The increased demand for continuing education programs and the need to offer suitable
and modern facilities to meet this requirement led to the construction of UVic’s new facility
for continuing education. This project plan outlines the approach and materials required
to complete construction effectively. The definition of the scope, timeline, budget, risk
management, and human resources are some of its constituent parts. When this project
is finished, the existing physical space constraint will be removed, creating a favorable
atmosphere for UVic’s education to keep expanding and developing.
Construct and establish a new building for Uvic Continuing Education that meets modern
standards and provides an adequate and functional space for the expansion of continuing
education programs, within the established deadline, respecting the assigned budget and
ensuring the satisfaction of key stakeholders.
"Project Scope"
• Project Outcome: The project will result in the construction and establishment of a
new building dedicated to Uvic Continuing Education, equipped with modern
facilities suitable for hosting ever-expanding educational programs.
• Problem Addressed: The current physical space limitation and lack of adequate
facilities have hindered the growth and development of continuing education
programs at Uvic. Completion of the project will resolve this issue by providing an
enabling environment for the expansion and improvement of these programs.
“Deliverables”
• The newly constructed UVic Continuing Education Building will span three stories
and occupy 2,000 square meters overall. It is situated on the university's main
campus. It will feature conference rooms, administrative offices, meeting rooms,
and common areas for staff and students that are all up-to-date and well-equipped.
• Administrative Offices: Ten administrative offices for support and academic
personnel will be housed in the facility, along with common workspaces for
teamwork and project creation.
• Classrooms: 15 classrooms outfitted with state-of-the-art technology will be made
available to support interactive instruction and group projects.
• Conference Rooms: Three conference rooms, each holding fifty people, will be
available in the building. These rooms will be furnished with multimedia resources
and audiovisual equipment for events and presentations.
• Common Areas and Study Spaces: To encourage contact and idea sharing among
participants in continuing education programs, common areas for students, such
as study rooms, breakout spaces, and cafeteria, will be incorporated.
“Constraints”
1. Limited Budget: Due to the project's $5 million fixed budget, effective cost control and
cost avoidance are required at every stage of building construction and equipment.
2. Delivery Time: The project must be finished within the allotted eighteen months
following the commencement of construction. Any delay could affect stakeholders'
satisfaction and the availability of financial resources.
3. room Availability: There isn't much physical room on the UVic campus available for the
new building's construction, which could cause scheduling and logistical problems while
work is underway.
4. Rules and Regulations: The project must abide by all federal, municipal, and state laws
about building, accessibility, structural safety, and land use. Failure to do so may result in
fewer design alternatives and the need for further approvals.
“Exclusions”
1. Adjacent Parking: There won't be any adjacent parking available when the new UVic
Continuing Education facility is constructed. Users on campus are required to park in the
designated spots.
2. outside Recreational Facilities: This project does not include any plans to build outside
recreation facilities, including gardens or sports fields.
3. Enhancements to Current Infrastructure: This project will not include any major
upgrades to the current campus infrastructure, such as the water, power, or
telecommunications systems.
“Acceptance Criteria”
1. Compliance with Specifications: The main building and all other final deliverables
must adhere to the technical and design requirements that were previously
established
2. Regulatory Approval: Before the project is finished, it must receive all the
regulatory permissions from the appropriate state and municipal authorities.
3. Delivery on Schedule: If the project is finished within the predetermined 18-month
window from the beginning of construction, it will be deemed successful.
4. Stakeholder consent: Before the project is finally accepted, formal consent from all
relevant parties, including UVic administration and end users, is needed.
5. Adherent Budget: Without going above the predetermined spending limits, the
project must stay inside the $5 million allocated budget.
Work Breakdown Structure".
The phases of the project work breakdown structure, from initial planning and
architectural design to construction and final delivery, are all well specified. It covers tasks
including requirements analysis, structural design, obtaining materials, managing the
construction process, and overseeing quality. The Civil Engineering team at UVic is
essential to managing construction and guaranteeing that safety and engineering
requirements are fulfilled. To guarantee a successful and satisfied completion of the
project, stakeholders are contacted and kept informed at every stage.
Project Schedule".
The planning and design stage of the project, building construction, building delivery, and
building final acceptance comprise the project timetable, which spans a duration of
eighteen months. Within each phase, distinct responsibilities are allocated together with
deadlines to guarantee a timely and effective project completion.
