any widgets that
update automatically. On an iPhone, you can also remove any visual effects by heading to
Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion. Android has a similar option for in-
app animations, too: Just head to Settings > Developer options and then disable “Window
animation scale,” “Transition animation scale,” and “Animator duration scale.”

14. TURN OFF AUTOMATIC APP UPDATES.

It’s hard to remember a time before automatic app updates, a time when you had to
manually update each app as improvements rolled out. But if you’re serious about
extending your battery life, killing those automatic updates may be your best option.
Switching off automatic app updates reduces the amount of activity happening in the
background on your phone, which means less power is wasted on non-essential actions. To
turn it off on your iPhone, head to Settings > iTunes & App Store and then toggle off
Updates under Automatic Downloads. On Android, open the Google Play Store and tap on

Dead phone power problem is a common phenomenon. The main goal of troubleshooting a
mobile phone is to proffer solution. To troubleshoot properly, ask the following questions
as if you are a Medical Doctor attending to a patient:

Did the problem happen shortly after buying a new phone? Then go for claims of warranty.
Due to faulty production, one could get a form of compensation.

Find out if it was caused by water or other liquid substances aside the ones that don’t
conduct electric current. If it was caused by water as the case is mostly, locate the areas
affected and clean up using a cleansing agent like ethanol-alcohol or menthylated spirit

voltage on the meter is unstable, that’s a signal to watch. Look for the power diode close to
the battery terminal area where you see points like VBat, BSI, GND and so on. Shorted
power diode could cause power problem if affected by chargers or other causes. A normal
power diode in many cases should allow current flow in one direction and not back and
forth. If causes a short, replace the shorted diode or strike it out.

Find out if the phone was previously flashed: If you have found out that the phone went
dead after a flash, simply get the right firmware and re-flash back. If you don’t know what

Your phone speaker problem solution is here! Are you worried about your phone not
ringing well or stopped ringing completely due to one thing or the other? The problem of
phone speaker not ringing is very worrisome as one finds it difficult to even know when a
call comes in.
The cause of this problem could be multifaceted, thus, it is very important that you try and
figure out what you did or something that happened before your phone stopped ringing well
or completely. In this post, I will be showing you how to figure out this problem and deal
with it squarely so you could get your phone working perfectly again!

Causes And Solutions 

The compact size component called the speaker [ringer or buzzer]  is mostly found at
the base of the phone when held in call position. phone speaker problem makes it
impossible for people to hear their phone ring when there is an incoming call. The
following could be responsible for a faulty ringer in a mobile phone:  

1     Tampered Settings
2     High/Low resistance value
3     Oxidation
4     A bad/partial contact

5     Short or Open Circuit

From experience, I have found out that most  phone speaker problem are settings related!
Whenever you notice that your phone doesn’t ring out loud or is on a very low ringing
output or you don’t hear it ringing at all, what you need to do first is to check your phone’s
settings and adjust the ringer volume settings to a desired level and if the problem is
coming from there then all should be with your ringer.

High/Low resistance value: 
This factor, like in the  case of the mouth piece, it also affects the ringer of a mobile phone
thereby affecting its performance.  The resistance value of a healthy mobile phone ringer
ranges between 8 to 10 Ohms using the Ohms meter. When the resistance value of the
ringer is less than 8 Ohms, the ringer gets louder and this can cause the ringer to damage
prematurely and also when the resistance value of the ringer is higher than 10 Ohms the
effect will be that the ringer will ring faintly. 

Furthermore, there are times that you might not even hear your phone ring at all because
the ringer has become completely dead. To solve this problem,  if you do not have or do not
even know how to use a multi or Ohms meter, simply get an old unused scrap phone
remove the same speaker and fix it in to your phone and you are done if it gives you that
nice cool sound output.

Just as the performance of a mouthpiece is affected by this factor, the same applies also to

An open circuit on the other hand means that there is a total or partial disconnection as a
result of a missing or damaged path or parts. In this case a special trouble shooting becomes
necessary and only a better trained experienced technician would handled that, but you
could try something out too. Just check if there is a noticeable wire disconnection from the
speaker and solder it back to position with the help of your soldering iron. You can also get
the schematic diagram for best troubleshooting purpose. 
Lastly, depending on your phone make, you might just try checking if your speaker type is
the two pin type that are bent out of position, if this is the case, just straighten it back. There
are other speakers that have connectors, when there is a disconnection, all you need to do in
this case is to just connect it back and you are done with the problem!

The mouthpiece problem in mobile phone is mostly caused by the malfunctioning of a

small component called mouthpiece, it is usually found at the base of the phone when held
in a call position. The problem makes it impossible for people to hear from you whenever
you initiate a call. The problem resulting from the mouthpiece is multi-faceted.  The
following among others could be responsible for a mouthpiece problem in a mobile phone.

Phone Mouthpiece Problem, Possible Causes And

Solution:
1. High/Low resistance value
2. Oxidation
3. Bad/partial contact
4. Short or open circuit

High/Low Resistance Value

The resistance value of a healthy mouthpiece ranges between 600 to 1800 Ohms using the
Ohms meter.  So when the resistance value is lesser than 600 Ohms your mouth piece is
louder so people can hear you even louder than usual and when the mouth piece is higher
than 1800 Ohms people will hear you very faint and this is because high resistance opposes
the flow of current required for the mouth piece to function properly.  To fix this problem,
simply buy a new one or get a scrap phone, remove the mouthpiece and using your
soldering iron, solder it to the mouth piece interface of your phone taking note of the
positive and negative wires.

