to the surrounding air from the steam as it passes through the pipes and other
components are estimated to be about 8 GJ/h. If the waste heat is transferred to the
cooling water at a rate of 145 GJ/h, determine (a) net power output and (b) the
thermal efficiency of this power plant.

Question No.21:
A heat engine operates between two reservoirs at 800 and 20°C. One-half of the
work output of the heat engine is used to drive a Carnot heat pump that removes heat
from the cold surroundings at 2°C and transfers it to a house maintained at 22°C. If
the house is losing heat at a rate of 62,000 kJ/h, determine the minimum rate of heat
supply to the heat engine required to keep the house at 22°C.
Since: Half of the net power of the heat engine delivered to Carnot heat pump then
the net power of the heat engine is 1.1676*2 = 2.3352 kW
