Exercise 1
Let g(t) be any periodic function
as illustrated opposite:
If T denotes the period of g(t), then we define the
following constant value G as the effective value
of the quantity g(t):

1 T
g(t) = √ ∫ [(g(t))]2 dt
T 0

With respect to the above mentioned assumptions, write the relation between the peak
value (maximum value) Gm and the effective value G for the two following cases: sinusoidal
signal and triangular signal:

Exercise 2
We consider the following sinusoidal function g(t):

π
g(t) = 100√2 cos (ωt + )

• Give the temporal representation 𝑔̌(𝑡) in the complex plan at:
𝜋 𝜋 𝜋
𝑡 = 0, 𝑡 = ,𝑡 = ,𝑡 =
3𝜔 2𝜔 𝜔

• Give the Non-temporal representation in the complex plan, referred to as 𝐺̅ .

Exercise 3
In a Non-temporal complex plan , give the representation of the following currents and voltages:

a) b) c)

j(t) = 10 √2 cos (ωt − 300 ) j(t) = 10 √2 cos (ωt + 800 ) i(t) = 10 √2 cos(ωt + 300 )

v(t) = 200 √2 cos (ωt + 400 ) v(t) = 200 √2 cos (ωt + 300 ) v(t) = 200 √2 cos (ωt+1200 )

What are the values of the impedance, the resistance and the total reactance for each case?

Exercise 4

Based on the following vectorial diagrams, give:

• The analytical and complex representations of V and J.

• The resistance and the total reactance values for each diagram assuming it corresponds
to a RLC series circuit

V=220V, J=10A

Exercise 5

We consider that the following RLC circuit is supplied by

a sinusoidal voltage:

v(t) = 200 √2 sin (100πt)

R=10Ω, L=0,1H and C=200μF.

1) What is the frequency, the maximum value and the effective value of the voltage.
2) Determine the complex value of the voltage 𝑉̅ and the complex value of the total impedance
𝑍̅𝑡 . Is the circuit inductive or capacitive.
3) Deduce the complex value of the current J̅ , then its instantaneous value.

Exercise 6
Consider the following circuit for which we have:

VAD = 200V

R1 = 8Ω, Lω=10Ω, 1⁄C ω = 10Ω, R 2 = 12Ω.

1) Determine the equivalent complex impedance between

B and C, namely : ̅̅̅̅̅
𝑍𝐵𝐶
2) Deduce the total current 𝐽 ̅ if we take V
̅̅̅̅̅
AD as the phase origin.

VAB + V BC and J̅ = J̅1 + J̅2

Exercise 7

Consider the circuit given below :

1) Determine the total equivalent impedance for f=400 hz.

2) Determine the value and the nature (inductive or capacitive) of the reactance x in
order for the circuit to operate in resonance.

3) Assuming Jc = 0.1A and J̅C the origin of phases, calculate:

• The current J̅B (then JB )
• The total current J̅ (then J)
• The voltage V ̅

4) Repeat question 3) by taking VAB as the origin of phases.

L=50 mH, R=25Ω , C=0.8 μF

Exercise 8

Considering the following circuit , determine for

each section of the circuit that are indicated in the
Table below and for each variant ( value of φ ) the following :

• The impedance of the section

• The effective voltage
• The phase shift φ between the current and the voltage
• The complex voltage
• The instantaneous voltage

We give the effective value of the current I=0.1A, for a frequency of 50 hz, and we have :
