I know this by
looking at the first arch, which goes all the way across. In the second angle, the arcs A
and C don’t line up as one arc.
The second angle bisector was constructed incorrectly. The step that was completed
incorrectly was the step where you create on arc across the angle and then use the
intersection points to make marks and use the two arcs intersection point to connect
the vertex (B) to the arcs intersection point (D). The other angle had two different arcs
made from different distances (A and C).
2. Student B has the correct steps in the correct order and A does not. Student A’s step two
is “Draw a line through point C and point G.” Point G doesn’t even exist at this point.
Seeing this and seeing that B has the correct step for step 2 lets me know already that
student B is correct while A is not.
3. This is an inscribed square. I know this because it shows a perpendicular line being
constructed within the circle due to the arcs that have been drawn above and below the
diameter, using points A and B for each of them. It also shows the diameter drawn
completely which is only used in the construction of an inscribed circle.
Step 2
1. To make my angle, I first drew an angle. I labeled the angle with points A, B, and C to
name it angle ABC. I then drew a random arc that cross both lines AC and AB. I then
made points where the arc intersected the lines and labeled those points D and E. I
opened my compass a little and made an arc from point D and then another arc from
point E. I made a point where the two arcs intersected, named F, and used this point to
draw a line going through point A and point F.
If I were to have bisected a line segment, I would have drawn a line and put two points,
A and B on the line. Off the line, I would have made another line, C. I would have then
drawn a circle with B as the midpoint with BC as the radius. I then would have drawn a
circle with A the midpoint with the same radius. Then I would have used where the
circles intersected for points D and E and finally drew a line through them creating
bisector DE.
The similarities between the steps are using the intersecting lines to draw the bisector
line and that they are finding the bisector line. The difference is that in bisecting a line
segment I would have used full circles, but for the angle I only used arcs.
