I am writing this to express my interest to take participation in Arqus scholarship while studying Joint

International Master's Program in Sustainable Development. I graduated in Environmental

Engineering from Pakistan’s leading public sector University, University of Engineering and
Technology Lahore, with excellent grades. I have successfully completed final year project on
Sustainability in Built Environment. My thesis was focused on how to enable sustainable practices in
daily life to reduce average energy required by human being and understanding the impact of
professional engineering solutions in environmental contexts and significance of sustainable
development. Since my graduation I have been working as Assistant Manager Environment at
Infrastructure Development Authority, Punjab (IDAP); an autonomous government organization in
Pakistan. While working, I have gained exceptional skills in managing Sustainability and
Environment by working extensively on Environmental Management, Resource Conservation
planning, ISO Standards and Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals. As a subject matter expert, I
have provided support to various industrial and commercial sectors i.e., Leather, Textile, and
construction. So, they can meet their Sustainable Development Goal commitments. I assisted them in
reducing their emissions and bringing the production units to zero chemical discharge. While
working, I realized that we lack innovative and modern techniques for sustainable planning of the
projects. This scenario indicates a technological gap and an opportunity area which I want to learn and
explore.
I am a talented master's student for several compelling reasons. I have exceptional academic
performance, strong work ethic, and innate curiosity set. apart from my peers I have ability to excel in
my coursework and engage in rigorous intellectual pursuits demonstrate my dedication to academic
excellence.
Firstly, my outstanding academic performance speaks volumes about my talent as a potential master's
student. I have produced high-quality work and consistently achieve top grades as proven in my
transcript. My professors and mentors also appreciate my exceptional abilities in studies and
producing quality work and have often praised my insightful contributions to class discussions and
assignments. Their recommendation letters speak for my dedication to studies.
Secondly, I have strong work ethic which I believe is a key factor in my success as a master's student
at Leipzig University. I have different approach to studies as I take studies with discipline, diligence,
and a commitment to learning. My prime focus is on time management, which enable me to balance
my academic responsibilities effectively. Whether it's completing assignments, conducting research,
or preparing for exams, I consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic and a willingness to go the
extra mile.
Additionally, I possess a natural intellectual curiosity that drives me to explore complex topics and
seek out new perspectives. I actively engage in discussions, ask insightful questions, and actively seek
opportunities to expand my knowledge beyond the classroom. My thirst for knowledge inspires those
around I and fosters a vibrant academic environment.
Furthermore, my exceptional communication skills also contribute to my selection as a master's
student. I possess the ability to articulate my ideas effectively, both in written and verbal form. My
written assignments are well-structured, concise, and demonstrate a high level of clarity. Back in my
bachelors when participating in class discussions or presenting my work, I express my thoughts
articulately and engage my audience effectively.
Therefore, my potential skills as a master's student is evident through my exceptional academic
performance, strong work ethic, innate curiosity, critical thinking skills, and excellent communication
abilities.
Choosing the master’s in joint international Master’s Program in Sustainable Development at
Universität Leipzig as entrance university is for several compelling academic and professional
reasons.
I choose this program because its interdisciplinary approach aligns perfectly with my academic
interests and career goals. As someone passionate about sustainable development, I recognize that
addressing complex global challenges requires a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective. The
program's curriculum integrates knowledge from various fields, including environmental sciences,
social sciences, economics, and governance. This interdisciplinary approach will allow me to gain a
comprehensive understanding of sustainable development and develop the skills necessary to tackle
real-world sustainability issues effectively.
Also, this program's focus on sustainable development resonates deeply with my personal values and
aspirations. I am committed to making a positive impact on the environment and society, and I believe
that sustainable development is the key to achieving this goal. The program's emphasis on finding
sustainable solutions, promoting social equity, and preserving ecological integrity aligns perfectly
with my aspirations.
Moreover, the international aspect of the program also greatly appealed to me. The opportunity to
study alongside students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds is invaluable. It allows for a
rich exchange of ideas, perspectives, and experiences, fostering a global learning environment. This
international exposure not only enhances your understanding of sustainable development on a global
scale but also prepares me for a career in an increasingly interconnected world. Another reason for
choosing university is that it stands in top 500 universities in QS world ranking.
Additionally, the program's strong emphasis on practical experience and fieldwork was a significant
factor in my decision. I believe that hands-on experience is crucial for translating theoretical
knowledge into real-world solutions. The program offers numerous opportunities for field research,
internships, and collaborative projects with organizations and communities working towards
sustainable development. These practical experiences will not only deepen my understanding of the
challenges and complexities of sustainable development but also equip me with the skills necessary to
address them effectively.
Furthermore, the program's strong network of alumni and industry connections provides me with
valuable networking opportunities and potential career prospects. Universität Leipzig has a reputation
for producing graduates who are highly sought after by employers in the sustainability sector. The
program's alumni network is extensive and spans across various countries and sectors, offering a

