2. CPVC PIPES SUSPENDED FROM CEILING

 Ensure CPVC pipes & fittings are of approved make and grade.
 Mark pipe lines as shown in the working drawings, if required.
 Prepare pipe assembly by cutting pipes to the required length and using suitable fittings.
Pipe must be cut as square as possible and burrs; filling etc. caused by cutting must
remove from inside and outside of pipe. Test dry fit of joint, then apply solvent cement
evenly and quickly around the pipe and apply light coat of solvent cement inside of
fitting socket. Insert the pipe into the fitting, rotate the pipe ¼ to ½ turn while inserting to
ensure even distribution of solvent within joint. Properly align the fitting and hold
together for 15 seconds.
 For pipes of 3” and above a coat primer shall be applied prior to application of solvent
cement, if recommended by manufacturer.
 Mark position of supports as per working drawings. Fix the anchor fastener, threaded rod
of required length.
 Assemble piping and install in ceiling using clamps.

WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00

 After allowing joints to cure for 24 hours, carryout pressure testing for 7 Kg/Cm2 OR 1.5
times the working pressure, whichever is higher. In case of any leakages, redo the joints;
allow for curing and carryout the test again.

3. PRESSURE TESTING

 The pipes and fittings to be adequately supported

 Install suitable end connectors/adaptors for connections to test equipment excluding one
at the lowest point and one at the highest point.
 Fix the pressure testing pump (hand pump or motor operated) at the lowest point The
system shall be filled from the lowest end to expel the air inside the pipes
 Allow air entrenched in the system to escape and add make up water. This ensures the air
gaps are eliminated from network. Plug the outlet
 Check the pipe joints for any visual leakages
 If any leakages are found remove the water from the pipelines and rectify the joints
 If no leaks are found allow the water to settle to expel any in trapped air to escape
 Once water level in the pipeline becomes steady, Increase the pressure in network to
1.5times of working pressure. Maintain the pressure for 12 hours
 Check the gauge reading after 12 hours, reduction in reading indicates leakage. Check all
the joints & plugs.
 If there is no significant drop in pressure and there is no leakage observed in joints, the
test is OK. The test can be witnessed by client representative & sign off can be taken for
records.
 After the successful completion of the pressure test remove the test plug and drain out
the water

4. C.I HUBLESS PIPE FOR DRAINAGE

Cutting Procedure:
For cutting Hubless Cast Iron Pipes and Fittings, Cutting Machine is recommended (as shown in
figure below), which saves time and cuts the pipe / fitting perpendicularly with straight edges.
Remove the burrs if any, after cutting.

Jointing Procedure:

The joint assembly consists of a specially designed Elastomeric Sleeve

(EPDM gasket) which fits over the end of the pipe or fitting and is clamped
to the pipe or fitting with Stainless Steel (SS-304) Shielded clamp.

Place the gasket on one end of pipe or fitting & the stainless steel clamp &
shield assembly on the other end of pipe or fitting

Firmly seat the pipe or fitting ends against the integrally melded centre stop
inside the EPDM rubber gasket

Slide the stainless steel shield & clamp assembly over the EPDM rubber
gasket and tighten the bands. For larger diameters couplings which have
four bands, the inner bands should be tightened first and then the outer
bands. In all cases, when tightening bands they should be tightened
…………………… alternately to insure that the coupling shield is dranup uniformly.

Horizontal Pipe Suspended

1. Hubless pipe installed in horizontal position shall be supported at every coupling. The hanger
shall be placed within 450mm of the coupling (See Figure 1). Joints used for connecting
Hubless pipes possess sufficient shear strength to require one hanger per joint. For DN
200mm and above Hubless Pipes, hanger shall be placed on both sides of the coupling when
installing full 3000mm length (See Figure 2).
Quality Management System
DocumentTitle:Method
StatementsForPlumbingWorks

WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00

2. Installations requiring multiple joints within a 1.2 Meter developed length shall be supported
at alternate couplings.
3. Support horizontal pipes & fittings sufficiently to maintain alignment & prevent sagging or
Grade reversal
4. Support terminal ends of all Horizontal runs / Branches and each change of direction or
alignment with an approved hanger
5. P-Traps or closet bends installed should be firmly secured against movement in any direction

Testing & Inspection

A water or hydrostatic test is the most common test used to inspect a completed cast iron
soil pipe installation. This is the recommended test in most plumbing codes. The purpose of the
test is to locate any leaks at the joints and correct these prior to the closing in of the piping or
backfilling of the underground piping. To isolate each floor or section being tested, test plugs are
inserted through test tees in the stacks. All other openings should be plugged or capped with test
plugs or test caps. Prior to the beginning of the test, all bends, changes of direction and ends of
runs should be properly restrained. During the test, thrust forces are exerted at these locations.
Thrust is equal to the hydrostatic pressure multiplied by area. Thrust pressure, if not restrained,
will result in joint movement or separation causing failure of the test.
Prior to testing, cap or plug all openings in the lower section of the section to be tested. Fill the
system to be tested with water at the highest point. As water fills a vertical cylinder or a vertical
pipe it creates hydrostatic pressure. The pressure increases as the height of the water in the
vertical pipe increases.

5. SHAFT VERTICAL PIPE DRAINAGE & WATER SUPPLY
