Footnote of Youth

The story tells about youth, love, marriage, and the passage of time. It tells into the problem of youthful dreams, the bittersweet reality of life, love and responsibility.
The story began with Dodong, a young man who wants to marry Teang at the age of 17. He is excited by the thought of being married to Teang because he knew he was a man and ready to become a husband and ready for fatherhood. However, the reality of marriage and parenthood suddenly sets in. Dodong faces a lot of challenges and responsibilities that come with being a husband and father. He is disappointed by the fact that the choices he made, and he regrets everything. Dodong's son, Blas, also faces similar choices as he falls in love with Tona and wants to get married. Before the story ended, Dodong was praying that he still doesn't want his son to get married. And it ends with Dodong's thinking: “As long ago, youth and love did triumph for Dodong... and then life. Dodong looked wistfully at his young son in the moonlight. He felt extremely sad and sorry for him.”. The story also highlights the difference between Dodong's youthful dreams and the harsh realities of life.
