A. Course Design

Course Title : SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW)


Nominal Duration : 287 Hrs.
Qualification Level : NC I

Course Description:

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of an individual in the field of Shielded
Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Level 1 in accordance with industry standards. It covers Basic, Common and Core
Competencies where a person must achieve to perform Welding Carbon Steel Plates Using SMAW in 1G, 2G and 3G
Positions.

Trainees Entry Requirements

Trainees or students entry into this course should possess the following requirements:

 can communicate both oral and written form;


 physically and mentally fit;
 with good moral character; and
 can perform Basic Mathematical Computations

 Must be a holder of SMAW Welder II


 Must have undergone training on Training Methodology I (TM I)

 Must be a civil service eligible (for government position or appropriate professional license issued by the
Professional Regulatory Commission)
