1. DATES
Course Practice : Future XCO is open daily. Day Pass to be purchased at : R40 per person.
Race : Saturday 11th of June from 8:00.

4. COURSE DEMARCATION & RACE VILLAGE PREPARATION


➢ XCO Provincial : Sub Junior to Grand Master (3.8km / 147m elevation)
➢ XCO Provincial Short Course : Nippers & Sprogs as well as Sub Junior Girls - will race on a
section of the same Provincial course (2.5km / 60m elevation). A-line at Van der Poel Drop
is CLOSED for the Sprogs, Nippers and Sub Junior Girls. Eden A-line TBA Friday 5pm.
➢ XCO Lite : all ages – Separate course specially marked with XCO Lite boards (2km / 42m
elevation)
➢ The courses are temporarily marked and will be fully marked by Saturday the 11th of June.
➢ The race village will be completed by Saturday 11th of June.
➢ Start and Finish for all three courses is in the same area, next to the parking.
➢ XCO Provincial and XCO Lite each have their own tech/feed zone, separate Start and Finish
areas as well as separate timing.

5. RACE ENTRY & REGISTRATION
➢ Online Entries only : www.cyclingsa-events.co.za
➢ Entries close : Wednesday 7th of June.
➢ Registration & Number board collection : at the bike park on Saturday the 9th of April from
06:30 till 13:00
➢ XCO Provincial Entry fee includes a free pair of Sox for pre-entries only.
➢ XCO Lite entries have the option of purchasing a pair of Bespoke Sox when pre-entering
online only.
➢ Cycling SA Membership required for XCO Provincial
➢ Cycling SA Day Licence required for XCO Lite – if you are going to race more than 4 events
this year, it will be more cost effective to purchase a CSA Membership which is valid for a
huge amount of sanctioned events like Trailseekers, Summer Fast One etc.

6. RACE SCHEDULE

7. COVID PROTOCOLS
➢ Disaster Management Act regulations must be adhered to.
➢ All persons entering the race village must undergo screening and have their temperatures
taken by the Covid Officer.
➢ All persons entering the race village must sanitize their hands. Sanitizing stations will be
available around the race village.
➢ Starting grids with social distancing to be applied.

8. SPECTATORS
➢ Allowed – Disaster Management Act
Regulations must be adhered to and all Covid
Protocols as stated above, must be observed.
➢ Bring your bells, vuvuzelas and old rims…..to
make loads of noise to encourage our riders –
time to get some proper South Africa XCO
vibe going 😊 and show our European
counterparts what we are made of 😊😊

9. THE MONTE DOME
➢ The Race Village are will be in and around the
magnificent Monte De Dios Dome.
➢ Chairs will be provided for use under the dome so no
need to bring extra gazebos and camping chairs 😊
➢ There will be a great selection of drinks available:
freshly ground coffees and cappuccinos; soft drinks;
milkshakes; beers; ciders; gin; fresh juices &
smoothies
➢ Great Vibes Guaranteed !!!

10. FOOD & DRINKS
➢ Great food will be on available from the onsite coffee shop, Cara Bella including wood
burning oven pizzas.

11. BIKE SHOP
➢ Future Bike Shop will be open for emergency bike repairs.

12. MEDICAL SERVICES
➢ Provided by Life Med – 2 ILS medics ; 2 BLS medics ; 2 ILS ambulances will be on site.

13. TECHNICAL / FEED ZONE


➢ A Technical / Feed zone is available for each course.
➢ All persons in the Tech / Feed zone must adhere to Covid-19 Protocols at all times.
➢ Only one assistant per rider allowed in the Tech / Feed zone and only while the rider is
racing.
➢ All CSA rules apply – riders and assistants must familarise themselves with these rules.
Commissaires will disqualify riders if rules are not adhered to.
➢ Special care must be taken by assistants when entering or exiting the Tech / Feed zone.
No crossing of the race line is permitted. Crossing of the race line to access the Tech /
➢ This is a neutral zone and any gazebos setup in this area are for the use of all.

14. TECHNICAL / FEED ZONE RULES & REGULATIONS – NB

Riders and assistants who do not adhere to these rules and regulations can be disqualified.

Feeding
1. During feeding physical contact between feeders and riders is allowed.
2. It is NOT permitted for a feeder to place water bottles onto the bike, and/or place food and water
bottles in the rider's pockets. All food and bottles must be handed to the rider - considered illegal
technical assistance.
3. Feeding or Technical Assistance is only permitted from one point in a particular feed zone and having
a second or multiple feed points for any one rider is forbidden. The Chief Commissaire may however
give permission for a second feed point to be established in a feed zone if the circumstances justify it
e.g., exceedingly hot weather.
4. No rider may turn back on the course to reach a feeding/technical assistance zone. Once past the
feed/tech zone a rider must follow the course until the next feed/tech zone before receiving external
feeding or external technical assistance. NO BACK TRACKING IS PERMITTED.
5. It is forbidden for feeders to run beside their riders in the feed zone.
6. Water bottles being discarded by riders in the feed zone will be done so in a safe manner and the
throwing or tossing of water bottles at any time is forbidden.

