JOB 1
LAYOUT OF TRANSPORTATION AND
HIGHWAY LAB
It shakes fine aggregate to separate fine aggregate of different sizes according to user requirement . It has holes
ranging from 4 holes per inch to 200 holes per inch . An oscillating motion is used to shake particles down through
sieves
4 ELECTRIC OVEN
It is used to soft bitumen . It's can reach a maximum temperature of 1000 degree centigrade
It is used to demonstrate that how much temperature should give to which grade of bitumen
10-20. 200°C
60-70. 54-55°
8 Penetrometer
Grade. Type
9 Balance
10 Balance
11 DUCTILOMETER
It is used to ductility of bitumen . in ductility test two ends of apparatus is dipped in bitumen and measure it's
elongation before breaking at specific speed and temperature
13 SIEVE SHAKER
It is an analysis machine used to seperate aggregate of different sizes according to user requirment . It has holes
ranging from 3/8 inches to 2.5 inches . Oscillating motion is used to sift particles down through different sieves in a
stack
It is a machine that is used to check the hardness of the aggregate . 12 iron balls are put with sample aggregate as
the machine rotate then balls break the aggregate , soft aggregate break more as compared to hard aggregate
15 ASPHALT MIXER
Asphalt means BITUMEN . Asphalt mixture is used to make a mixture of bitumen and aggregate
it is used to check the frictional properties of the road .If the value of skid resistance is 55 then it is safe for driving .
The value less than 55 is unsafe for driving.
By using this machine engineer can predict how well an asphalt ( bitumen ) mixture will perform and how much load
can it support

(BRICK)
Bond
FLEMISH BOND
Flemish bond a bond used in brickwork that has alternating stretchers and headers in each course, each header
being placed centrally over a stretcher
The Flemish bond is formed by laying headers and stretchers alternately in each course. The headers of each course
are centred on the stretchers of the course below. This bond is strong and often used for walls which are 1.5 or 2
bricks thick .
The alternate headers of each course are centered over the stretchers in the course below
For the breaking of vertical joints in the successive course closers are inserted in alternate course next to the quoin
header
In the walls having old numbers of half bricks bats are essentially used to achieve the bond
Single Flemish
Double Flemish
This bond consists of Flemish bond on the face of the wall and English bond on the back of the wall. Thickness of
wall in this bond is 1.5 brick the flemish bond in front is for aesthetic and English bond is for strength
