from the Toolbar.
Or
Select the lesson which is to be deleted from the navigation tree and press the Delete key.
Ans-2 : Stages of touch typing
(a) The process begins with memorising the home row of the keyboard. The row that begins with the Caps Lock
key is called Home Row. Looking at the keyboard is strictly forbidden. This is followed by learning the lower
and upper rows, the numbers row, upper-case letters and special symbols.
(b) It involves memorising frequently used syllables and typing words containing these syllables.
(c) It involves typing actual text to perfect the skills acquired.
Ans-3 : Backspace key: It is used to erase anything typed on the left side of the cursor.
Delete key: It is used to erase anything typed on the right side of the cursor.
Ans-4 : (a) Shift key: It is mostly used to type the characters in uppercase or symbols marked on the number keys.
(b) Esc: It is used to exit (or escape) from programs and tasks.
(c) Page Up/Down Keys: They are used to scroll through one page up or one page down respectively.
Ans-5 : The Shift key is used to type capital letters, punctuation marks and other symbols. It is also used in combination with
Function keys or Ctrl keys. The Alt key is used with the Ctrl key and Delete key for special functions like it is used to
open Windows. Ctrl+Alt+Delete opens the Task manager. Alt can be used with F4 (ALT+F4) to Exit from Writer.
Ctrl+F10 will maximise the document window.
Ans-6 : Points To Be Remembered While Using The Keyboard
The following points may be kept in mind for successful keyboarding techniques.
(a) Do not put pressure on the keys and try to press the keys gently .
(b) Always rest your fingers on the Home row while typing.
(c) While typing, release the key immediately after pressing. Holding the pressed key for a long time will repeatedly
type the same character.
(d) Do not look at the keyboard while typing.
(e) While practicing, slowly pronounce the name of the key .
(f) Do not take any mental stress while typing and practising typing ergonomics.
(g) Be patient if you commit a mistake at initial stage.
Maintain a balance between speed and accuracy, as both are equally important. Do not sacrifice accuracy for speed.
Focus on the technique, speed comes.
(Any Four)
Ans-7 : Typing Accuracy: Typing accuracy is defined as the percentage of correct inputs typed out of the total inputs typed.
The following table lists the different formulae for the typing accuracy calculation.
Description Formula
Accuracy in the words, percent Accuracy = (100% – Words with errors * 100%) /
Total number of words
Computers-9 3
Accuracy in the characters, percent Accuracy = (100% – Characters with errors * 100%)
/ Total number of characters
Ans-8 : Holding the mouse : Grip side of the mouse with the thumb and the other side of the mouse with the ring finger.
Rest your index finger on the left click button, and the middle finger on the right click button without clicking. Place
your palm comfortably on the table. By default the mouse is held in the right hand. From the settings, it can be made
suitable for the left hand too.
Ans-9 : At the right hand side of the keyboard, you must have seen a calculator like keypad. This is the numeric keypad. Look
at it carefully. It contains numbers from 0 to 9 and some symbols i.e., addition (+), subtraction (–), multiplication
(*) and division (/) symbols, a decimal point (.), Num Lock and Enter keys. Usually, some laptop’s keyboards do not
have a numeric keypad to save space.

Ans-7 : Typing Ergonomics : Without thinking about the impact on the body, many people use computer for a long time,
or they have a working schedule in which they cannot avoid computer usage for long hours. So it is important to
place wrists, shoulders, hands, computer monitor, etc in a proper way. The logistic support for efficient and effective
typewriting is provided by Typing ergonomics. It is important to attain accuracy and speed. Some of the factors
which affect these are listed below.
Good sitting posture : Good sitting posture means your shoulders are relaxed, your feet are flat on the
(a)
floor, and you can sit up straight to do your work. A supportive chair that helps you keep your normal spinal
curvature.
Your elbows should stay close to your sides. Sit on breathable, padded seat. Your elbows to be bent about 90
degrees and keyboard should be at that height.
Monitor Placement : Keep the upper border of screen at eye level and do not bend your neck while working
(b)
on the monitor. The distance of screen from the user depends on the size of the screen. Keep an approximate
distance of about 60–65 cms for a 17 inches screen. Face the screen with your head slightly tilted forward.
Mouse and keyboard placement : For smooth and effortless operation of keyboard, keep the keyboard and
(c)
mouse together at an approximate distance of 20 cms. The keyboard, mouse and elbows must be at the same
height.
Chair and table placement : Adjust computer chair and table to an optimal height. The chair of the computer
(d)
user must be supportive to his/her lower back. Vibrating devices such as printers, should be on separate tables.
The computer table should also have sufficient space for your legs. With the correct ergonomics, typewriting
becomes a natural phenomenon without causing unnecessary fatigue.
Ans-8 : Middle row on the keyboard is called Home row. In the home row, little, ring, middle and index finger of the left hand
is placed on the key A , S , D , F respectively.
Similarly, little, ring, middle and index finger of the right hand is placed on the key ; , L , K , J , respectively.
The remaining keys ‘G’ and ‘H’ are operated by the forefingers (Index finger) of left and right hand respectively.
