A Preview of Coming Attractions

In recent days we have encouraged our people to view the wonderful Christian film, Courageous. I trust that you will not only see it but encourage others, as well. You will be entertained and challenged. We have all seen trailers, which promote upcoming movies. We have heard for years the term, preview of coming attractions. Only three time periods exist for any person or nation the past, the present, and the future. We know the past, but on the whole, we do not know the future. The Bible from beginning to end is a great unfolding of the future, and the Holy Spirit has come to show us things to come (John 16:13). God said that He Declares the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). He not only plans the future for His children, but He continues to use the present as well as the past to mold us into His image. We are to look for Him in His coming (Philippians 3:20), live for Him (2 Peter 3:11, 14), and labor for Him (Luke 19:12, 13). I believe that Jesus could come for His Church at any moment. This is not some wild-eyed street preaching of a guy holding a sign, The end is near. When I finish my Ten Commandments series, I will begin a new study The Truth About the End Times, dealing with the major prophetic themes for about thirteen weeks. I am excited that our coming Lord will attract us magnetically to Himself in the Rapture. During a TV discussion on a British forum, the question was asked, What sort of a world will we have by the year 2000? With only one exception, every scientist basically stated that the world would not be here. But, of course, that year has come and gone. A 13-year-old Iowa girl polled 370 of her middle school student friends, and 75% of them said that they will die in nuclear war during the next ten years. But Christians dare not live in pessimism or fear but faith and hope. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22:20). There are other exciting events about to unfold in the life of First Baptist Church, should the Lord tarry. Big events are on the horizon, such as our community ministry of Car Care on October 22. We go back to two Sunday morning worship services on October 23, with accompanying Bible & Life Group changes. This is a great time to try new classes or even new worship times and make new friends. We will also be offering our alternative to Halloween with Trunk & Treat on October 31 for all of our children. Naturally, our music and drama teams are hard at work getting ready for the Living Christmas Trees, which will once again be presented December 2, 4, and December 8, 9, 10, & 11. We will be adding a matinee service on Saturday for the first time. Our beloved Senior Associate Pastor, Forrest Head, will marry Charlene on October 21 in her home church in Tallahassee. Pray for them and the blending of two families. We will love her just as we loved precious Karen.

Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the Saturday night and Sunday morning service. Come and meet Pastor Hayes.

Between a Rock and a Grace Place

Carol Kents life was turned upside-down when her only child, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, was arrested for murder. Life hands most of us unexpected challenges that mean life as we once thought it would be, turns out differently from the normal life we anticipated. The evening will be filled with encouraging reminders that in every difficult experience we encounter, if we are looking for Divine Surprises, well find them. When we embrace those challenges in the tight spots of life, we will discover an adventurous journey that produces unexpected joy, unanticipated favor, a strengthened faith, and a meaningful adventure. Well laugh out loud and wipe a few tears as we discover how to lean into the grace place. Carol will lift your heart to a place of renewed hope and brand new courage. Bring your friends for a never-to-be-forgotten evening of personal and spiritual encouragement.

Featuring: Carol Kent

40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life has begun in Naples. Over 800 babies have been destroyed by surgical abortion and who knows how many more by use of the abortion pill (RU-486). Please join the Prayer Vigil on TuesdaySaturday from 9am-6pm in front of Planned Parenthood (corner of Goodlette and Creech) through November 6 to be a visible witness for the sacredness of life and to end the killing of life at Planned Parenthood. You can sign-up for a time online at www.40daysforlife.com/naples-fl or call 503-0295. We continue to present ourselves in a quiet, prayerful manner...praying for the exploited women, the babies being aborted, and all those involved in the abortion industry. If you would like, bring a lifeaffirming sign that will help demonstrate our dedication for life!

We need your preschoolers hand-me-downs

The preschool ministry needs back-up toddler shorts and shirts in sizes 12 months to 3 years. As your child outgrows his/her elastic-waist shorts and pull-on tops, please bring them to the preschool desk so we have an ample supply for those just-in-case moments!

OCTOBER 2011

stories from the Great Commission

living letters

In Norwich connecting
he residents of Norwich, Conn., smile when they see Shaun Pillay (right) walking down the street. The 26-year-old church planter has made quite an impression on the New England town. Shaun, a native of Durban, South Africa, and his new wife, Deshni, sold most of their earthly possessions and moved to Norwich to plant a church. I was amazed to find out theres only 2 percent evangelical Christians in Norwich, which broke my heart, says Shaun. The Pillays have relied on God as theyve prayed for opportunities to build relationships, proclaim Christ and create a gospel presence among people on the fringes. Homeless, mentally ill, prostitutes, drug dealers and people whove come from far away nations make up the gathering at Cornerstone International Church. Setting up proclamation points around the city, Shaun and members of the church

have led 67 people to faith in Christ so far. First Baptist Church Wake Village in Texarkana, Texas, has partnered with Shaun and Cornerstone International by sending volunteer teams and resources to help with the church plant. The partnership has caused members at First Baptist to be outwardly focused and to ask how they can make the greatest impact for the kingdom, says Scott Neathery, pastor of First Baptist. For me, its been about how we can support those God has called out to do the work. Through Send North America, the North American Mission Board is partnering church planters, like Shaun, with established churches who have a heart for the Great Commission, which benefits the planter and the sending church. To find out how your church can help reach communities throughout North America visit www.namb.net.

Our goal is to inspire, challenge, and equip the body to become Christian leaders within First Baptist Church Naples.

Leadership Institute Candidate Training

Lasting change in our city, county, and state can only come from electing conservative, christian candidates to public office. The Leadership Institute is based in Arlington, VA. Their mission is to elect christian candidates. They work on a national basis with candidates for U.S. Senate and House, state governors, etc. but they also have a grassroots program that works with folks trying to win their first election. There will be a two day seminar held locally to prepare prospective candidates on how to win their first local election campaign. The dates are November 4 & 5 and is $25 to attend (that includes lunch on Saturday). Space is limited. Please call Jim Tindall at 450-5222 to register or for more information.
