Ensure CPVC pipes & fittings are of approved make and grade.
Mark pipe lines as shown in the working drawings, if required.
Prepare pipe assembly by cutting pipes to the required length and using suitable fittings.
Pipe must be cut as square as possible and burrs; filling etc. caused by cutting must
remove from inside and outside of pipe. Test dry fit of joint, then apply solvent cement
evenly and quickly around the pipe and apply light coat of solvent cement inside of
fitting socket. Insert the pipe into the fitting, rotate the pipe ¼ to ½ turn while inserting to
ensure even distribution of solvent within joint. Properly align the fitting and hold
together for 15 seconds.
For pipes of 3” and above a coat primer shall be applied prior to application of solvent
cement, if recommended by manufacturer.
Mark position of supports as per working drawings. Fix the anchor fastener, threaded rod
of required length.
Assemble piping and install in ceiling using clamps.

After allowing joints to cure for 24 hours, carryout pressure testing for 7 Kg/Cm2 OR 1.5
times the working pressure, whichever is higher. In case of any leakages, redo the joints;
allow for curing and carryout the test again.
3. PRESSURE TESTING
WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00
Cutting Procedure:
For cutting Hubless Cast Iron Pipes and Fittings, Cutting Machine is recommended (as shown in
figure below), which saves time and cuts the pipe / fitting perpendicularly with straight edges.
Remove the burrs if any, after cutting.
Jointing Procedure:
Place the gasket on one end of pipe or fitting & the stainless steel clamp &
shield assembly on the other end of pipe or fitting
Firmly seat the pipe or fitting ends against the integrally melded centre stop
inside the EPDM rubber gasket
Slide the stainless steel shield & clamp assembly over the EPDM rubber
gasket and tighten the bands. For larger diameters couplings which have
four bands, the inner bands should be tightened first and then the outer
bands. In all cases, when tightening bands they should be tightened
…………………… alternately to insure that the coupling shield is dranup uniformly.

2. Installations requiring multiple joints within a 1.2 Meter developed length shall be supported
at alternate couplings.
3. Support horizontal pipes & fittings sufficiently to maintain alignment & prevent sagging or
Grade reversal
4. Support terminal ends of all Horizontal runs / Branches and each change of direction or
alignment with an approved hanger
5. P-Traps or closet bends installed should be firmly secured against movement in any direction

Mark for brackets at 1.5 m spacing on shaft walls. Fix brackets as per the details shown
on working drawings.
Mark pipe lines as shown in the working drawings, if required.
Clamp pipe assemblies on to the brackets. Make sure the pipes are in line (horizontal
runs) or in plumb (vertical stacks)
Provide branches on the pipe assembly for connections to internal pipe work.
Provide isolation valves on water supply pipes at locations shown on working drawings.
Conduct hydrostatic testing for the water lines for pressure of 9 bar at lowest point pipes
for duration of 4 hours.
Provide identification labels at each floor level.
Terminate soil, waste and vent pipes with vent cowls at specified heights above terrace
level
Terminate water supply risers with automatic air vent with isolating valves as per
drawings
Connect the soil stack(s) to inspection chamber at ground level
Connect the waste stack (s) to the gully trap at ground level. Connect the gully trap to the
inspection chamber
Ensure the collection sump/ tank is clean (free from construction materials),
position the pumps at locations indicated in working drawings.
Provide non return valve at the pump discharge with due care to the flow direction
marked in the valve.
Provide isolation valve and connect delivery line of individual pumps to the
header.
Ensure the pipe works impose no strain at the pump.
If the pumps are not provided with inbuilt float, ensure float switch connected
with panel is installed prior to use.
Ensure proper power connections are made as per the manufacturer’s
recommendation.

Test run the pump, ensure proper setting of float switches for cut-in and cut-off of
sump pumps.
In case of any abnormal sound, shut off the pump and ask manufacturer to attend
the same. Post confirmation of manufacturer, the pump can be put to use.
WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00
Test runs the pumps for short duration. The pump can be put to use if the direction
of rotation of impeller is proper and there is no abnormal vibration or noise is
noticed.
8. COMMISSIONING
WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00
Ensure water seal is maintained in the floor traps and Water closets
Ensure water seal is maintained in the bottle traps and P traps
Ensure the water seal traps are easily replaceable
WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00
All necessary PPE and safety gear shall be worn at all times during the execution of work in full
compliance with safety requirements, i.e. Helmets, Safety Shoes, Hand gloves and Safety signs
etc.
Personal PPE, viz. Safety Shoe, Safety Helmet, Reflector Jacket
Wooden shuttering to be provided for loose soil in deep excavation, if required
9.1 Safety Checks
Safety checks will be made prior to commencement of work in order to ensure that
materials and equipment are in safe working order in accordance with project and site
regulations.
Ensure that all the access means-scaffolding, stepladders are of good quality and strength.
Do not use weak or broken scaffolding or stepladders. Always use hard hats at the
construction premises.
Wear hand gloves whenever working at site.
Wear Goggles of adequate visibility, whenever using gas torches, grinders, cutting
machines, or doing chipping, drilling etc. Do not use goggles with starched glasses or of
poor visibility.
Wear safety belts whenever working at heights exceeding 1.5m
Safety shoes must be worn always.
Wear full body harness when working at heights exceeding 4m and secure to a strong
building or other structure.
WMS:MATLS:01 Rev. 00
Application of paints, primers, thinners varnishes etc. should be carried out at ventilated
places only.
