Dear Selection Consortium,

My name is Laiba Noor and I am writing to you for an ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme
position. I am currently a final year student of BS Materials Science and Engineering at Institute
of Space Technology. Throughout my degree program, I have studied numerous courses
including nuclear materials alongside others which includes STEM courses and did research in
diverse fields of nano and biomaterials. But they were all driven by a fundamental belief that
nano-level research should have a real-life impact. In the face of complex challenges in areas
ranging from healthcare to environmental sustainability, I find immense motivation in the
intersection of nano and bio materials, coupled with advancements in surface engineering mainly
from my final year project on “GRAPHITIC CARBON NITRIDE COATED by CARBON
DOTS AND ITS APLLICATION IN CHEMOTHERAPY”. The ability to engineer materials at
the nano and even atomic level holds tremendous promise for addressing critical issues in diverse
fields. From revolutionizing medical treatments with targeted drug delivery systems to creating
innovative bio-compatible materials for prosthetics, the potential impact is vast.

Additionally, exploring the realm of surface engineering, particularly coatings at the nano level,
introduces a new dimension to material functionality. These advancements not only enhance
material durability but also offer opportunities for applications in various industries. My
conviction is that by delving into the intricate world of nano and bio materials, along with
expertise in surface engineering techniques, we can unlock novel solutions to global challenges,
much like the pivotal role. This synthesis of scientific disciplines is the driving force behind my
aspiration to contribute meaningfully to the field and address real-world problems through
innovative research and applications.

The second is the mobility the program offers and the opportunity to learn from the best in the
field. I want to understand the advancement in materials sciences and its link with one another
domain and how this brings innovation in technology. So that these advancements transcend
traditional boundaries, ushering in a new era where the engineered materials not only meet the
demands of cutting-edge applications but also contribute to sustainable solutions, thereby
shaping the trajectory of global progress in material science and engineering.

With a solid academic background in Materials Engineering, including coursework in

nanotechnology and bio-inspired materials, I have developed a strong foundation in
understanding the properties and applications of various materials. My final year project focuses
on bio nano materials, which has equipped me with valuable research skills and insights into
interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex challenges.

What particularly excites me about the ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme is the opportunity
to engage with leading experts in the field, collaborate on impactful research projects, and gain
hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories. I am particularly drawn to research areas
such as nano materials for energy conservation.

Furthermore, I am confident that my problem-solving abilities, teamwork skills, and passion for
research will enable me to make valuable contributions to the fellowship programme and thrive
in a dynamic research environment. I am passionate about advancing research in Materials
Engineering and am eager to immerse myself in the vibrant scientific community at ICIQ to
further develop my skills and pursue my academic and career goals.

During my internship at the Pakistan Welding Institute, I gained hands-on experience in

advanced welding techniques, honing my skills in metallurgy and fabrication. Additionally, my
time at the National Center for Non-Destructive Testing enhanced my proficiency in quality
assurance and non-destructive testing methodologies.

Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to contribute to the ICIQ Summer
Fellowship Programme and am excited about the opportunity to further my academic and
research pursuits at your esteemed institution. I look forward to the possibility of discussing my
application with you further.

In a society where gender dynamics favor men, I am proud to break barriers as the inaugural
female president of the Institute of Space Technology’s Sports Society. Earning one bronze in
table tennis and consecutive silver medals in badminton for the past three years underscores my
dedication to athletic excellence. Furthermore, my inclusion in the national team for Tchoukball
in 2024 reflects my versatility and commitment to pushing boundaries in the realm of sports

Regards,

Laiba Noor.
