tractor producer, second-largest bus manufacturer, and third-largest heavy truck manufacturer
in the world. India’s annual production of automobiles in FY22 was 22.93 million vehicles.
India has a strong market in terms of domestic demand and exports. In FY23, total passenger
vehicle sales reached 3.89 million.

In FY23, total automobile exports from India stood at 47, 61,487. This sector's share
of the national GDP increased from 2.77% in 1992-1993 to around 7.1% presently. It
employs about 19 million people directly and indirectly. India is also a prominent auto
exporter and has strong export growth expectations for the near future. In addition, several
initiatives by the Government of India such as the Automotive Mission Plan 2026, scrap page
policy, and production-linked incentive scheme in the Indian market are expected to make
India one of the global leaders in the two-wheeler and four-wheeler market by 2022.

CHAPTER – I

1. ABOUT INTERSHIP TRAINING

An internship is on – the - job training for many professional jobs, similar to an

apprenticeship, more often taken up by college and university students during his under
graduate or master degree in their free time to supplement their formal education and expose
them to the world of work. Internships offer various occasion to interns during internship
programs to expand familiarity in their choose area of work , to find out what they have an
importance in an exacting in specific line of business, develop professional network links,
build interpersonal skill or get some credit points if it’s a “course” they are in.

Employers too benefit from an internship arrangement as it gives access to interns

with some skills to execute relevant tasks for the employer. Many interns end up with
permanent service with the same organisation in which they are interned. Their worth to the
organisation may be greater than before by the fact that they require modest or less training.

The Internship and Practicum Program is a variable credit program that provides
second year students the opportunity to participate in a course designed to integrate
traditional classroom learning with academically related, real world, practical work
experience. The purpose of the Internship Program is to afford specific and necessary
learning that is not accessible to students in the traditional classroom setting. Students
choosing to enrol in an internship course are expected to develop quality studies, research
outcomes or projects that provide appropriate field-based work experiences related to their
academic programs. This experience is expected to focus on active learning. In addition, the
internship should clearly complement and add to learning from previous courses and
expected learning identified in the students approved academic program of study from
manufacturing industry.

1.1.2 PRODUCTS

Chain Coupling: Constructed of two-strand chains and two sprockets. Can be connected and
separated without moving the equipment by winding the chains over and removing them
from the sprockets.

Body Construction: The body consists of two dedicated sprockets with hardened teeth and
two-strand roller chains.

Nylon Gear Couplings

Nylon couplings are compact and require no lubrication. They operate over a wide
temperature range at speeds up to 5000 RPM and are effectively used in applications such as
Motor/ Generator sets, pump sets and many lights to medium duty industrial coupling
applications. No lubrications are ever required, eliminating the need for seals. The resilient
nature of nylon material makes the contact of the hubs and sleeves almost frictionless.

7
Jaw Coupling

Jaw couplings are characterized by small dimensions, low weight and low mass
moments of inertia yet transmit high torques. Running quality and service life of the coupling
are improved by accurate all-over machining. Their application is ideal for transmitting
torque while damping torsional vibrations and absorbing shocks produced by the uneven
operation of certain prime movers.

Performance

In contrast to other flexible couplings, the intermediate members of which are subject
to bending stress and are therefore prone to earlier wear, the flexible teeth of jaw couplings
are subject to pressure only.

Pin Bush Coupling

The function of a flexible coupling is to transmit torque from one shaft to another and
is particularly use full in cases where limited misalignment may occur and also to absorb
shock loads. Pin Bush Coupling of the cushioned drive type transmits the torque through high
tensile steel bolts to the machine input shaft. Highly developed rubbers components are used
in bushes in absorb loads, tensional vibrations and slight misalignments

8
Shaft-hub-connections

Frictional shaft-hub-connections are standard machine elements used to connect

shafts and hubs. They are capable of transmitting Torque, axial forces, radial forces and
bending moments.

Shrink Discs and Cone Clamping Elements: Among the frictional shaft-hub-connections
Shrink Discs and Cone Clamping Elements take an important position. By tightening
clamping screws conical surfaces are pulled together generating radial forces

Sprocket

Reliability: System Performance depends on proper chain-sprocket interaction, which means

your choice for sprockets can drive your operations success. Make the right and easy choice
with sprockets.