Choosing the compulsory mobility university is a difficult task for me considering my engineering
background and my future aspirations described earlier. After repeated brainstorming and aligning my
future professional goals with university mobility semester module I choose University Graz. The
program's excellent reputation, focus on applied sustainability, the university's strong industry
connections, and the opportunities for practical experience were key factors in my decision.
Firstly, the program's excellent reputation as a leading institution in the field of sustainable
development greatly appealed to you. The University of Graz has a long-standing tradition of
academic excellence and is well-regarded for its research contributions in sustainability-related
disciplines in very short span of time. The program's faculty members are renowned experts in their
respective fields, and the university has established collaborations with prestigious international
partners. By studying at the University of Graz, I will have access to top-notch education and a wealth
of resources that will enrich my academic experience and professional development.
Moreover, the program's focus on applied sustainability is significant. I recognize that solving
complex sustainability challenges requires not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills.
The program at the University of Graz emphasizes the application of sustainable development
principles in real-world contexts. Through case studies, fieldwork, and collaborative projects, I will
have the opportunity to tackle actual sustainability issues and develop innovative solutions. This
emphasis on applied sustainability aligns perfectly with my career aspirations and provides me with
the practical expertise needed to make a meaningful impact in the field.
Specialisation track (2nd semester, mandatory mobility) at University of Graz pays attention to the
theoretical background, appropriate research methodology, and intervention methods of a specialised
field within the framework of sustainable development. I specialise in Environmental Engineering as
my academic background. So, considering all above factors the decisive factor in choosing mobility
semester at University of Graz is it familiarize me with natural sciences and economics and their
relevance with Sustainability. Therefore, corporate Sustainability Management is my target study area
while my stay at university of Graz in my master’s program.
At last, coming towards what my role would be as while being Arqus awardee. I believe my role
would involve being a representative and advocate for the Arqus Alliance, promoting its values,
initiatives, and opportunities within my university and the wider community. My responsibilities as an
ambassador would vary depending on the specific goals and activities of the Arqus Alliance assigned
to me, but here are some potential aspects of my role of what I think:
One of my primary tasks would be to effectively communicate and promote the Arqus Alliance and its
activities to students, faculty, and staff at my university. This could involve organizing information
sessions, workshops, and presentations to raise awareness about the Alliance's objectives, projects,
and opportunities available to students, such as mobility programs, joint courses, and research
collaborations.
As an Ambassador, I think I can play a vital role in supporting fellow students who are interested in
participating in Arqus scholarship, provide guidance and assistance to students who wish to apply for,
internships, or research opportunities within or outside the Alliance. Share my own experiences and
insights to help them navigate the application process, understand the benefits, and make the most of
their time abroad. Serve as a mentor and resource for students, offering advice and support throughout
their journey.
Also, I think I can Act as a liaison between my university and the Arqus Alliance, providing feedback,
suggestions, and reporting on the activities and experiences of my institution's students and staff
within the alliance. Share insights on what works well and areas for improvement to enhance the
collaboration and exchange programs in future.
