Total:________/24 points
1.) How did she get started with the activity? (3points)
She began by introducing the activity to the students “This is the photo for our next art talk”.
She told the students that they would be using their eyes, there sense of sight and their
thinking to view the image. She remined them that it is quiet when they are noticing so that
they can use their sense of sight best.
2.) What kinds of questions did she ask, how did she follow up? (3 points)
“What do you notice?” “What else can you find?” “What do you see that make you say/think
that?”
3.) What kinds of thinking strategies were practiced by the students? (3 points)
Doing this students are developing there higher-level thinking. The students connect their ideas
to one and another. It also helps the students learn basic communication skills. Builds the
students schema.
Now process what you just saw and discuss the following questions at your table…
4.) How could we connect this activity to the elements and principles? (5 points)
One way to connect this activity to the elements and principles of art could be to ask the
students “What elements/principles of arts do you see in this image?” You can also add follow
up questions such as “How does that effect the piece?” or “How does that make the piece feel
different?”
5.) What kinds of follow up or next step activities could we do after something like this? (5
points)
One follow up that you could do after this activity would be having the image tied into another
lesson that they students are learning. Another follow up would be to give the student the
history of the piece and tell them about the artist to incorporate some art history into the
lesson. A final idea that I have for a next step is just to give the students time to think about
what there classmates said about the image and how they feel about the image after the
discussion.
6.) Elementary Ed. how could this be used cross curricularly? Art Ed. how could this transfer
into a project? (5 points)
If the students are learning about the 11 Tribal Nations of Minnesota in social studies, then
doing a VTS activity on a piece of Native American art can help students build their schema of
Native culture. The students then could use what they know about Native American culture and
art to create their own Native American style are piece.