The negative wires are black colored while the positive wires are red, or yellow colored
mostly  in the case of universal or wired mouth piece. For other mouthpiece that used
flakes, just connect with jumper wire  if you notice there is a break and that will be okay.
There are some other mouthpiece that are surface mount in the sense that they are soldered
on panel or PCB [Printed Circuit Board] of the mobile phone, in this case you would need a
mobile repairing equipment called the rework station and this is mostly used by
professional technicians for doing a lot on the PCB including the removal of surface mount
or soldered mouth piece. If you do not have access to the rework station, then you will have
to visit a care center for a more professional service.

Oxidation
Oxidation is also another cause of mouth piece problem. This happens when the mouth
piece region has become moist and covered with some dirty particles over a long period,
the chemical reaction result in a faulty mouth piece that has to be changed for normal
functioning again. Although there are times that just a mere cleaning of same oxidized
surface with alcohol or menthylated spirit using a tooth brush could solve the problem.

play safe with our information though!


o Credit Cards: Your bank will never ask you for ATM card nos or pin details for any
reason as we know there are scammers out there who send funny messages
requesting that customers supply such information. When they call you on phone,
give them a wrong ATM numbers. When they ask for the 3 digit pin on the other
side of the card, just tell them the nos is 419 and they will understand that you
have found them out!
o BVN (Bank Verification Number): Your BVN is a key to other details that serves as
an aid to prying eyes! Do not fill out this nos on any form promising you financial
benefits except for admins or personnel at your work place where you are sure
your data is safe or third-party financial organisation recognized and duly certified
by relevant government or international bodies! If you are trading crypto
currencies or integrating a payment gateway on an e-commerce site, you might be
faced with this challenge….as we learn about the controversies associated with
the digital merchants requesting BVN for for verification and authentication
purposes.
Unsecured Websites
SSL Certificate:

You may have at one time or the other seen a notification at the top left corner of your
browser warning that a site is not secure, thus sensitive data like credit card details may be
compromised. This query is as a result of an outdated SSL certificate (secure socket layer)
which needs validation.

When you are on secure site you should see the word “secure” or a “green padlock
symbol”.

Have you been experiencing phone charging problem that keeps you wondering why? well,
you are most definitely lucky to find this post. I will be extensively dealing with this in
details until you find a way out of this mess! It is frustrating when you have a lot to do and
you can’t due to the fact that your phone is unable to charge, this is  more frustrating when
your phone is even powered by an inbuilt battery which makes it even worse because you
can’t even resort to using a universal charger as most of us do with detachable batteries
right?
After reading through this article, you will be properly equipped with the right information
with which to tackle this monstrous problem. Unlike the laptop computers whose charging
port is bigger and stronger, the mobile phones usb/charging port are somehow fragile, and
as a result they often get damaged after a prolonged usage. However they can also be fixed
or repaired to function well as normal as possible.

Charging And USB Pins 

Charging problem solution is easier when you understand some basics. The usb/charging
port of most mobile phones have five pins, the first and the last pins are called Vbus/Vchg
[the positive terminal that takes in 5.0 volts] and the GND [Ground which is the negative
terminal that takes in 0 volt] when any of these two pins are broken or have partial or total
disconnection, a charging issue will be experienced and this will normally call for a
replacement.  But in some minor cases all you might need to do when your phone is not
charging is to check the charging port for any suspicious particle which you can use a tooth
pick to gently and carefully remove, you could also blow in air in the process and that could
even solve the problem too. 

The other two pins are responsible for your phone being detected by your computer as an
external device attached.  When your phone does not get found or installed by your
computer, it is mostly as a result of any of these usb pins DP[D+] or DM[D-] and fixing
these two pins will resolve the problem. NB. In some phones usb, the D+ and D- are some
times in the reverse order e.g D+ comes before D-. The one after DP and DM is the fifth
one that is just there: meaning that you don’t really need to bother about it.
 

Procedure For Fixing A USB/Charging Port Problem

Fixing a USB/charging port could be sometimes complicated and challenging, but in some
cases its very easy to sort out. The following could be responsible for charging problem in a
mobile phone:  

 Corrosion
 Bad pins/port
 Complete/partial contact
 Faulty internal charging components

Corrosion
USB charging port could be internally corroded and blocked by unwanted particles, in such
case a replacement or servicing becomes necessary. Replacing a USB charging port will
require the use of a special machine called the SMD Rework Station, but there are some
charging port that comes with a separate sub panel e.g Samsung Note series 1, 2, 3 etc
Infinix Note series phones, most Tecno android phones e.g. W series and others just to
mention but few. The point here is that if your phone’s charging port is the type that comes
with a connector point like the ones in the image below, it is easier for you to do it yourself
though most people are afraid to do some simple stuff because they are afraid they might
get something bad! Well, in that case you could get an experienced mobile phone
technician. 
Bad pins/port
A charging port must be replaced with a good one once you notice that it has gone bad. The
signs includes: an internal or external broken pin[s], an extra large port opening. A broken
pin, e.g the vbus/vchg will always result in difficulty in charging. On the other hand, an
enlarged port will either make your phone charge on an off because the port has become
slacked as a result of wear and tear, you can adjust an enlarged port, but for a broken
internal or external pin, you will have to replace completely.

Complete/partial contact
A complete or partial contact could be responsible for complete or partial phone not
charging problem. In the case of a phone using a sub-charging panel, simply replace it with
a new one, this is even easy because it only need you connecting it to the main panel
through the main board socket, but if the phone’s charging port is the surface mount type,
you would need a professional rework station to do that, so if you can’t lay your hands on
that, simply get an experience phone technician.