9
Taper bush

The Taper Lock bush, also referred to as a Taper bush or Taper Fit bush, is a locking
mechanism commonly used in Power Transmission Drives for locating pulleys, sprockets,
and couplings to shafts. The Taper Lock bush is pre-bored and keyed to match the required
shaft and keyway diameters.

The outside of the bush is tapered to match the component bore that is to be located
on the shaft. Taper bushes provide a low cost, simple, quick method of securing sprocket,
pulleys and couplings to a wide range of standard metric and imperial dimensioned shafts of
general commercial tolerances and finish.

Torque Limiter

Torque limiter is a protective device that limits torque transmitted in a drive system
by tripping when the torque transmitted exceeds a present value as a result of shack loads,
over loads, or machine jams. It automatically re-engages when the overload torque has
passed, no resetting is required. Torque limiter prevents machine damage and eliminates
costly downtime. The torque limiter utilizes spring loaded friction surfaces for its operations;
slip torque is present by adjustment of the spring force.

3. FUNCTIONS OF DEPARTMENT

3.1 PRODUCTION PROCESS

Automotive Industry

The Requirements

Flexibility is a crucial factor in modern automotive production. Today, the same

production line produces different vehicle ranges. Robots are equipped with tool change
systems allowing them to handle various parts while performing several different
manufacturing steps. Minimising retooling times is an essential success factor.

This applies equally to press lines and automated test facilities, for example engine
assembly lines. Applications such as these make the toughest demands on coupling and
docking systems.

3.1.1 Our Solutions

Major automotive manufacturers and suppliers at home and abroad use our multi-
couplings, docking systems and fast-acting ultra slim robot tool changers for car body
production, transfer lines, production lines and test systems. For example, engines mounted

3.1.3 CONTINUOUS WINDING PROCESS

Pipe technology is using the continuous advancing mandrel process which represents
the state of the art in pipe production. Using technology developed by material specialists, a
very compressed laminate is created that maximises the contribution from the three basic raw
materials glass-fibre, resin and sand. A sand fortifier is used to provide increased stiffness by
adding extra thickness, placed near the neutral axis in the core.

COUPLINGS PRODUCTION

The double bell couplings are manufactured on the continuous winding equipment
and under the corresponding strict control procedures as the pipes. The coupling pipe process
is tailor made in order to manufacture the coupling laminate, which is specifically designed to
fit the two grooves for the lip gaskets. The grooves are grinded in a separate operation after
manufacturing of the base coupling pipe. The coupling is cut to the required length during the
grinding operation. Every coupling is pressure tested with water to two times the operation
pressure before the coupling is mounted to the pipe.

TESTING & QUALITY CONTROL

Manufacturing is subjected to extensive tests and quality control routines in order to

secure the performance. Each product has a unique manufacturing specification which is
audited regularly through manufacturing and pipe samples, which are sent daily to the
laboratory in order to confirm the mechanical properties and material composition from the
specification. Every pipe is measured, marked and pressure tested with water to two time’s
nominal operation pressure in the manufacturing line. The measured QC data is recorded for
traceability of every pipe.

CHAPTER-IV

4. MARKETING DEPARTMENT

"Marketing management is 'the art and science of choosing target markets and getting,
keeping, and growing customers through creating, delivering, and communicating superior
customer value'

The marketing department has overall responsibility for growing revenue, increasing
market share and contributing to company growth and profitability. In a small business, the
marketing department may just be one person, or it may include a marketing director or
manager plus marketing executives responsible for functions such as advertising, publications
or events.

Research

Research is a pillar of all marketing activities. Without demographic research, product

developers don’t know what features to design into products that will appeal to customers.
Publicists won’t know what publications customers read or what industry topics journalists
are covering. Research is used to measure buying habits, product use and opinions of your
business as well as your competitors. The better your research, the less money you will waste
-- for example, by buying ads that won’t reach your customers or making a product that no
one will buy.

Promotions

Marketing departments carry out promotional strategies for products and services, and
some may also incorporate promotional activities, such as public relations, for the business as
a whole. The promotions staffs assists the sales force with sales promotions; offers public
relations support for product launches, trade shows and other events; purchases advertising
that illustrates product benefits and features; and pitches the product to media outlets.
Promotion activities range from creating awareness of a product to persuading customers to
try and then buy the product.

18
4.1.1 Business Development

Marketing works closely with sales in generating new business. Employees entice
prospects to engage with your company in some way, even if it’s just visiting the website,
and then uses incentives to get customers to continue thinking about the product so that the
sales team can convince them to buy the product.

