2. Make
3. Flushing Mechanism Used
4. Shape
5. Installation
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO DESIGN
1. SIPHON WASHDOWN 3. SIPHON VORTEX

2. SIPHON JET 4. REVERSE TRAP

TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO DESIGN

SIPHON WASHDOWN

It is the least expensive but

the noisiest; Only small
amount of standing water,
susceptible to fouling,
staining & contamination
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO DESIGN

SIPHON JET
The jet being submerged,
introduces water
underwater so that its
operation is entirely
muffled.

It has a large amount of

standing water to prevent
fouling
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO DESIGN

SIPHON VORTEX
This type of bowl develops
its flushing action through
the water entering the
diagonal holes around the
rim which creates a swirling
action which forms a vortex
in the center.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO DESIGN

REVERSE TRAP
The trap way located at the
rear eliminated the bulge at
the front.

The design of the bowl plus

its large water area &
quietness in operation,
makes it desirable than the
siphon washdown.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO MAKE
1. ONE-PIECE 3. PAIL FLUSH

2. CLOSE COUPLED 4. SQUAT BOWL

TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO MAKE
ONE-PIECE
The water closet fixture is
manufactured with the bowl &
the flush tank molded into a
single unit
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO MAKE
CLOSE COUPLED
A water closet wherein the
flush tank is separate but is
attached to the toilet bowl. It is
a two-piece model.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO MAKE
PAIL FLUSH
comprise only of a bowl
without a flush tank.

Flushing action is obtained

only through water poured
from a pail or bucket.

This is used in areas where

running water system is not
available.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO MAKE
SQUAT BOWL
known as “eastern type” water
closet

the user assumes a squatting

position rather than a sitting
position.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO FLUSHING MECHANISM

1. FLUSH TANK 2. FLUSH VALVE

TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO FLUSHING MECHANISM
FLUSH TANK
Holds a supply of water for flushing
the water closet. It flushes 3 to 6
liters.
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO FLUSHING MECHANISM

FLUSH VALVE
designed to supply a
fixed quantity of water
for flushing purposes.

activated by direct
water pressure without
the use of a flush tank.

requires a flow
pressure of 69 to 138
kPa (10 to 20 psi)
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO SHAPE

1. ROUND FRONT 2. ELONGATED FRONT

TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO SHAPE

Round Front WC is intended for

installation on a limited space.

1. ROUND FRONT
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO SHAPE

more comfortable but occupies a larger space.

Water closet bowls for public use shall be the

2. ELONGATED FRONT
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO SHAPE

Elongated toilet:
oval in shape

about 18.5 “ from the holes for

the seat fasteners to the tip of
the seat(longest dimension)

Round toilet:
circular

about 16.5 “ from the holes for

the seat fasteners to the tip of
the seat(longest dimension)
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO INSTALLATION

1. FREE STANDING/ 2. WALL HUNG OR WALL

FLOOR MOUNTED MOUNTED
TYPES OF WATER CLOSET
AS TO INSTALLATION

a floor-mounted toilet is fully attached to

the floor with the tank exposed
more common in the market
1. FREE STANDING/ easy to install.
FLOOR MOUNTED parts are readily available,
any repairs are simpler to maintain.

adjustable and do not rely on floor

height
accessible for older adults or those
2. WALL HUNG OR WALL with differing abilities.
MOUNTED easier to clean
no base to collect bacteria
