TNRDs statistics for the region, show that recycling is on the rise again. Recycling increased by about 200 tonnes last year, compared to 2010. The total amount of household recycling collected at TNRD sites in 2011 was 2,220 tonnes 563 tonnes of corrugated cardboard, 1,604 tonnes of co-mingled blue bag recycling, & 26 tonnes of container glass. Also, since the adoption of the Solid Waste Management Plan in 2008, theTNRD has seen a drastic reduction in the number of garbage bins hauled from rural transfer stations: from 2,200 bins in 2008 to less than 1,200 bins in 2011. Between the cats & the dogs, by-law officer Bob Davis is in a hard place. Recent media exposure about the 525 feral cats overrunning Merritt, and the more recent rat-poisoning & subsequent death of a dog has given Merritt a black eye said Bylaw Bob. Earlier this week, Bob took the word on the street seriously: hes done his investigation... and found no sign of any rat poison in the dog park. And hes not heard from the person whose dog purportedly died from rat poisoning. So as far as hes concerned, theres no evidence in the incident ,what-so-ever. Nevertheless, hes staying vigilant, aware of the potential danger, investigating anything that might look suspicious. If anyone has any info on the possible baiting of animals with rat poison, or death of a dog by poisoning, Bob would like to talk to you. Call City Hall, 378-2442 & ask for Bylaw Services. Are you a motivated member of the community? Would you like to help out the youth in our community? The Navy League Cadet Corps in Merritt is currently looking for Volunteer Instructors and Officers. You will be trained by Commanding Officers from The Navy League of Canada. The Cadet program incorporates lots of fub, using a Naval theme as a platform to develop patriotism, sense of duty, self-discipline and respect for others. The Navy League Cadets is open to youth between the ages of 9 to 13. There is no association between Navy League Cadets and the military. The Navy League Cadet program receives no government funding. A Talking Horse A jogger running down a country road is startled as a horse yells at him, "Hey! Come over here, buddy!"