This is called generating leads. Not every lead turns into a paying customer, so
business development is on-going. It can also include identifying new markets for existing
products or discovering a need that current customers have for a modified version of an
existing product.

Strategy

The senior member of the marketing department takes responsibility for setting
marketing strategy in line with overall company strategy and objectives. The strategy may be
to increase share in a specific market sector, for example, to enter a new sector, or to open a
new channel of distribution, such as the Internet, to reach a wider geographical market. The
marketing department reaches agreement on strategy with the board or senior management
team before planning campaigns in detail.

Market Research

Market research is a key responsibility for the marketing department. Research helps
the company identify market opportunities and gain a better understanding of customer
needs. It also helps them understand competitors’ strengths and weaknesses so they can take
action to protect business with existing customers or win business from weaker competitors.

The department can carry out its own research by studying industry reports, market
data on websites, or by contacting customers and prospects to survey their needs and
attitudes. Alternatively, they can brief a market research firm to carry out the research.

19
Product Development

The marketing department works with Internal or external product development teams
to develop new products or improve existing ones. The department analyzes sales of existing
products and identifies gaps in the product range where there may be opportunities for the
company.

Marketing employees provide development teams with information on customer

needs and preferences to help them identify the features or improvements to incorporate in
new products. Later in the product development process, the marketing department sets prices
and prepares plans to launch the product.

Communications

Marketing departments plan campaigns and develop communications material to

promote products and services to customers and prospects. Depending on their available
budgets, they may plan advertising campaigns, develop e-mail marketing programs, create
promotional content for the company website, write press releases or product publications,
such as product leaflets, company brochures, product data sheets or customer newsletters.
They may write and design the promotional material if they have skills within the department
or they may appoint advertising agencies or design firms to produce the work.

Sales Support

Cooperation between the sales and marketing departments can improve sales
performance and speed up business growth. The marketing department can provide sales
teams with high-quality leads by running advertisements that include a reply mechanism,
such as a coupon or telephone number, or by encouraging visitors to the company website to
register their details in return for a free newsletter or special report. Marketing also prepares
presentations for the sales team and supplies them with stocks of promotional material to give
to customers and prospects.

20
Events

In some companies, marketing departments are responsible for organizing events,

such as exhibitions, seminars, sales conferences or customer hospitality events. They plan the
logistics of the event, booking exhibition booths or meeting facilities, for example, and
provide event material, such as displays, presentations or handouts. They also promote
external events to customers and prospects to ensure successful attendance.

4.1.2 THE ROLE OF A MARKETING DEPARTMENT

The Marketing Department plays a vital role in promoting the business and mission of
an organization. It serves as the face of your company, coordinating and producing all
materials representing the business. It Depending on your company, the duties of the
Marketing Department may include one or more of the following:

Defining and managing your brand. This involves defining who you are, what you stand
for, what you say about yourself, what you do and how your company acts. This, in turn,
defines the experience you want your customers and partners to have when they interact with
you.

Conducting campaign management for marketing initiatives Marketing proactively

identifies the products and services to focus on over the course of your sales cycle, and then
produces materials and communications that get the word out.

Producing marketing and promotional materials Your marketing department should

create the materials that describe and promote your core products and/or services, and keep
them up-to-date as those products and services evolve.

Creating content providing search engine optimization for your website your website is
often the first (and possibly the only) place people go for information about you.

Monitoring and managing social media marketing should contribute to, manage and
maintain your social media pages and accounts and carefully watch what’s being posted
about you online.

21
Producing internal communications Your employees need to understand your company, its
values, its goals and its priorities. Marketing is often responsible for employee
communications through a newsletter and/or intranet.

Serving as media liaison When your company is cited in the media, a member of the
marketing department often acts as spokesperson for your company, or guides executives in
how to respond to media queries.

Market position

The department can carry out its own research by studying industry reports, market
data on websites, or by contacting customers and prospects to survey their needs and
attitudes. Alternatively, they can brief a market research firm to carry out the research.

The role of strategic marketing management

Marketing management employs tools from economics and competitive strategy to

analyze the industry context in which the firm operates. These include Porter's five forces,
analysis of strategic groups of competitors, value chain analysis and others.

23
In competitor analysis, marketers build detailed profiles of each competitor in the
market, focusing on their relative competitive strengths and weaknesses using SWOT
analysis.

