Neelakanta Ramakrishna Madhava Menon (4 May 1935 – 8 May 2019) was an Indian
civil servant, lawyer and legal educator, considered by many as the father of modern legal
education in India. He is the founder of National Law Universities system and first director of
the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the National Judicial
Academy, Bhopal and the founder-vice-chancellor of the West Bengal National University of
Juridical Sciences (NUJS). He has also served as Chairman of Indian Statistical Institute from
2002 to 2003.
Menon was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003and Padma Bhushan in 2020 by the Government
of India.
He was a member of the Law Commission of India and also member of several expert
Committees including on Legal Aid (1973), Civil Services Examination Reform (2000-2001),
and Criminal Justice Reform (2002-2003), Police Act Drafting Committee (2005-2006) and
the Committee on Draft National Policy on Criminal Justice (2006-2007) and Committee on
Restructuring of Higher Education in India appointed by the Government of India. He was
a Central Secretariat Service officer.

occur in performance. The way he mentioned with regret his failure to fulfill the expectation
of his heavily married life and the trauma and suffered all by hence of and how he tried to
correct it later. But the most moving part was the love of her mother. A portion when he was
moving to Delhi and his mother along with sister came to drop him at railway station and a
desperate mother was asking all co-passenger to take care of her non maker to reader
emotional .this chapter along with his personal life relation also mention his rise in the low
teaching in a academic. From Aligarh National University to head of campus Law centre of
Delhi University, it showed his remarkable success.
Although the book in thrilling and fulfilling but the narration in so lucid that sometime the
reader remain thrifty- there were many bupropion which headed more narration an it would
have gave more depth and substance to the book.
Above all, this book is a must read not only for law student but people from all walker of life,
from the struggle of the formally after death of father to being called the living legend of law
the life of prof. Menon has been a remarkable sort of journey this book touches upon both his
struggle and legacy, his intellect and morality. Simply this book impair everyone to dream
higher and work continuously despite all odd to fulfill it.
