3. INSTRUCTION-LEARNING PROCESS
DO FIRST:
The students will come into the classroom and turn in the homework from last
night. On the white board, there will be a 3-word problems that the students
will have to solve. The word problems will be simple multiplication and division
problems and include some of the student's names.
I will give the students about 5 minutes to complete the problems, and if they
have any problems, they can ask for help from a classmate or myself.
After the time is up, I will go over the problems and answers with the
students. At that time, I will also explain to them that today we will be
working on doing word problems.
I will select a few students to had out fake paper money. I had previously
printed out and lamented to use during the lesson. I will also ask the students
to take at their notebooks.
• To start the lesson I will play a video by Khan Academy
about writing equations that are in word problems.
• After watching the video, I’ll explain how to write an
equation step by step to the students. Explain to the
students that's it's a three-step process on how to solve
3. the word problems. I will also pass out an equation that
INSTRUCTION- the students will write the steps under.
LEARNING
PROCESS
• Those steps are to define a variable, constant, and total
MINI-LESSON amount, write the equation, and solve for the answer.
• I will use a part of a PowerPoint to also explain more on
how to solve and write the equations. Slides 20-22
• To help students with kinesthetic learning styles I will
use a bean bag to toss the student if they have a
question. I will first ask if anyone has a question.

LEARNING
PROCESS
1. Find the variables, constant, and total amount.
GUIDED x=how many cards Sandra can sell the cards are $3 each
PRACTICE $80 is the total amount she paid
2. Write the equation. 3x =80
3. Solve for x 3x =80
/3 /3
x=26.3
To make a profit Sandra must at least sell 27 cards

GUIDED PRACTICE
Lucy started a new job at the grocery store. She currently makes $9 per hour.
She wants to know how many hours she must work to get paid $180. Write the
equation and solve.
1. Find the variables, constant, and total amount.
x= how many hour she work she gets paid $9 per hour the total is $180
2. Write the equation. 9x=180
3. Solve 9x=180
/9 /9
x=20
Lucy must work 20 hours to make $180.

GUIDED PRACTICE
Max wants to buy new shoes. He budgets himself to spending only $80. The online
store has a shipping price of $7 per purchase . All the shoes on the website cost
$21. How many pairs of shoes can Max buy without going over his budget? Write
the equation and solve.
1. Find the variables, constant, and total amount. x=how many shoes Max can buy
the shoes are $21 each the $7 shipping price $80 is the total
2. Write the equation. 21x+7=80
3. Solve. 21x+7=80 Round x to the lower amount because he wants
-7 -7 to stay under budget
21x =73 Answer: 3 shoes
/21 /21
x =3.48

2. I think students will enjoy lessons more when you incorporate them into the lessons. I can do this by
using the student's names in word problems. I can also incorporate them by using the bean bag method
5.
answering questions. This will keep the students engaged into what each person is asking. Also using the
money will show students are engaged and focused on the assignment.
REFLECTION
3. Some of the strengths in this lesson plan is that you can use some of the students to engage them. I also
like the bean bag method because it focuses on one single at a time. Another strength is that using
worksheets I can keep track on how the students are doing in the classroom if they're focused or not. I can
also see if the students need more help on the lesson. I also like the use of paper money because students
can visualize how much money they have. I think peer discussion is also important because students can
learn from each other. In weakness in this lesson plan is that I rely on videos to teach for me. Also it's hard
to find worksheets that set the Common Core needs.
4. I practice my ITASC standards by incorporating peer-review and pure discussions in the lesson plan. This
is so that students can learn from each other as well as having social interactions. Word problems also
solve issues in different ways. And you can look at word problems in different perspective by creating your
own instead of using textbooks.