Marketing managers will examine each competitor's cost structure, sources of profits,
resources and competencies, competitive positioning and product differentiation, degree of
vertical integration, historical responses to industry developments, and other factors.
Marketing management often conduct market research and marketing research to perform
marketing analysis. Marketers employ a variety of techniques to conduct market research, but
some of the more common include:

 Qualitative marketing research, such as focus groups and various types of interviews

 Quantitative marketing research, such as statistical surveys

 Experimental techniques such as test markets

 Observational techniques such as ethnographic (on-site) observation

Marketing managers may also design and oversee various environmental scanning and
competitive intelligence processes to help identify trends and inform the company's
marketing analysis.

Two customer segments are often selected as targets because they score highly on two
dimensions:

 The segment is attractive to serve because it is large, growing, makes frequent

purchases, is not price sensitive (i.e. is willing to pay high prices), or other factors;
and

 The company has the resources and capabilities to compete for the segment's
business, can meet their needs better than the competition, and can do so profitably.

 A commonly cited definition of marketing is simply "meeting needs profitably".

24
The implication of selecting target segments is that the business will subsequently
allocate more resources to acquire and retain customers in the target segment(s) than it will
for other, non-targeted customers.

5. HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT

5.1.1 HRM functions

HRM functions are the tasks and duties human resource managers perform and they
constitute the distinctive approach of HRM. The four major functions which are
acknowledged by most of the literatures are HR planning, recruitment and selection, training
and development, performance and rewards.

On the one hand, they reflect the way it volutes from personnel management which
has the similar components, on the other hand, they are integrated to make a full use of
human capital to contribute to the better performance.

The overall movement of qualified employees towards the developed coastal cities in
Eastern China means that HR Managers will generally experience major difficulties in
attracting and retaining talented staff in those less developed and lower-tiered cities in
Central and Western Salem– around 84% of young professionals work.

5.1.2 SELECTION RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING FACILITY

 Recruitment & selection

 Training and Development
 Performance Evaluation and Management

Recruitment

The success of recruiters and employment specialists generally is measured by the

number of positions they fill and the time it takes to fill those positions. Recruiters who work
in-house -- as opposed to companies that provide recruiting and staffing services -- play a key
role in developing the employer's workforce.

They advertise job postings, source candidates, screen applicants, conduct preliminary
interviews and coordinate hiring efforts with managers responsible for making the final
selection of candidates.

Safety

One of the main functions of HR is to support workplace safety training and maintain
federally mandated logs for workplace injury and fatality reporting. In addition, HR safety

CHAPTER-VI

6. FINANCE DEPARTMENT

Financial management may be defined as the area or function in an organization

which is concerned with profitability, expenses, cash and credit, so that the "organization
may have the means to carry out its objective as satisfactorily as possible;" the latter often
defined as maximizing the value of the firm for stockholders. Financial management is
generally concerned with short term working capital management, focusing on current assets
and current liabilities, and managing fluctuations in foreign currency and product cycles,
often through hedging.

6.1 The Role of Financial Managers

Financial managers perform data analysis and advise senior managers on profit-
maximizing ideas. Financial managers are responsible for the financial health of an
organization. They produce financial reports, direct investment activities, and develop
strategies and plans for the long-term financial goals of their organization. Financial
managers typically:

 Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, and forecasts,

 Monitor financial details to ensure that legal requirements are met,

 Supervise employees, who do financial reporting and budgeting,

 Review company financial reports and seek ways to reduce costs,

 Analyze market trends to find opportunities for expansion or for acquiring other

companies,

29
The role of the financial manager, particularly in business, is changing in response to
technological advances that have significantly reduced the amount of time it takes to produce
financial reports.

Let’s define financial management as the first part of the introduction to financial
management. For any business, it is important that the finance it procures is invested in a
manner that the returns from the investment are higher than the cost of finance. In a nutshell,
financial management –

 Endeavours to reduce the cost of finance

 Ensures sufficient availability of funds
 Deals with the planning, organizing, and controlling of financial activities like the
procurement and utilization of funds

Finance is the life blood of an organization. Without finance we can’t do anything.

CHAPTER-VII

7. QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT

In the automotive industry, vehicle quality is crucial to guarantee driver safety,

satisfaction and maintain market growth. As a globally trusted quality control company, we
partner with you to help you reach your quality goals.

