THE SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH FOR GRADE 2

I. Objectives:
At the end of 50 minutes lesson, the pupils will be able to:
a. identify and differentiate between synonyms and antonyms;
b. compare words that are the same (synonyms) and opposite (antonyms); and
c. appreciate the importance of synonyms and antonyms by participating in class.

II. Subject Matter:


Topic: Comparing synonyms and antonyms
Skill: Reading
Instructional Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Videos
Value Integration: Collaboration and Cooperation

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Prayer
“Let us bow down our head, and feel the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, as we say in the name of the
father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
(The teacher will present a video song entitled “Lead Me Lord” by Gary Valenciano)

2. Checking of Attendance
“Good morning, Class! How are you today? Before we begin, let me check your attendance first. When I call
your name, mention your favorite color. Is that clear?” (The teacher starts rollcall for the attendance). “Alright!
You are all present today. Give yourself a big round of applause.”
3. Checking of Assignment
“I gave you an assignment last discussion right? I’m really glad that you were able to answer it. Please pass
your assignment by row.”
(The teacher will collects the assignment of the learners)
4. Review
“What was our topic last discussion?
(The teacher will flash pictures on the screen, and ask questions prior to the previous lesson) So, are there
any questions? Have you all understand our previous lesson?

5. Motivation

“Synonyms and Antonyms Scavenger Hunt”
(The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups for the game. Then the teacher will give the mechanics of
the game.)

“All right class, when you collaborate with your group mates, you appreciate the
importance of teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity together”

B. Actual Activities:
1 Presentation of the topic
(The teacher will present some words on the board and ask the learners what they notice about the
words that are posted on the board.)
Answer: Some of the words has the same meaning and some is opposite meaning.
“Okay class, a word that means the same or almost the same are called synonyms while the words that
means the opposite of another word is called antonyms.”
(The teacher will present the topic by a game.)
“Write 3, pass around”
Mechanics:
1. The teacher will divide the class into two groups.
2. Each group will be given a hand out that have some list of words.
3. Students must write down synonyms or antonyms for any 3 of the given words and then pass to some
of their group mates.
2 Unlocking of Difficulties
“Now, I can say that some of you may not be familiar to synonyms and antonyms, so we will play some game
activity to help you understand the synonyms and antonyms.”
(The teacher will raise some flashcards that contains words and let the students give the synonyms or
antonyms of the words.)
3. Guide Question
1. Can someone give synonyms of the word hot?
2. What is the antonyms of the word fast?
3. Give the synonyms and antonyms of the word Good?
4. Reading of Material
(The teacher Will read a short story about the twins Angela and Angelo.)

5. Answering of Guide Questions


“Let us answer few question to see if you understand something out from the story.”
1. What are the characteristics of Angela
2. What are the characteristics of Angelo?
3. Do they have the same characteristics?
4. Can you give words that are similar to each other that came from the short story?
5. Can you give words that are opposite to each other that came from the short story?

6. Lesson Proper
(The teacher presents the lesson objectives through PowerPoint Presentation. The teacher will
also ask student if they have any idea about synonyms and antonyms and the teacher will
explain the topic)