Faulty Internal Charging Components

The charging problem could also be traced to a faulty or bad charging ICs, resistors, diodes,
capacitors, transistor switch etc. The charging components comes in different shapes, sizes
and values for some specific phones, so you might therefore need to study the phone
schematic diagrams to be able to differentiate one from the other.
Power charging diode could be shorted: The charging diode allows the flow of 5.0 volts
coming from your phone’s charger to pass through into the charging circuit just in one
direction, so if things go wrong, the diode could be internally damaged thereby making it
act as if it were a fuse, this condition can even result in several chargers being burnt if not
quickly detected, you could also notice the phone going off when charger is being inserted

diode, bad fuse or (R22), Shorted capacitor, power IC (integrated circuit) and so on.

Ageing Factor: Though bitter truth, no phone lives for ever! A phone will finally be laid to

Are There Possible Solutions To Phone Power Problem?

Frankly speaking, when it comes to solution to power problem, there is no one clear cut
way to achieve this. The only way we know for now that is working for us is the “ancient
path”, called “troubleshooting”, so if you are ready to fix that power problem, you will have
to get ready for “shooting with your weapon”. Oh, don’t get it wrong, the weapon am
talking about is your problem finding tool. That is why you can’t be a successful phone
technician if you have not mastered the art of using the multi-meter and other machines
meant for this purpose.

Some problems referred to as power problems are really not power problems per-say, but
just a minor switch problem. A switch problem just needs one to fix or replace a damaged
switch. There is no point saying a phone has power problem when it charges as you plug it
to electricity using a good charger.

How To Troubleshoot Power Problems In Mobile Phones

Dead phone power problem is a common phenomenon. The main goal of troubleshooting a
mobile phone is to proffer solution. To troubleshoot properly, ask the following questions
as if you are a Medical Doctor attending to a patient:

Did the problem happen shortly after buying a new phone? Then go for claims of warranty.
Due to faulty production, one could get a form of compensation.

Find out if it was caused by water or other liquid substances aside the ones that don’t
conduct electric current. If it was caused by water as the case is mostly, locate the areas
affected and clean up using a cleansing agent like ethanol-alcohol or menthylated spirit
which dries up quickly. After being heated with the rework-station or sun to dry up, the
phone should power on if it’s a minor case otherwise you will have to keep checking for

Find out if it was caused by a bad or faulty charger. To do this, use the multi-meter to check
if the current the charger supplies is above 5.0v and 2500mAh (2.5Amps). If the current
voltage on the meter is unstable, that’s a signal to watch. Look for the power diode close to
the battery terminal area where you see points like VBat, BSI, GND and so on. Shorted
power diode could cause power problem if affected by chargers or other causes. A normal
power diode in many cases should allow current flow in one direction and not back and
forth. If causes a short, replace the shorted diode or strike it out.

Find out if the phone was previously flashed: If you have found out that the phone went
dead after a flash, simply get the right firmware and re-flash back. If you don’t know what
flashing is all about, you can learn about software level repair here and that could help in
resolving the problem.

Does Wi-Fi Consume More Battery Power

Phone geeks have argued about whether or not Wi-Fi consumes more battery power than
3G or 4G/LTE since the birth of the modern smartphone. Some will swear that Wi-Fi is the
only way to go. Others say that leaving Wi-Fi off and connecting to the 3G or 4G wireless
network works best. But, no matter which side of the fence you’re on, both Wi-Fi and
3G/4G can be considered better or worse for precious battery life depending on the
situation.

Most devices automatically shut 3G and 4G off when they are connected via Wi-Fi. When
connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device will consume significantly less battery power. It’s
especially true with 4G, since the technology consumes a large amount of power.

Why Does 4G Really Drain Your Battery So Much?

Ask anybody, including the people working for your wireless provider “Why does 4G drain
the battery so fast?”, and you’ll most likely get a response like, “It’s more powerful, so of
course it uses more power.”  Well, that isn’t entirely true. It’s way more complex than that,
and none of the reasons really have anything to do with the 4G technology itself.

 Currently, wireless providers such as Verizon Wireless have setup their 4G/LTE enabled

So really, 4G is not to blame for your phone needing a charge four times a day. It’s the
archaic way the devices and network are configured. Off course, it’s probably configured

What Can I do to Save Battery Life?

However, if your device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network, it’s best that Wi-Fi be
disabled and that you utilize a data connection from your wireless network. Otherwise your
device will constantly search for a Wi-Fi connection and kill your battery in the process.

If your device is not in range of Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G, it’s best you put your phone into
Airplane Mode until you have coverage again. The constant searching your device does for
a signal is what drains power the most.
So summing up, for conserving battery power do the following:

1. Try to stay connected to a Wi-Fi network for best results.

2. When you can’t connect via Wi-Fi, disable it.
3. When you can’t connect to anything, enable Airplane Mode.

hear someone calling you from the other end during a phone call no matter how much your
caller screams out loud so you could hear him or her?  The earpiece problem in a mobile
phone makes it impossible for a receiver to hear what is being communicated from the
callers end.  The problem could among others be caused by any of the following: 

Causes Of Phone Earpiece problem

1. High/Low resistance value
2. Oxidation
3. Bad/partial contact
4. Short or open circuit

High/Low resistance value

The resistance value of an ideal earpiece should be within the range of 25 to 35 Ohms using
the Ohms meter. A higher value will result in low output while a lower resistance value will
result in higher output. Note also that when the output of an earpiece is too high its
dangerous to ones hearing. So the earpiece should be kept within range.

