Using the Note-Taking Framework
In this activity, the pupils will be given a strip of paper that Group 1: BEFORE
enumerates the precautionary measures before, during and after Strips #: 1, 4, 7, 11 & 12

Strip # 1: Let you and your family talk about emergency

preparedness plan during earthquake. Such plan should include
where to go or hide when an earthquake happens.

Strip # 2: Check for dangerous materials. For example, damaged

electrical wiring may cause fire and death.

Strip # 3: Stay away from stoves and heavy appliances. The

tremor may cause gas leak that might result fire. Heavy pieces of
furniture or equipment might fall and hit you.

Strip # 4: Practice earthquake drills, or exercises on what to do

when earthquake strikes your place. Do it at home and at school.

Strip # 5: If you are at the beach or seashore, move to a higher

place. Giant sea waves may develop and flood the area and wash
away everything back to the sea.

Strip # 6: Clean the areas where harmful chemicals may have

been spilled when shaken because of the earthquake, this may
endanger your life when mixed with the food that you eat.

Strip # 7: Help your parents fix your house. Hanging objects

should be fixed well enough to prevent them from falling when
earthquake strike.

Strip # 8: If you are indoor during an earthquake, drop down to the

floor. Take cover under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture
that can protect you from falling objects.

Strip # 9: Check for injuries. Ask for help from the persons or
agencies in your emergency list if you or someone in your family is
injured.

Strip # 10: Listen to the news about tsunami warnings, especially if

your family lives near the seashore. Go to a higher place if
needed.

Strip # 11: Be ready with your emergency supply kit at home, which
includes first-aid materials, nonperishable food, medicines, bottled water,
flashlights and batteries. This kit must be easily found by family
member.

Strip # 12: Have an emergency list of persons or agency and their

contact numbers that you can call during emergencies. You can
ask help from these persons or agencies during emergency cases.
 Strip # 13: If you are outside during an earthquake, go to an open area
away from buildings and electric posts. Stay away from bridges, flyovers,
footbridges, tunnels, and other structures that may collapse.

Strip # 14: Expect aftershocks or minor tremors after the main

shock of an earthquake. These may bring additional damages to
weak structures.

Strip # 15: Stay calm. Do not panic. You will not be able to think
well if you panic during earthquake, just stay alert.
