1. Find the distance and displacement of a particle travelling from one point to another, say from pt. A
to B, in a given path.

2. If a particle travels a distance of 5 m in straight line and returns back to the initial point, then find (i)

3. A person in his morning walk moves on a semi- circular track of radius 40 m. Find the distance
travelled and the displacement, when he starts from one end of the track and reaches the other
end.

average velocity of the particle?
6. If a train moves from station A to B with a constant speed v1 =40 km/h and returns back to the
initial point A with a constant speed V2 =30 km/h, then calculate the average speed and average
velocity.
7. If a particle travels with speed v1 during first half time interval and with speed v2 during second half
time interval. Find its average speed during its journey.
8. A car moves with a velocity 2.24 km/h in first minute, with 3.60 km/h in the second minute and
with 5.18 km/h in the third minute. Calculate the average velocity in these three minutes.
9. The position of an object moving along x-axis is given by x = a + bt2 where a = 8.5 m, b = 2.5 m s–2
and t is measured in seconds. What is its velocity at t = 0 s and t = 2.0 s. What is the average
velocity between t = 2.0 s and t = 4.0 s ?
10. The distance travelled by a particle in time t is given by s(t) = 2.5 t2 . Find (a) the average speed of
the particle during time 0 to 5 s? (b) The instantaneous speed at t = 5.0 sec
11. The position of an object moving along x-axis is given by x = 8.0 + 2.0t2 , where x is in meter and t is
in second. Calculate: (i) the velocity at t = 0 and t = 2.0 sec. (ii) average velocity between 2.0 sec and
4.0 sec.
12. The displacement of a particle starting from rest (at t= 0) is given by s = 6t2 - t 3 at what time when
the particle will attain zero velocity again ?

13. (a) If s = 2t3 + 3t2 + 2t + 8 then find time at which acceleration is zero.
(b) Velocity of a particle (starting at t = 0) varies with time as v = 4t. Calculate the displacement of

14. The velocity of a particle is given by v = (2t2 – 4t + 3) m/s where t is time in seconds. Find its
acceleration at t = 2 second.
15. The displacement of a particle along X-axis is given by x = 3 + 8t + 7t2 . Obtain its velocity and
acceleration at t = 2s.
16. The displacement of a particle is represented by the following equation: s = 3t 3 + 7t2 + 5t + 8 Where
s is in metres and t in second. calculate the acceleration of the particle at t = 1s

distance of 200 m. What is the retardation of the car (assumed uniform), and how long does it take

28. A person sitting in the ground floor of a building notices through the window of height 1.5m, a ball
dropped from the roof of the building crosses the window in 0.1 s. What is the velocity of the ball
when it is at the topmost point of the window? (g = 10 m/s2 )
29. A ball is thrown in horizontal direction from a height of 80 m with initial speed v 0. The ball hits the

30. The driver of a bus moving at an speed of 60 km/hr saw a man at a distance of 52 m from the bus.

required to stop the bus .

uniform velocity of 50 ms–1 overtakes and passes the car. calculate the distance through which the
car again overtakes the bus .

33. A block is kept on the floor of an elevator at rest. The elevator starts descending with an
acceleration of 12 m/s2 . Find the displacement of the block during the first 0.2 s after the start.
34.The velocity of a car travelling on a straight road is 36 kmh–1 at an instant of time. Now travelling
with uniform acceleration for 10 s, the velocity becomes exactly double. If the wheel radius of the
car is 25 cm, then which of the following is the closest to the number of revolutions that the wheel
makes during this 10 s?