The quality control process starts long before the first production models of a vehicle
roll off the assembly line. When a car company releases a new product, they build prototypes,
which are then tested to find weaknesses, mechanical problems and other details that could be
improved.

Once the prototypes have been vetted and polished, the design goes into production,
where quality control continues on the production line, too. After being built, each car is
tested for problems like fluid and air leaks, mechanical problems and proper assembly.

7.1.1 FUNCTIONS OF QUALITY CONTORL DEPARTMENT

 Approve or reject all procedures, specifications, methods, and results.

 Approve or reject all raw materials, packaging materials, labelling and finished
products
 Review all production records for accuracy and completeness before approving for
distribution
 Establish procedures for revising procedures, formulas, etc.
 The basic goal of quality control is to ensure that the products, services, or processes
provided meet specific requirements and are dependable, satisfactory, and fiscally
sound. Essentially, quality control involves the examination of product, services, or
process for certain minimum levels of quality.

34
 The goal of a quality control team is to identify products or services that do not meet a
company’s specified standards of quality.

7.1.2 Quality Control Techniques

Quality control is something that's a key part of almost every industry and every job. You
probably engage in your own form of quality control several times a day. If you proofread
your e-mail before you send it, that's a form of quality control.

Even this article is the result of a type of quality control system. The editor who
publishes it onto the HowStuffWorks.com Web site will check the published version for
things like spacing issues, image size and position and broken links.

It's a similar process in auto manufacturing. But you can't put something through quality
control until it's actually built. So, in automobile manufacturing, quality control starts with
the prototype of a car. From there, the prototype is put through its paces.

OBJECTIVES:

1. The basic objectives of quality control are to maintain quality standards in order to

ensure customer satisfaction and to reduce the costs associated with the scrapping of

defective goods.

2. Quality of conformance related to the extent to which the goods that are produced

conform to the condition laid down.

3. This aspect of quality concerns steadiness of the product.

4. There is a trade-off between the costs associated with the maintenance of quality and the

cost resulting from failures.

5. Quality control involves the use of resources in the inspection process.

35
6. To this has to be added the costs of prevention (special investigation in to failure,

personnel training, and maintenance)

7. Which have to be balanced against the cost of failure (scrap, reworking, sorting rejects,

loss of sales, after-sales service, serving complaints, and additional operations).

8. However, quality control costs can be reduced by the inspection of variables in the

production process.

 Skilled and technically trained employees are induced with high remuneration by
other competitor concern.

8.2 GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES

 The Government aims to develop India as a global manufacturing centre and a

Research and Development (R&D) hub.
 Under NATRiP, the Government of India is planning to set up R&D centres at a total
cost of US$ 388.5 million to enable the industry to be on par with global standards
 The automobile industry is supported by various factors such as availability of skilled
labour at low cost, robust R&D centres, and low-cost steel production.
 The industry also provides great opportunities for investment and direct and indirect
employment to skilled and unskilled labour.
 The automotive industry is spread worldwide. Although the first automobile was
manufactured in Germany, currently, several countries manufacture automobiles. In
contrast, many countries are famous for producing the key components needed to
manufacture an automobile.

 Furthermore, the market enjoys a major advantage: it is indispensable. Even if the

alternatives to individual mobility are constantly multiplying, the global automobile
market is a structuring market and necessarily sustainable, at least to a certain extent.
 The first concerns the development of environmental awareness and the limitation of
waste. This represents both a threat to the market and a real opportunity.
 Indeed, the global automotive market has been saturated in terms of thermal vehicles
for several decades now, but the rise of electric vehicles is revitalising this global
market. The electric vehicle segment is growing exponentially.

8.3 CONCLUSION

In review this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience. I have been
able to meet with so many people that I am sure will be able to help me with opportunities in
the future.

One main thing that I have learned through this internship is time management skills
as well as self-motivation. When I first started I did not think that I was going to be able to
make myself sit in an office for eight hours a day, five days a week. Once I realized what I
had to do I organized my day and work so that I was not overlapping or wasting my hours. I
learned that I needed to be organized and have questions ready for when it was the correct
time to get feedback. From this internship and time management I had to learn how to
motivate myself through being in the office for so many hours. I came up with various
proposals and ideas that the company is still looking into using.

I am going to continue to work for AV Engineering Works although I am still keeping

my options open for new opportunities. I enjoy this line of work, but I am not sure if there is
enough room to grow through this company. I will continue to work hard in my position and
hope to continue to learn about the industry and meet new people.
