t 2. PURPOSE:

I The purpose of the subsoil investigation is to obtairl iniirrtnar-ii.'i.

I related to subsoil condition and to determine engineering properties of rire i"tnder lrii,E
soil strata over which the proposed structure will be built. The soil investigatiotr tt'i li,t

I 4. FIELD INVESTIGATIONS:
o EXECUTION OF BORING:
J 6 numbers of tjelds boring \A'el'c 3\ct-Lli'j.i

I at the site using 4 inch dia casing. The method consists of driving a casing through "i'hicir

a hollow drill rod with a sharp chisel or chopping bit at lower end, which is alternatii el''

r raised and dropped and also rotated. The cutting soil is forced up to the ground, scii

slurry through the annual space between the drill rod and casing. Before ial<ing tlle SI''i
tattr

t and collection of disturbed and undisturbed soil samples the borehole is cleaneci r',itrr
repeated circulation of mud slurry.

I O STANDARD PENETRATION TEST;

I The standard Penetratioi, L('r,

t was performed in all the boreholes. The tests were executed by using a thick r,i'all spi,,
spoon sampler of 1.375-inch internal diameter 2.0-inch outer dia and a 140 lb haruilc,

t falling freely from a constant height of 30 inch on the drill rod. The number:j .rl slorv:
necessary to produce the penetration were recorded in three difterent stages .rl r.'-r,1,

t intervals. The SPT values were taken as the summation of the number ol biori's Icrlr.rir','
in 2'd and 3'd 6 inch of penetration of the sampler. The N vaiues are sltor,r'tl t-ttt tht irc,'.:

t logs against the respective intervals of test. The standard penetration test pror, idc ii iiiti

J O DISTURBED SOIL SAMPLE:

I The disturbed samples wet'e -'.)iliri':

with the help of spilt spoon sampler used during standard penetration test. The --oiiL'ui( |

t samples were classified in situ and preserved in watertight poll'thene bags \\,Lh

I r DEEP FOUNDATION:
Since the formation of soil conditiorts hrotl't i,i

the cohesive and non-cohesive group, the evaluation criteria for the determinatiott oisi'r:
I friction and point bearing capacity of the pile vary. The details of the evalttatioi.t iii--ilir,

t friction and point bearing capacity of pile have been discussed as below:

t a) COHESIVE SOIL:
For cohesive soil, the skin fiictiorr iittcl !rii,.

general formulae.

y = Effective unit weight of soil

t N.,Nq : Bearing capacity factor

D : Depth of foundation.

: Based on the above relations the skin friction and point bearing capacity of col.icsire,,r',,i

for pile foundation should evaluate.

T
b) NON-COHESIVE SOIL:
: For non-cohesive soil of fine siit-td anc srlrt:r

silt mixture, the skin friction and the point bearing capacity of pile have been r'\iiiri.rt-..