Oxidation
This happens when the earpiece region has become moist and covered with some dirty

the oxidized surface with alcohol Isopropyl or menthylated spirit using a tooth brush could

An earpiece problem could sometimes be associated with bad contact issues. It could be
partially  or even totally disconnected from the earpiece connector or socket. All you will
need to do here is to make little adjustment and move on.

Short or open circuit

This is sometimes difficult to sort out as it requires trouble shooting using the multi-meter
to find out open or short circuits. Remember that a short is caused either by a bridging or a
faulty component like capacitor, a diode, ICs etc while an open circuit is caused by a
missing path or a broken path. In solving this problem, all you need is to use your multi-
meter to detect the faulty areas around the earpiece region and replace or make wire
[jumper] connection as the case may require.

The problem sometimes could be caused by faulty audio IC which needs reheating or
replacement with the equivalent value. If the problem is complicated, then you will need to
get the block diagram for proper troubleshooting.

Tampered settings
The earpiece problem could sometimes be as a result of a tampered settings. To know if the
problem is setting related, just do this trick: try making a call and then locate your volume
up button and try increasing the volume, if you see that the volume improves, then the
problem is solved!

After reading through this article, you will be properly equipped with the right information
with which to tackle this monstrous problem. Unlike the laptop computers whose charging
port is bigger and stronger, the mobile phones usb/charging port are somehow fragile, and
as a result they often get damaged after a prolonged usage. However they can also be fixed
or repaired to function well as normal as possible.

Charging And USB Pins 

Charging problem solution is easier when you understand some basics. The usb/charging
port of most mobile phones have five pins, the first and the last pins are called Vbus/Vchg
[the positive terminal that takes in 5.0 volts] and the GND [Ground which is the negative
terminal that takes in 0 volt] when any of these two pins are broken or have partial or total
disconnection, a charging issue will be experienced and this will normally call for a

times in the reverse order e.g D+ comes before D-. The one after DP and DM is the fifth
one that is just there: meaning that you don’t really need to bother about it.

Procedure For Fixing A USB/Charging Port Problem

Fixing a USB/charging port could be sometimes complicated and challenging, but in some
cases its very easy to sort out. The following could be responsible for charging problem in a
mobile phone:  

 Corrosion
 Bad pins/port
 Complete/partial contact
  Faulty internal charging components

Corrosion
USB charging port could be internally corroded and blocked by unwanted particles, in such
case a replacement or servicing becomes necessary. Replacing a USB charging port will
require the use of a special machine called the SMD Rework Station, but there are some
charging port that comes with a separate sub panel e.g Samsung Note series 1, 2, 3 etc
Infinix Note series phones, most Tecno android phones e.g. W series and others just to
mention but few. The point here is that if your phone’s charging port is the type that comes
with a connector point like the ones in the image below, it is easier for you to do it yourself
though most people are afraid to do some simple stuff because they are afraid they might
get something bad! Well, in that case you could get an experienced mobile phone
technician. 

Bad pins/port
A charging port must be replaced with a good one once you notice that it has gone bad. The
signs includes: an internal or external broken pin[s], an extra large port opening. A broken
pin, e.g the vbus/vchg will always result in difficulty in charging. On the other hand, an
enlarged port will either make your phone charge on an off because the port has become
slacked as a result of wear and tear, you can adjust an enlarged port, but for a broken
internal or external pin, you will have to replace completely.
Complete/partial contact
A complete or partial contact could be responsible for complete or partial phone not
charging problem. In the case of a phone using a sub-charging panel, simply replace it with
a new one, this is even easy because it only need you connecting it to the main panel
through the main board socket, but if the phone’s charging port is the surface mount type,
you would need a professional rework station to do that, so if you can’t lay your hands on
that, simply get an experience phone technician.

Faulty Internal Charging Components

The charging problem could also be traced to a faulty or bad charging ICs, resistors, diodes,
capacitors, transistor switch etc. The charging components comes in different shapes, sizes
and values for some specific phones, so you might therefore need to study the phone
schematic diagrams to be able to differentiate one from the other.
Power charging diode could be shorted: The charging diode allows the flow of 5.0 volts
coming from your phone’s charger to pass through into the charging circuit just in one
direction, so if things go wrong, the diode could be internally damaged thereby making it
act as if it were a fuse, this condition can even result in several chargers being burnt if not
quickly detected, you could also notice the phone going off when charger is being inserted
while sometimes the problem could even be from the CPU. When the charging issue is
traceable to the phone’s Central Processing Unit, you would be working at own risk if the

This is really a huge challenge for all of us because you can see companies everywhere
advertising their "battery fact" as rated capacity and what they are really doing is
perpetuating the "battery myth" that disposable batteries have a greater actual or available
capacity than rechargeable batteries.

The actual or available capacity for a battery is way more important to actual usage but is
also more complex to determine, because it really depends on what you are using the
batteries for. (For more detail see battery terms page - "actual capacity".)

For most high drain electronic devices, like digital cameras, rechargeable batteries will
continue to work much longer than alkaline batteries. In fact, in devices like digital
cameras, NiMH batteries will run on a single charge for 3-4 times as long as they would on
an alkaline battery. Look at this chart of a brand name alkaline battery and a high capacity
NiMH battery both set up in a computerized battery analyzer and subjected to a high drain
rate of 500 mA.

You can see that the NiMH battery lasts WAY longer than the poor old alkaline battery
when subjected to this high discharge rate.

