Child Friendly Containers Small Portions

20 minutes Eating Time

Practice this summer
Try to reduce the
Water bottles number of small
containers used.
- Missing Lids
- Hard to open
-Causes frustration
- Uses up eating time

Child friendly, leak proof.

Water is the beverage of choice at school, no juice please.

Backpacks

Mini Backpacks - so cute! But so impractical, go large not small.

Please select a larger sized backpack to help set your child up for success (for Agenda Book, Art Work,
extra clothes - especially snow clothes in the winter - hats, gloves, extra socks, snow pants etc.)
School Shoes

Indoor Shoes for Gym and Classroom

❏ Non-marking soles
❏ Good, grippy tread on the bottom
❏ Velcro straps- please no laces unless 100% proficient on their own

❏ Independently put on
❏ Left and Right foot markers
❏ Clean and dry, left indoors
Classroom Spaces / Independence
At School: We expect students to unpack/repack their own
backpack.

At Home: Make sure they

recognize their own gear.
Label, label, label
Loveable Labels is a fundraiser for Painters Tape or Masking Tape
the local daycare center.
-use a sharpie to write child’s name
Communication & Routine

Everyday we will need to know how your child is getting

home. Especially if it changes daily.

Distracted Parenting &
Parent Screen Addiction
Social Media IS impacting parents and parent relationships with children. We are seeing impacts at
school. Something to consider and reflect on.

Technology and Children

Setting boundaries on
family screen time
usage can help support
oral language and
communication skills
as well as modelling
appropriate screen time
self regulation skills.
● In the winter the kids will
have a lot of extra gear to
carry that will typically
not fit in their regular
backpack.

● Having an extra labeled

bag, such as a reusable
grocery bag can be an
easy way for them to
carry their extra gear.

● Independence in putting
on and taking off gear is
also important to
practice.

● Label Everything !

Tolerating Big Learned Helplessness
Feelings

The After School Meltdown

Just let them vent. You do not have to “do”
anything to fix the situation. Let Them Struggle!
If we continue to do for them what they
CAN do for themselves they learn to be
helpless. The most important thing to remember is that
it is not your job to RESCUE your child when they CAN’T
accomplish something. If you jump in and rescue, they
automatically understand that you agree with them and that
they really can’t do the task.