Technical Assistance
1. Technical assistance during a race is permitted subject to the conditions below.
2. Authorized technical assistance during a race consists of repairs to or the replacement of any part of
the bicycle other than the frame.
3. Complete bike changes are not permitted, and the rider must cross the finishing line with the same
handlebar number board that they had at the start.
4. Technical assistance shall only be given in the feed/technical assistance zones.
5. Spare equipment and tools for repairs must be kept in the zones. Repairs and equipment changes can
be carried out by the rider himself or with the help of a team-mate, team mechanic, neutral technical
assistance or any other person within the zones.
6. Only within the feed/technical assistance zone itself, a rider may turn back but may not obstruct other
competitors in doing so.
7. The spraying of water on riders or bicycles by feeders, mechanics or any support crew is forbidden.
Open cycling water bottles may be handed to the rider and the rider may pour the water on
themselves or the bicycles, ONLY if, the Chief Commissaire has given permission before or during the
event.

15. CROSSING OF RACE LINE
➢ Only permitted at demarcated crossing points, under the instruction of the marshal on duty.
➢ Crossing of the race line, outside of these specific crossing points is NOT allowed – failure
to adhere to this very serious safety protocol, will result in immediate disqualification of the
rider.
➢ EXTRA CARE must be taken when crossing the race line, outside of the Race Village.
➢ Keep off the race line at all times.

16. TEAM GAZEBOS


➢ Allowed – see map for Gazebo setup area. Setup up and take down at any time.
➢ Team / School gazebos can be setup in the Tech / Feed zone on a first come, first served
basis and space must be pre-booked by email to paola.damilano@me.com.
➢ Gazebos in the Tech / Feed zone must be setup by 07.00 on Saturday the 11th of June and
can only be taken down at the end of the last race for the day around 16:30.
➢ Gazebos in the Tech / Feed zone are in a neutral zone and can be used by any person in
the area. Only one assistant per rider allowed in the Tech / Feed zone and only while the
rider is racing ie. Team members cannot “chillout” in this gazebo.

17. HELMETS & KIT


➢ Helmets are compulsory – NO HELMET…..NO RIDE
➢ No sleeveless tops allowed.
➢ Cleats or flats – we recommend flats for young children.
➢ Any cycling kit can be worn – club or school kits are not compulsory.
➢ Schools are welcome to ride in either a cycling kit or sports kit.

18. TIMING & RACE BOARDS


➢ Timing provided by Spectrum Sports
➢ All race boards must be returned at the end of the rider’s race.
➢ XCO Provincial - Bespoke race boards will be provided for this event.
➢ XCO Lite – Spectrum Sports will provide white boards with race numbers.
➢ Boards cannot be bent or cut and must be returned in their original condition.
➢ Damaged boards or failure to return a board will be charged at R200 per board to the rider.
➢ Results will be posted on the GC XCO Communication Telegram group.

19. RACE BRIEFING
➢ Rider race briefing and Start Lists will be posted on the GC XCO Communication Telegram
group, on Friday the 10th of June by 17:00.
➢ Seeding will be based off the GC XCO Provincial Logs for 2022 as well as UCI ranking.

20. BIKE WASH


➢ Ecologic - official bike wash for the GC XCO Series, will setup a self-wash bike wash area.
➢ All equipment and soap will be supplied by Ecologic.
➢ Trained staff will guide riders on “how to correctly wash you bike” to prevent damage and
assist in conserving the integrity of all the bike’s parts.

21. 32Gi
➢ Will provide 32Gi post race drinks to both the Provincial and Lite races and will be
stationed at the Finish line.

23. AWARDS CEREMONY


➢ Top 3 per category will be awarded medals in both the XCO Provincial and XCO Lite
events.
➢ Top 3 per Category will be held directly after they complete their race.
➢ Riders must wear masks on the podium.
➢ Podium etiquette as per Cycling SA rules must be observed:
Podium Protocol
30.6.1. Unless otherwise stated, riders shall appear at official ceremonies wearing competition clothing,
caps may be worn, sunglasses may be on the rider’s head but not the face of the rider, until they leave
the official ceremony area.
30.6.2. Bicycles cannot be taken onto the podium. However, an area is provided in front of the podium
to display the bicycle of the winner during the official ceremony.

24. PARKING
➢ Secure parking is available inside Monte de Dios, within very close proximity to the race
village and technical zone. Kindly adhere to instructions from the security personnel.

27. INDIVIDUAL / CLUB / TEAMS LOGS


➢ Riders will earn points based on their individual performance (see table below).
➢ These points will be noted on the Individual Provincial Log for the XCO Provincial as well
as the a Club Log for both the XCO Lite and XCO Provincial.
➢ Club Logs are specific to the GC XCO Series.
➢ At registration, all riders must confirm which Club or School they riding for.