Heavy Duty, Super Heavy Duty, High Capacity, Quick Charger, Rapid Charger, Ultra,
Long Life, etc.

Since there are no real industry standards, many terms used by battery manufacturers have
become misleading marketing hype.

"Heavy Duty" batteries are often the least powerful batteries you can buy and some "quick
chargers" can take as long as seven hours to recharge a set of batteries!
I believe these terms didn't start out as misleading. For example the term Heavy Duty
battery was used to refer to Zinc chloride batteries which had about 50% more capacity
than traditional carbon zinc batteries. But that was 50 years ago! Calling zinc chloride
batteries heavy duty became misleading once alkaline batteries with 300% more capacity
than zinc chloride batteries became available.

A similar situation happened with battery chargers. Originally NiCd battery chargers took
anywhere from 12-24 hours to recharge NiCd cells. Later, chargers that could recharge
NiCd cells in half that time were introduced. Unfortunately, calling these chargers "quick
chargers" was a real disservice to the rechargeable battery industry. Anyone that purchased
NiCd cells and a "Quick charger" only to realize later that a quick charge took seven hours
must have been very disappointed. I know I was.

The good news is that it's now possible to buy a battery charger that can recharge batteries
in less than two hours, and in some cases even as fast as one hour or less!!

Battery capacity ratings are meaningless when used to compare different types of batteries
or to compare the capacity of batteries powering different types of devices.

This means that you may not be able to predict how long your electronic device will run
just by looking at the capacity rating of a battery. For example AA alkaline batteries
typically have a capacity rating of over 2,500 mAh and AA NiMH batteries have rated
capacities of only 1,200 to 1,900 mAh. But when it comes to actually powering an
electronic device like a digital camera, the NiMH batteries will often run the device for
three or four times as long.

Unfortunately, even comparing the capacity ratings of similar types of batteries won't
always work because different manufacturers often measure battery capacity in slightly
different ways.

Putting batteries in the freezer or refrigerator doesn't necessarily prolong their life
Alkaline batteries stored at "room temperature" self discharge at a rate of less than two
percent per year.  So normally refrigerating or freezing them will only help maintain their
charge by a tiny amount.  Hardly worth the effort of chilling them.  However, if alkaline
batteries are stored at higher temperatures they will start to lose capacity much quicker.  At
85 degrees F they only lose about 5% per year, but at 100 degrees they lose 25% per year. 
So if you live in a very hot climate or are storing your batteries in a very hot location, it
may be worthwhile for you to store your alkaline batteries in a refrigerator instead.

NiMH and NiCd batteries self discharge at a MUCH faster rate than alkaline batteries.  In
fact, at "room temperature" (about 70 degrees F) NiMH and NiCD batteries will self
discharge a few percent PER DAY.  Storing them at lower temperatures will slow their self
discharge rate dramatically.  NiMH batteries stored at freezing will retain over 90% of their
charge for  full month. So it might make sense to store them in a freezer.  If you do, it's best
to bring them back to room temperature before using them. Even if you don't freeze your
NiMH batteries after charging them, you should store them in a cool place to minimize
their self discharge.

Quick charging NiMH batteries will reduce their life.

For practical purposes with batteries that are designed to be quick charged, for example,
Sanyo, GP, Maha, Energizer, that is not true. It is important to use a battery charger that has
been specifically designed to rapid charge NiMH cells. Actually there is a much greater
likely hood of reducing the life of a NiMH battery by using an "overnight" charger than by
using a smart fast charger.  Overnight chargers rely on the fact that you will unplug them
after a number of hours.  If you forget to unplug them they can continue to charge the
batteries longer than they should.  Overcharging WILL reduce the life of batteries. From a
strictly technical sense, a battery that is always slow charged will likely last a little longer
than one that is always rapid charged.  However, the difference is so small that it is not
likely to be noticeable for most  users.

Assigning capacities to batteries can be very tricky, that's probably why you don't see
capacity ratings marked on most alkaline batteries.  When powering high drain electronic
devices like digital cameras, computer peripherals, or portable music players, an alkaline
battery will only deliver a small fraction of its rated capacity.  A NiMH or NiCd battery is
likely to deliver much closer to its rated capacity when it's powering high drain devices.
This means that a NiMH battery with a rated capacity of 1800 mAh can take many more
photos than an alkaline battery with a rated capacity of 2,800 mAh.

Does Wi-Fi Consume More Battery Power

Than 3G or 4G/LTE?

Phone geeks have argued about whether or not Wi-Fi consumes more battery power than
3G or 4G/LTE since the birth of the modern smartphone. Some will swear that Wi-Fi is the
only way to go. Others say that leaving Wi-Fi off and connecting to the 3G or 4G wireless
network works best. But, no matter which side of the fence you’re on, both Wi-Fi and
3G/4G can be considered better or worse for precious battery life depending on the
situation.

Most devices automatically shut 3G and 4G off when they are connected via Wi-Fi. When
connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device will consume significantly less battery power. It’s
especially true with 4G, since the technology consumes a large amount of power.

Why Does 4G Really Drain Your Battery So Much?

Ask anybody, including the people working for your wireless provider “Why does 4G drain
the battery so fast?”, and you’ll most likely get a response like, “It’s more powerful, so of
course it uses more power.”  Well, that isn’t entirely true. It’s way more complex than that,
and none of the reasons really have anything to do with the 4G technology itself.

