Reading Enhancement Program of Alternative Learning System Learners Using Peer-
Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS)
Mastering reading is one of the difficulties faced by pupils due to many reasons such
as having illiterate parents at home and absenteeism of learners’ . That is why researchers
had to find another strategy to use hoping to somehow enhance and improve the reading level
of the learners’. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of reading with peers
using the Peer- Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) among our learners of Alternative
The researcher will conduct face to interview with the respondents of Alternative
Learning System of Medina District, Division of Misamis Oriental. Before that, an approval
from the Schools Division Superintendent of Misamis Oriental through the Schools Division
Supervisor will be sought. Aside from the Superintendent and Supervisor, the Principal, and
opportunities to earn rewards and the paired reading which fostered social interaction and
respond, greater focus and time on-task. This qualitative basic research supports quantitative
data about PALS program as an effective model of engagement theory (Fuchs et al. 1999).
