DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ELECTRONICS

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the learners will be able to:

a. familiarize the tools needed to solder and de- solder electronic components;
b. demonstrate the soldering and de-soldering process; and
c. value the safety rules in soldering and de-soldering process.

II. LEARNING CONTENT

TOPIC : Soldering and De-soldering process

Laptop, Projector, Soldering Iron, De-soldering tool

MATERIALS :
Sample PCB, Safety Glasses, Solder sucker, Diagonal Cutters, Needle
Nose pliers, Solder, Solder Wick, Damp Sponge

VALUES
INTEGRATION : Awareness about the soldering and de-soldering process.

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

Classroom routine

“Good morning class” “Good morning sir”

Let us pray first (One will be called to lead the prayer)
(Checking of attendance) Class Monitor will report who’s absent for
today
“So... how’s your day?”
(well it’s good to know) “It was great sir”

Ok... now let’s have some activity first. Ready?

“Yes Sir”

Motivation – (Situational Analysis)

Show a PCB board to your students & asked them what will they do if they found out that
there is a faulty component & how will they remove the faulty component without damaging the
board.
PRESENTATION

“Okay, now since you already have an idea

about this, Who can guess our topic today?” “Sir... Our topic is all about Soldering and De-
soldering process”
“Okay... thank you please take your seat

“Our topic today is all about Soldering and De-

soldering process”

“Any idea about Soldering?”

“Okay thank you please take your seat”

“Sir... Soldering is a process of joining two
(Student’s who will participate in our metallic surfaces to make an electrical contact
discussion will be given extra points for by melting solder across them...”
recitation) okay?
“Yes... Sir”
DISCUSSION

Now, since you already know what soldering

is, let me show you some tools and materials
needed in soldering. “Yes Sir”
(PowerPoint Presentation)

“Okay, now what is the most important tool in

soldering?”
“Sir... Soldering iron”
“Okay, that’s correct”

Soldering iron is the most important tool in

soldering and even in de-soldering. Actually
there are some types of soldering iron “Okay...Sir”
depending on the wattage, but the most
common is the (Pen-type) soldering iron with
25-30 watts.

Okay now the question is how can we join two

metals together? What other tools and
materials should we use?
“Sir... Solder or Soldering Lead”
“That’s correct, please read”
(PowerPoint Presentation)
(One student will read the slide)
“Okay, please take your seat”

“Now, let us now tackle the process on how to

solder a component”
(PowerPoint Presentation)
(Student’s will randomly called to read)
“Okay, now i want you to look at the picture
that shows a good solder joint, Now i want you
to describe the joints. “Sir... the joints are “Smooth’
“Bright”
“Shiny”
“Clean”
“Concave fillet”

“Okay very good, That’s all the characteristics

of a good solder joint, Now i want you to
Describe and Differentiate the Good solder
joint from a bad solder joint.”
“Anyone?” “Sir... “Too much solder”
“Too little solder”
“Cold Solder joint”
“Not Soldered”
“Solder bridge”
“Okay... now since you already have an idea “Lifted trace”
on soldering and its characteristics, how about
if you mistaken to solder a component what
will you do?”

“Sir... remove the soldered component”

“That’s correct but what proper tool should we
use?” “Sir... Solder sucker or De-soldering pump”

“Okay that’s correct (Student’s will randomly called to read)

(PowerPoint presentation)

“But if we don’t have a soldering pump we can (Student’s will randomly called to read)
use solder wick”
(PowerPoint presentation)

“Okay?” “Yes Sir”

“Okay now before we start to solder and de-

solder a component there are some safety
precautions that we should keep in mind to
avoid any untoward incidents” (Student’s will randomly called to read)
(PowerPoint presentation)

ANALYSIS

“Okay close your notes; Let’s see whether you

remember the things we have discussed.”
“Who can give me those tools use in soldering” “Sir... Safety glasses, Solder Sucker, Soldering
tools, Diagonal cutter, needle nose plier,
soldering lead, solder wick, damp sponge,
soldering iron”
“Okay... very good...

GENERALIZATION

“To wrap it up what are the things you learned

from our discussion? “Sir, we learned a lot specifically on how to
solder and de solder a component”

“What else?” “Sir... that there are some Precautionary

measures in soldering and de-soldering”

“Okay, keep this in your mind that before you “ Yes sir”
start, you should familiarize first the tools you
will use” okay?”

IV. EVALUATION

Please prepare a ¼ piece of paper and answer what characteristic of soldering technique is shown..

1. (Slide 1-5)
2. Give at least 5 safety rules in soldering and de-soldering process.

ACTIVITY

SOLDERING AND DESOLDERING A COMPONENT

1. Make Solder Connection from a Universal PCB board.

2. Follow Soldering Procedure Properly.
3. After Soldering some components bring it to your instructor for checking.
4. After Checking,
5. De-solder the components and again bring it to your instructor for final checking.