 Currently, wireless providers such as Verizon Wireless have setup their 4G/LTE enabled
devices to connect to both the 3G and 4G networks simultaneously. That means your
phone is working twice as hard to maintain a connection, and therefore using twice as
much power to maintain a connection.
 Whenever you make calls or send and recieve a text messages, the 3G radio has to pause.
This changing of radio states causes an extreme strain on the battery.
 When you are traveling, your wireless device has to constantly switch towers to keep you
connected to the network. This is called “handover”. With the way Verizon has things
configured (LTE to EV-DO) the handover drains your battery faster than it would with a
4G/LTE only connection.
So really, 4G is not to blame for your phone needing a charge four times a day. It’s the
archaic way the devices and network are configured. Off course, it’s probably configured
that way for a reason none of us would understand. Anyway, read page 5 of the “What is

What Can I do to Save Battery Life?

However, if your device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network, it’s best that Wi-Fi be
disabled and that you utilize a data connection from your wireless network. Otherwise your
device will constantly search for a Wi-Fi connection and kill your battery in the process.

If your device is not in range of Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G, it’s best you put your phone into
Airplane Mode until you have coverage again. The constant searching your device does for
a signal is what drains power the most.

So summing up, for conserving battery power do the following:

1. Try to stay connected to a Wi-Fi network for best results.

2. When you can’t connect via Wi-Fi, disable it.
3. When you can’t connect to anything, enable Airplane Mode.

have no intention of using them.

performance, try installing Facebook Lite and Messenger Lite. The downside to the light

most important ones.

2. Snapchat

You definitely have fun with the face swap feature and all the filter Snapchat has to offer,
but this app is killing your phone. Many users have reported an important battery boost
after uninstalling the app, and so have I.

Not only does Snapchat slow down your phone’s performance, but it will take up 4GB just
to install the app itself. Now, that’s a lot of space. If you don’t want to give up Snapchat,
there is something you can do to save on resources at least while you are using it.
Go to the app’s Settings and below Additional Services select Manage. Toggle on Travel
Mode. Since you’re going to have travel mode on, you will need to tap on your display to
load the content.

3. Musical.ly

Musical.ly is a top-rated app for many aspiring music stars since it allows you to create
music videos from your smartphone. It may offer you the opportunity to get discovered but
it will also eat your resources in the process.

The app naturally consumes resources in the background but not as much as when you’re
using the app. If you don’t want to give up on your music career, you can always install
Musical.ly Lite. The light app will use fewer data and resources.

4. Google Maps

Google Maps shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when it comes to hogging resources.
One of the apps main features is always to know where you are even if you’re not using the
app. You can help limit its resource hogging need by turning off GPS, Google Access
Location, clear data & cache, or just disabling for the time you know you’re not going to be
using it.

5. Any News App

Since a news app primary purpose is to keep you updated on the latest news, it’s no surprise

You installed Tinder because you want to meet people, but that comes at a price. Since
Tinder continually tracks your location and refreshes data, it will continue to work even if
you’re using another app.

There are things you can do to keep the app under control such as not being always active
and turn off Tinder’s background refresh. If you think you can do without the constant

browser as well.

7. Amazon Shopping

Amazon is a great place to do your shopping, but the app on your phone may not be worth
it due to the resource hogging. The app is continuously working in the background because

You can bet that this is one of the leading culprits as to why your battery doesn’t last as
long as before. The Amazon Shopping app is no better than the online site, so go ahead and
uninstall the app and access it through your browser.

8. Instagram

Instagram is the most popular place for picture lovers, but the app just might end that bond.

(among other things).

You can keep Instagram under control by turning off the notifications, turning down data,

When you’re new to your Android phone, you may not know the phone number to the
device. Heck! You never have to use your own phone number, right? Fortunately, there is a
way to view the phone number assigned to your Android phone within the settings.

Option 1

The location may vary depending on your version of the Android OS. For many versions,
you can use these steps.
 1. From the Home screen, open “Settings“.
2. Scroll down and select “About phone” or “About device“. Some versions of Android
display the phone number on this screen. If not, proceed to step 3.
3. Select “Status” or “Phone identity“.

Your phone number should be displayed on the screen. On some devices, it may be listed
under “Voice MSISDN Line 1” or “SIM card status“.

1. Open the “Messages” app.

list of them here.  They include but are not limited to the following:


o Production Fault: Production related faults are one out of many possible causes

To be precise, when it comes to LCD display solution, there is no one clear cut way to
achieve this. The only way we know for now that is working for us is the “ancient path”,
we call “troubleshooting”, so if you are ready to fix that screen display problem, you will
have to get ready for “shooting with your weapon”. Oh, don’t get it wrong, the weapon am
talking about is your problem finding tool. That is why you can’t be a successful phone
technician if you have not mastered the art of using the multi-meter and other machines
meant for this purpose.

After a good troubleshooting, one will be able to find out the cause of the problem and
possible solutions. If it’s a production fault, make claims of warranty. If the problem is
associated with internal components like stated in no 4 above, you will have to do the
checks and replacements accordingly. If you found out that it was a water damage use your
cleansing agent to clean up preferably cleansing alcohol or menthylated spirit as it dries up
easily. A rework station will speed up the drying process and the phone should display
again if it’s a minor case. If you discover that it was caused by a corrupt or wrong firmware
do flash in the correct original firmware that is compatible as flashing a wrong variant will
normal result in display issues!

Ever wondered why your Android phone’s screen goes completely dark during calls?

Well, that’s a question that’s been bugging many users. In this guide, we’re going to
explain to you why that happens.

