INTRODUCTION
TO ZOOLOGY
What is Zoology?

Zoology is the scientific study of animals, their

behavior, physiology, genetics, and classification.

It's a branch of biology that focuses specifically

on understanding the animal kingdom.

CLASSIFICATION
OF ANIMALS
KINGDOM ANIMALIA

The animal kingdom is classified into several levels.

This kingdom includes multicellular, eukaryotic

organisms that are heterotrophic

(they cannot produce their own food).

Bottlenose dolphins are classified as
mammals despite living in the water.
ANATOMY OF
ANIMALS
BODY SYSTEMS

Animals have various body systems that

allow them to function and survive.

For example, the circulatory system transports

nutrients and oxygen throughout the body.

The circulatory system of a
horse has some similarities in

basic structure to that of a human.

ANIMAL
BEHAVIOR

Animals exhibit both innate (instinctive)

and learned behaviors.

For instance, the peacock's elaborate courtship

dance is an example of innate behavior

Male peacocks open their colorful, iridescent tail

feathers to impress potential mates.

REPRODUCTION
REPRODUCTION METHODS
Animals can reproduce sexually, involving the fusion

of gametes, or asexually, where offspring are produced

without the need for a mate.

ADAPTATIONS IN THE
ANIMAL KINGDOM

Physical Adaptations: Animals develop

physical traits that help them survive in

their specific environments.

The chameleon's ability to change color

and blend with its surroundings is

adaptation for camouflage.
ANIMAL
ECOLOGY
Animals play crucial roles in ecosystems as:

Herbivores (plant eaters)

Carnivores (meat eaters)

Omnivores (eating both plants and animals)

Bees are vital pollinators that
contribute to the reproduction

of flowering plants.
THREATS TO WILDLIFE

ENDANGERED Habitat destruction due to deforestation and urbanization

SPECIES Pollution from human activities

Poaching for valuable body parts like ivory or horns