Android Phone Screen Turning Off During Calls

Your phone screen goes off during calls because the proximity sensor detected an
obstruction. This is intended behavior to prevent you from accidentally pressing any
buttons when you hold the phone against your ear.
Check your screen protection and the proximity sensor

If the screen blacks out randomly, you may want to check your screen protector if you’re
using one. If you placed the screen protector on the proximity sensor, it will interfere with
it.

Some users suggested that briefly touching the proximity sensor should help the screen
come back to life.

Also, if the sensor glass is covered in smudges, skin oil or makeup that could also cause the
phone screen to go black. Clearing the screen and the sensor with a soft cloth should solve
the problem.
Use AndroSensor

Some users were able to work their way around this issue by installing AndroSensor. This
app is a versatile diagnostic tool that constantly monitors your device’s status.

You can also use it to control your phone’s sensors. Set the proximity sensor to off and you
should be able to control your screen during calls.

Update your device

While for some users, updating their phone to a newer Android version was the element
that caused this problem in the first place, for other users, updating their device actually
solved the problem.
Go to Settings → About Phone → Check for Updates.

If there’s any known proximity sensor glitch, chances are the problem has already been
fixed in newer Android versions.

Backup your data and reset the phone

If this glitch becomes really annoying, you can reset your Android phone to factory
settings. If the issue is caused by corrupted system files or other operating system glitches,
resetting your device should fix them.

Just make sure to backup your data first as this action will wipe out absolutely all the data
stored on your device.

Go to Settings → System →  Reset options →  Erase all data (also known as a factory
reset).
If you own a Samsung device, go to Settings → General Management → Reset →
Factory data reset.

Of course, you can also turn off the proximity sensor by going to Settings → System or
System apps →  Call settings → Disable the proximity sensor.

⇒ Note: These steps might be slightly different depending on your Android version and
phone model.

If you can’t find the proximity sensor settings, you can use AndroSensor to disable the
sensor.

However, we don’t recommend disabling the sensor because you may accidentally touch
different buttons with your ear or cheek while holding the phone against your ear.

Of course, that won’t be a problem if you use your phone’s speaker to answer incoming
calls.
Does RAM Speed Matter?

RAM manufacturers are pushing DDR4 RAM speeds ever higher. But there’s conflicting
information about what RAM speeds can really do for you. In reality, there are four main
factors in how RAM affects your system performance: capacity, number of channels,
speed, and timings.

Tip: RAM or Random-Access Memory, is a type of fast memory that is used to store the
data of programs that are currently running. RAM is a lot faster than HDDs or even SSDs,
but it can only store data while your PC is still powered on.

Capacity

For any system to run you need RAM, the absolute minimum amount of RAM required for
Windows 10 is 2GB. It’s highly recommended that you get more than that though, as you
will have a very bad experience. 8GB of RAM should be considered the basic amount but
16GB is recommended. With 16GB of RAM, you never have to worry about running out
when playing games and having a few chrome tabs open.

Tip: GB, or gigabyte, is a standard unit of measurement for storage capacity. 1 gigabyte is
one billion bytes.

Having too little RAM will slow your computer down, but with a minimum of 8GB of
RAM, you should have enough for most situations.

Number of channels

RAM can run in single-, dual-, triple-, or quad-channel modes, although you’ll need to
match the number of channels to the number of sticks of RAM. Theoretically, quad-channel
RAM should have double the bandwidth of dual-channel RAM, however, in the real world,
you’ll find minimal performance difference between dual- and quad-channel memory.

If your CPU and Motherboard both support only dual-channel you should only purchase
dual-channel RAM, such as two 4 GB or 8 GB sticks of RAM as this is the optimal
configuration. If your CPU and motherboard support quad-channel RAM, however, you
can be a bit more flexible. Two sticks of RAM will only run in dual channel mode, halving
your theoretical bandwidth, but assuming you would have purchased the same total
capacity, you have more RAM slots free for potential future upgrades.

Tip: You should never mix RAM speeds. If you upgrade your RAM at a later date, it is
recommended that you either entirely replace your RAM or purchase another identical kit.
Installing mismatched RAM can cause system instability and will force the faster RAM to
run at the slower speeds.

Speed

RAM speed is measured in MHz, or megahertz, which means millions of cycles per second.
The fastest JDEC standard DDR4 RAM speed is 2132MHz, everything that offers a speed
above that is overclocked, with a feature called XMP. XMP, or extreme memory profile,
allows a RAM manufacturer to specify faster speeds and timings for its RAM.

The fastest available RAM as of July 2020 is a 5000MHz 2x 8GB kit from Corsair. In
benchmark tests, specifically aimed at testing RAM you’ll find that a 3000MHz RAM kit
will perform with roughly 3/5ths the speed of the 5000MHz kit. In the real world, however,
the performance difference will be much less noticeable. Faster RAM will help your
applications load faster, but you will not see anything like a 66% performance boost. In
terms of price to performance, the ideal is somewhere around 2800MHz to 3200MHz.
Tip: If you do purchase XMP RAM, make sure that you enable XMP in your BIOS. XMP is
not enabled by default, if you don’t enable it, you won’t see the performance that you paid
for.

Timings

Another factor in RAM speed is the timings, they are generally shown in the format 16-18-
18-36. There are many different timing factors and decreasing any of them helps to increase
your performance. The single most effective timing value to change though is CAS Latency
or CL.

CAS stands for Column Address Strobe, CAS Latency refers to the exact number of cycles
between the RAM being sent a column address and the response with the first bit of data. A
lower value means lower latency, but this is also reliant on the clock speed of the RAM. In
the real world, slightly faster RAM timings will make an almost imperceptible difference.

All in all RAM speed can provide an improvement to RAM specific benchmark tests,
however, in real-world scenarios, you’re not likely to find much performance improvement,
and could likely better spend the money on a faster CPU or GPU.

If you’re looking at buying a new SSD, you may see that some SSDs are more expensive
than others. Obviously, the biggest factor in the price is the capacity of the SSD with larger
SSDs being more expensive. Another important factor in the price is the speed of an SSD
but it can be hard to tell what the advertised speeds really mean and if they will really affect
you.

How is SSD speed measured?

There are four main measurements that are used to compare storage performance:
sequential read, sequential write, random 4K read, and random 4K write. Together these are
intended to test the SSDs read and write performance when dealing with both small and
large files.

The sequential read and write tests show the performance when reading and writing a single
large file, this is comparable to the real-world scenario of accessing a large video file. The
random 4K read and write tests show the SSDs performance when accessing a number of
smaller files of 4KiB randomly located on the drive. The random 4K tests are designed to
represent more common real-world usage such as opening documents or loading a video
game

Tip: KiB or the kibibyte is a unit of measurement for data size, with one kibibyte being
1024 Bytes and 4KiB being 4096 bytes. Kibi is a standard prefix from the IEC
(International Electrotechnical Commission) it’s designed to take into account that in
binary, the SI (Système international, or international system) prefix of Kilo (1000) is not a
whole number. Using kibibytes rather than kilobytes clarifies the measurement of file and
drive sizes. The scale continues mirrored with the SI prefixes kilo, mega, tera, peta, exa,
zetta, and yotta, in the form kibi, mebi, gibi, tebi, pebi, exbi, zebi, and yobi. 1024 kibibytes
make up a mebibyte, 1024 mebibytes make up a gibibyte and so on. The shorthand prefix is
always the same as the equivalent SI prefix but places a lower case “i” afterwards e.g. Mi
for mebi, instead of M for mega.

Speed comparison

The following table compares the performance of a high-end HDD, a high-end SATA SSD,
and a high-end PCIe SSD, using average data from the user benchmarking site
userbenchmark.com. This site was used as a data source as all hard drives were tested with
the same software and settings, while the average measurement helps to prevent the cherry-
picking of results.

The drives listed below are the Western Digital Gold 12TB HDD (2017) which spins at
7200RPM, the Samsung 860 Evo 1TB SATA SSD (2018), and the Samsung 970 Evo PCIe
SSD (2018). All results are in the unit MB/s or megabytes per second.

The results of this comparison clearly show that, as expected, SSDs are faster than HDDs
and NVMe SSDs are faster than SATA SSDs. The difference between the two types of
SSD is the transport bus that it is connected to.
Tip: You can think of the transport bus as a logical connector or as a communications
protocol.

SATA is the same transport bus as used by HDDs and is limited to speeds of 600MB/s.
PCIe is a different transport bus that allows a much higher transfer speed. The standard
PCIe generation 3 bus allows a speed of up to 3900MB/s with the newer gen4 version
supporting up to 7800 MB/s

As you can see from the results, all of the speeds increase across the board, in the real
world this translates to faster boot times, faster copying of large numbers of files, faster
reading/writing of large files, faster virus scans, and faster loading times in video games.
All of these scenarios can take advantage of the faster speeds associated with both large and
small files.

In terms of other common daily tasks, you won’t notice much difference when opening
most small programs, browsing the internet, word processing, playing music, or viewing
photographs. These activities don’t use the hard drive much and so will see very little
performance increase from a faster SSD.

Overall, you’ll have to decide if you perform enough SSD intensive activities to warrant
paying more for a faster SSD. The difference between a fast and a slower SSD can
absolutely be noticeable, but only with certain types of workloads.
Slow Down or Speed up WhatsApp Audio

When you have little to say, or you have some time to spare, you’ll go ahead and type out
your WhatsApp message. But, when it’s just faster to get your message across in an audio
message, you don’t hesitate to use that option.

But, when you get an audio message with the info you need to write down, it can be
annoying when the person says the information too fast that you can’t write it all out. This
only makes you have to listen to the audio again, and this can be annoying, especially when
the audio message is a long one.

How to Speed up or Slow down WhatsApp Audios

To control the speed of your WhatsApp audios, you’re going to need an app called
TalkFaster. The app has a simple interface that won’t confuse you with too many features.
It gets the job done by giving you different options on how fast or slow your WhatsApp
audios play.
When you first launch the app, it’ll take you through a brief tutorial on how to use the app.
When you’re done going through the instructions, the final step will be to try out the app so
it’ll open WhatsApp for you.

Open the chat that contains the audio you want to try out and long-press on the audio to
select it. Tap on the share icon and choose the TalkFaster app.

When the audio opens in the TalkFaster, the audio will start playing at an average speed. If
you want to audio to play slower, choose the option X0.75, X1.00, or X1.25. To speed
things up a little, select the option to the right; X1.75 or X2.00.
You’ll see an option to pause the audio, and at the bottom right, there’s an option to sleep
the parts where the person is not speaking. This option comes in handy if the person that’s
sending you the audio has the tendency of pausing way too much before they pick up on an
idea.

When you’re done using the app, it the main page it’ll show you how much time you saved
by listening to the audio using TalkFaster and not at an average speed on WhatsApp. On
the app, there’s no option to remove the ad that you’ll see when playing the audio. Usually,
apps have an option to remove ads by buying the ad-free version.
